  1. I would say that perhaps you might not be "adding" the new devices into the system correctly. are you sure you are trying to "add" a new device following the correct procedure?
  2. congrates... please post up some pictures for the rest of us!
  3. sounds like a great start to a HT system... post pictures when you get it near where you feel satisfied. KL system with separate amps would be heaven!
  4. SMASH!!! those 7's look so impressive over the cambridge,
  5. Michael Manns criterion "thief" on bluray arrived last night, just released this week... superb! I like it just as much as Heat, perhaps better in some respects because it's a period piece. the dialog and thought put into it is awesome the picture is great and there are a few added scenes over the broadcast version.
  6. damn it... it's the curse of the poor. congrates on the new speakers.
  7. while I generally agree with everything here... I think the the retail pricing can be generalized as a cost of production because in this realm of market, there is little need to be competitive. it will always be a generalized percentage figure of the production costs. the only other thing that influences here are intangibles such as reputation and perception of branding.
  8. I want these so bad... let me see what the hospital is paying for partial livers these days.
  9. I think the influence of economies of scale are fairly apparent... but this makes me wonder, what about boutique and niche SS amplifiers. These do appear to be slightly more expensive than boutique Tube amplifiers... in that, I do not think it's logical to compare small production run tube to mass produced SS.
  10. Zappa is off the beaten path? shut up and play yer guitar! this is off the beaten path... four CD set of the Study of player Piano by Conlon Nancarrow. if you need an example...
  11. Harrumph...Gagaku is only partially Japanese in origin. Of its two catagories, togaku is of Chinese and Indian origin and komagaku is Manchurian, Korean, and Japanese origin. The best gagaku is, IMHO, of yayue tradition based on the Chinese imperial court music for banquets and such originating in the Zhou dynasty. Confucious thought so... OK, where you gonna go to find a spirited discussion of stuff like this???? Gotta love it... Thanks, Schu. Opinion on Indonesian Gamelan. I favor the Javanese and some of the wayang scores. Actually always enjoyed wayang...but those go on forever! Indonesian equivalent of a "House of Cards" watching binge. Dave I don't think it's any secret where the origins of asia lies, nothing new there. Japanese gagaku is wholly unique and developed, ei mixed down in complexity, over generations. as far as gamelan sound... I just got Lou Harrisons Gamelan Music I've been pleasantly surprised to the amount of harrisons work that can be found on Vinyl.
  12. Some people like to feel the music as well as hear it... bigger is better

    Craigslist finds

this whole sub forum is craigslist... why do we need a thread named for craigslist?
  14. man that sounds like a great AV unit
  15. they have yet to invent a genre of music that I have, at one time or another, not owned and enjoyed... including Chinese classical music. I was finally able to fin some Japanese Gagaku on LP a while back... superb on vinyl and a bit more tasteful than a lot of classical chinese .
  16. not terribly over priced... 500 a piece isn't that bad. surely you could find worse condition units for a few hundred less. same seller... now these are over priced!
  17. I always made my own hi tess petrol.... Xylene or Toluene as an additive FTW!
  18. Watched the BD release of Kurosawa's Runaway Train
  19. one problem I am having is the VAST differences in sound quality coming from my system depending on recording... it really sucks. I tune the system to a recording or over a few recordings averaging them out... then I pop on something else and it's way off (bass heavy)... then i pop on another recording and it sounds extremely thin.
  20. the original box has zero value on a sale item in this case... it may influence a buyer to feel more secure in buying your item over another though. but that's not added value.
  21. I think for most... we are really only ever going to be able to judge something in relation to what it is you have personally experienced, prior to. this is true for most anything, was this car faster than the last... was this movie better than the best you've seen and so on. the key, as already stated, is mixing in as much critical listening in your life experience as possible... including live scenarios. my current system is NO WHERE near as good as the best system I have ever heard, that honor goes to a iMax klipsch equipped theater near me, but my system is as good as it can be.... for now.
