  1. Good morning and good Monday all! Tough weekend, we put Ruben, our beloved Great Dane down (the gray dog in my avatar pic). The tumor on his leg was finally causing too much pain even with uber meds. He gave us 8 1/2 wonderful years. It's tough to lose a member of the family. Life goes on, hope you're all well and have a great week!

  2. You guys are great. It's nice to hear from pet people at times like this because you just understand. It's a special kind of hurt and it does NOT get easier, this is the third dog we've said goodbye to in four years. This is presently our last dog and I think that is making it hit a little harder. I appreciate you sharing your experiences.

  3. So sorry to hear that Dave. Adolph, the dog in my avatar suffered from bone cancer. The weekend before we put him down, I put him in our kids wagon and walked him around several neighborhoods that we'd frequent on our normal walks. That Monday we said goodbye to him at the vets. Actually my wife did, I just couldn't bring myself to go. It was horrible. He was the 4'th dog that my wife and I had said goodbye to and it never gets any easier.

  6. Ugh, that's just brutal. The facebook messages for puppies are already rolling in, but we want to take a while to grieve before we decide to jump in again (or not). With little kids (3&1), it will be nice to focus on them and puppies need a lot of work up front to train.

  8. pets are such close family members. they are always there and always seem to understand what is going on and how you feel. they take our sh*t, and heal our hurts. our first set of rexes (cats) died at 13. DEVASTATING. the male (reggie) chose our daughter (the one in MKP's avatar) as his when she was 6 wks old. he slept with her, called for her when it was time for bed, etc. they were inseparable - like lassie and timmy. she was completely wrecked when we had to put him down - she was 13. reggie's sister (roxanne) cried through the house for a year before she went. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. we have their ashes. we also had a manx cat that wandered into our trash (cat with no tail/little bump) that we had for years - MKP's baby. we have her ashes too. i guess we will all go together. dad was cremated. he and mom wanted to be cremated and buried together. i got a double urn/vault that sits on one of our klipsch speakers. dad is in there, waiting for mom. hope he is patient! they are gorgeous dogs, guys. so sorry for your loss. when you least expect it, and when you are ready.... 7 years later we rescued 2 rexes from a breeder. stoney is white like reggie - and a lover just like he was. boney is black and white like roxanne and is an a**hole just like she was. they are not replaced, just honored. we were lucky to have them.

  9. Hate to hear that about Ruben, but at some point you wouldn't want them to suffer more and you have no choice, but it's never easy.

  11. Morning all! Great news Gary!!!!! We want videos of the performance, but you knew that already. Steve, try to stay out of the hood every chance you can. Mark, we need to see a picture of you drinking tea, holding a cup with your pinkie extended. The bathroom project is winding down. All I have left to do is put up some towel holders and a little dry wall touch up. I'm pretty much at a stand still so After I got the yard done I started working on building a couple amps that I have kits for. There's a thread in the SS section that I where I found out about the kit HERE. The last page has a picture of what I got done this weekend. I didn't have a lot of time to work on it but got a couple things stuck on the boards. We're still drinking 8 O'clock coffee but I got a bag of beans from starbucks this weekend that we'll get into shortly. It's their blond roast. I like it as the beans aren't charred like their normal roasts are. It's really very good. Lighter beans have more caffeine as well. Off to a meeting, will check in later.

  13. Dave, I'm sorry to hear about Ruben, Carl, sorry to hear about Adolph also. A good dog is a friend forever. I've been working at a veterinarian clinic that specializes in large animals, especially horses. I've been there for three weeks repairing wind damage from a few months ago. In the past three weeks I've seen 7-8 horses have to be put down. The extra sad part was last Thursday when they put down a 4 week old horse. Her joints didn't develop because the umbilical cord was twisted. Her mom would nudge her hoof into the young one's hoof trying to wake her. The vet left them together for 12 hours after she passed so mom will realize the young one isn't going to wake up. It was very sad.

  16. you are not the first to say that... we have customers that within 5 minutes of talking with us will love us or hate us. and that's ok. the feelings are usually mutual! admittedly, we are weird. but we like weird. sometimes we go to bed laughing and can't get to sleep. laying in the dark and one will start, and it is all over! he knows i have his back, and i know he has mine. he can always be the good cop, because i will always be the bad cop. if one of the kids wants something - they go to him. especially $$$. he gives more!! we are far from perfect, but our kids know that we are all on the same team! we look at some folks, and they are soooooo uptight. man... life is too short. ...and looking at forum members' equipment lists... WE ARE AMONG THE STRANGE!!!! good to be home

  17. MKP didn't tell you... he will not eat hersheys chocolate. only cadbury, and other english chocolates. his cousin came for a visit some years ago, we gave her a hershey bar and she said "this chocolate tastes like sick" (i.e. vomit) i like hersheys and won't eat cadbury or flakes, etc. wilbur buds are yet another thing.... they are really good... THEY ARE OF SATAN i could tell you that we would bring some to hope, but i fear they would not survive the clutches of the BUD - master

  19. Explaining the NCAA seeding is completely over my head, however I have done many racquetball tournaments where players are seeded. You don't just rate players 1st, 2nd 3rd best etc and let them go where the numbers place them. In the case of our little state, you might have the two players from the same club meet each other in the first round. Despite the seedings, you place them in opposite brackets so if they meet it will only be in the finals. Likewise you don't put someone from out of town who has a two hour drive in the Saturday at 8:00 am game. You give him the noon game and have the locals play the early time slots. Turn the page. My WVU Mountaineers probably earned a #2 seed but they were actually put in as a #3 seed. Did they get a bad deal? Maybe not. They are the #3 seed in the east, so they don't have to travel and be away from their fan base. It's a better deal to be a #3 seed in the east and stay home than a #2 seed in the west and have to travel. Being a 2/3 seed is the least important seed if you're not #1 because 2 plays 3 in the semis. If you get a 4 seed, you have to play #1 and even though you will play the best teams eventually, you don't want to have to fight a couple of #1 seeds and a #2 to win it all. That's tough. I also see a LOT that the committee split up good teams from the same conference. Three conferences this year had 7 teams go dancing, so obviously that is not possible. But there are some good and interesting matchups OUTSIDE the value of the seedings that will have some TV value. In the 2nd round (remember there is a pigtail for 8 teams in the prelim round, or four play-in games to get to the 64 team field). WVU plays Stephen F. Austin 3 vs 14 in the 2nd round in a game that absolutely nobody cares about and has no national TV value. OTOH if seedings hold in the 3rd round you've got seeds #5 and #4 playing, Kentucky vs Indiana! That will be a well watched game with lots of fans and will hold the national interest. +++ I don't know if the committee does it that way, but with all the HUGE money the NCAA makes off this thing, I wouldn't blame them if they did. Follow the money!

  20. The first pour from my pregnant cat: My son likes IPA's but I don't like real Hoppy beer. It's all in a person's taste. Also, Guinness you get at bars isn't usually right. The ratio of CO2 to Nitrogen is supposed to be 75/25. The gas needs to be between 28 and 35 psi, and the temp needs to be just right. I had a Guinness at our country club the other night and I about vomited. Just not the same! Mine reminds me of what I get across the pond. Sam Adams is starting to get on the Nitrogen kick: http://www.samueladams.com/nitro-project

  22. All right, I will try to make this as brief as possible... So, the two night theater concert we do each year brought a fellow and his movie team to do some filming. This was 2 years ago. This man Steve is a real Neil Diamond fan. So, he decided to make a movie based on the long hard road for Diamond tribute artists (singers)... He traveled the world attending shows by many of these Neil Diamond 'impersonators' getting footage for the movie along with interviews etc. That took a YEAR to do. Well, he liked our band so much, he RETURNED this past August to see us again and conclude all the needed footage for the movie. At the end of our second night at the theater, our fans were asking us if we were going to see the movie in Vegas when it is released. Some of my bandmates were going including our leader Kenny and his wife Trish. I decided I could not afford to go and had to decline... That was that.. About three days later, we got a call from the movie producer! Kenny informed us that WE were selected to be the band for ALL the tribute singers in a full fledged concert with the Vegas Gospel choir, a children's chorus and selected guest soloists!! We are talking all expenses paid for all 9 of us ! The producer hand picked the setlist for us, and we have been learning more Neil tunes adding to our already 60 plus roster of songs we play. The setlist came in a spreadsheet format no less with all the production notes for the sound and lighting crew and the schedule of the stage show and how it will be sequenced . As the weeks pass, there has been close communications with the powers that be. We have been sent a 3 page letter from them on how important this show will be and not anything like we have done before. Yes, there will be dancers too! The pressure is mounting! There will be cameras everywhere, as we were told it will be recorded. OK, lastly and still a developing situation... We will have some of Neil Diamond's very own musicians on stage with us! King on percussion, Neil's drummer will be sitting in. BOTH keyboardists are said to be in attendance and possibly his backing singers too!! Will Neil be there? We don't know. This is a HUGE deal so I can only imagine he would not want to miss it, especially with most of his band there .. With the singer of 'Super Diamond' (California based tribute band who has had Neil Diamond on THEIR stage) performing with us, you never know.... A THEME song for the movie has been written by Luka Bloom and recorded by Denny which we have included in our setlist from last season. Diamond Mountain is the name of the movie and the music theme. Here is the version we will be playing.............https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJZXWfdZRQ0 Here is the official website for the Diamond Festival.........http://www.diamondfest2016.com/ We have our plane tickets and this all goes down at the 'Sun Coast' where we will stay AND perform..... My first time in Vegas........we take off April 20th and then the rehearsals being Now, if this goes well, we have been offered to take the show to the UK in October !!! Then Florida in Nov. Never thought I would be doing this at my age amazing stuff ! Thanks for reading... Enjoy your day everyone... .......Gary

  26. Sorry, but you are right, it is wasted money. If I had not put these same speakers in the same location with the same listening position, I wouldn't say anything. It does some weird stuff. You can put 5.1 surrounds behind you, it's not ideal but it works, but, these in particular just don't work well behind you if you are close to them at all, you need direct firing bookshelves or something. What specifically happens is that on the seats off to the side, when something plays behind you, the one closest to you can't be heard well, but you are in the direct firing line of the tweeter on the other side, so it comes through strong. Same thing if you go to the other side of the room, nothing is hardly ever seemingly behind you. If you couple these with side surrounds of the same type, sometimes there is some weird cancellation going on. I finally got rid of mine altogether in that position. Eventually I will put some direct firing lower towers back there, but for now, there is nothing, it actually sounds better without them and only 5.1 sides. I would not recommend these speakers in this position in your room layout due to nearly identical personal experience. If you need to put any back there, get some direct firing ones. They would work if you were further away, but your angles are pretty much the same thing I had going on and it's just not a good thing. Uhm, ok? This would be like a 180° turn of events here This is bad... now i don't know what to do anymore You just need to make a decision and do what you think is best. If you don't like it, then you will know. You are getting confused about objective information and subjective opinions. Sit down in the listening position in the room and think about it. The sound waves radiate out from each speaker driver and are loudest where they are aimed and get less loud as they are off-axis. Sound waves bounce off walls like a wave in a swimming pool bounces off the sides, then it makes peaks. If you immerse yourself into the room and visualize in your mind how these sounds are coming at you, you will be better able to decide. If after all the advice both subjective and objective and personal immersion and analysis, you make a decision, it will be the best decision you can make. If you implement that decision and you don't like what you hear, then you will know. There can never be true success without the risk of failure.

  29. Most current multi-channel amplifiers output equal power to all channels. Dolby Digital and DTS are designed with the intention that each discrete channel will/can play at equal volume, thus requiring equal amount of power. Dolby Pro Logic was not designed in that manner and multi-channel amplifiers prior to 1995-1997 always had rear channels that output 1/4 of the power of the LCR channels.

  40. hi guys... i just got home from looking at these & thought id pass on some details for anyone interested, the pics are a little deceiving & dont show any real detail or specifics. these are AA x-overs, she said she thinks they were bought in 1989 by her brother but i think AA's are older than that arent they? cosmetics: lots of scratches in the veneer on the tops & the face of the bass bins. most corners have small chipped off pieces of the veneer. scratches about 1-2" long that broke clean through the veneer on the face of one bass bin, also the very bottom horizontal 2" piece of trim board is missing a 1-2" piece off the end. all in all they sounded ok at lower levels, but the cosmetics are very bad for anyone that cares about that... would make great garage/shop speakers though! i offered a little less than $1000 & they passed so seems pretty firm on the $1000 ballpark. let me know if anyone needs any other details. update: well the seller called me back yesterday to make a counter offer & we were able to work out a deal. they are home here now & i will post up some pics before i clean them up as best as i can & put them in their new home. as has been mentioned, i think they are worth the price because they seem to work ok, just wish they werent quite so beat up, thats why i initially passed, im kind of picky about the cosmetics since thats a big part of klipsch to me but i would have paid the asking price if they were a little prettier. just wanted to update this so anyone curious knows they are sold & the ladys phone doesnt ring off the hook!
