    HDTV

Yes. But keepin mind that the source of the program means everything. Meaning that an old 1920's movie on an HD channel still looks like an old 1920's movie. It doesn't do a thing to improve the quality of what is fed to it. JJK
  2. I have the Z1 and real happy with it and also the Canon XL-1s. The problem is unless you downconvert to 16 x 9 digital no one will be able to watch it at the present time. You can PTT to the JVC D-VHS tapes but no one has those machines yet. They are very good quality wise. Then there is the Sony HDV recorder/player for about $3500.00 but nobody has them either. There are no discs available yet for burning HDV and there are few recorders available and only in Japan. Sony is still conferencing with the HD-DVD people about a compromise on burners and discs in relation to the Blu-Ray. Many news articles saying that there will be additional delay's. HD-DVD technology can be converted too on present production lines in 15 minutes. BluRay requires a billion dollar factory and the discs still cost more than the HD-DVD discs. So unless you supply a D-VHS deck with the tape your client will not be able to view the wedding for a few years, then they will probably be divorced. JJK
  3. Did anyone catch this program? There was a dude in a blue suit that played the sax like unbelievable. JJK
  4. Harshness at low volumes or high volumes? How far apart are the k-horns? Where is the third k-horn placed? How large is the room? Cememt floors or wood? Drywall or cement walls? How old are the crossovers? Placement of the k-horns? Connecting wires and cables? JJK
  5. But conservative fashion is not her forte. JJK
  6. On the RF blockage of the metal roof, in won't help your reception any, but then again if you have wireless computer stuff then do the walls and the floors and the heater vents with metal and put filtrons on the AC power lines. This will keep the bad guys from trying to steal your identity. JJK
  7. The problem with the F1 stuff is they sound like mini-bikes. Won't do a thing for my sub-woofer. JJK
  8. Just like pinging in a car, it's not good. Almost sounds like there is no circuit to cut off the sound output after shutdown. Probably won't hurt anything except your pride. If it was a car the pinging could lead to detonation which is mucho baddo, puts holes in the pistons. JJK
  9. I kind of like "Dingus" myself. It has such broad scope and appeal. JJK
  10. With all of this data I think Endover is rolling end over end. Just buy one that burns all the formats. Simple solution. And also a player. Query them as to what they want then burn that type of disc. Most everybody (not all) sends them out -R and if somebody complains they burn a +R for them. I send out all of mine -R (80 different people)and only one person said they didn't work. He notified me and he decided to buy a new player that played them both. JJK
  11. Most of the replicators will burn in -R and ask you if you want +R. They will supply both. There are some players that do not play +R and some that do not play -R. -RW and +RW along the same lines. Most of the new players will play both and most of the new burners will burn both. There is also +R Dual Layer and -R Dual Layer and only the newest players can play them. Don't confuse it with DVD-Audio, SACD, DVD, DV-R, DV+R, MP3, WMV, JPG, GIF, AAF, ACC, DTS, THX, and I forgot the rest. JJK
  12. Like I said before the best thing that ever happened to my 1965 Cornwall was installing the new Dean crossover. JJK
  13. I'm sorry about the tube badmouthing, but I did love them some time ago. I first worked with tubes in a tv repair shop in the 50's, then the USN on a tin can (fire control radar)then the Dewline until 1976, then my Heathkit tv's, and amps and pre-amps, then the Fisher receivers. Then switched to solid state in 1985. The best tube guy's were the Western Electric Co.---their tubes would last for 20 years and then some. JJK

    LCD or DLP

There is a Consumers report about 3 months back that covers those issues with great detail and clarity. They separate the ratings into about 3 or 4 catagories. I normally don't a'cotton to them but they did a very good job this time. JJK
  15. Think of the tube as a kind of control device, there is a large DC current flowing from cathode through the grid to the plate. Put a small AC fluctuation on the grid and it causes a huge perfect copy of the fluctuation at the plate which is AC which then can be coupled off with a capacitor to another circuit or the plate circuit current passses thru a transformer winding and the transformer only passes (couples AC components. So your controlling a huge DC current (electron stream) with a tiny small AC voltage. Bam! Now you have a big *** signal with lots of power. The problem with tubes is even though when they made billions of them you had to go thru about 10 of them to get one good one. Tubes have their own little nuances, they generate noise, they amplify the 60 hz filament voltage (known as hum)they get gassy and generate intermodulation distortion, they degrade rather profusely, they can become microphonic, they must be balanced, they run hot and must be fan cooled, they consume lots of power, they require huge components in their circuits, (not all) and if you drop an amplifier on your foot your in hurt city. JJK
  16. One of America's greatest orators (JJK) once said, if you are wiring your attic make sure that if you need 10 wires, add 100 more because of what you will add in the future or you will be sitting in the chair saying to yourself, "why didn't I add 500 more wires when I was up there". JJK
  17. Thanks. My aunt is coming over on Friday and she has a Pacemaker so I guess I will tell her not to sit on the sub-woofer. I would hate to be responsible for her demise. JJK
  18. Does anyone have any input on this if there is a minimum safe distance to keep away from people that have Pacemakers? JJK
  19. Nice. But what about those trinkets sitting on the K-horns, don't they vibrate when you crank it up? JJK
  20. Wood floor not important. K-horns are important. JJK
  21. Hopefully your motherboard battery is the removable type and check the manual for proper replacement procedure. If your machine is old you might consider a new one. JJK
  22. I gave up trying to define true HD. The pr guy's have butchered things up so bad that now I call everything True HD. So if I broadcast some old 8mm films on a "True HD" channel does that mean they are HD quality? I think not. Brownie pictures? no. Super 8 film? no. Black $ white documentary still pictures 80 years old? No. Digital 16 x 9 camcorders? No. (HD cameras have twice the resolution). Still digital cameras set for 1900 x 1900? Yes. 16mm film? Sometimes yes. 35mm film? Yes. VHS tapes? No. DVD discs standard players? No. DVD discs up convert players? Getting close. Projectors? All the ones I have seen really sucked. Dim, low contrast, fuzzy. This includes professional models that cost thousands. What do I mean by Sucked? Go look at the projectors in a pro sports facility or resturant---they suck compared to High-Definition. JJK
  23. Well now you have opened the Pandora's Box. "Usually" over the air has it's own tuner for HD, cable their own and satellite their own. You have to play the game to get what you want. You can get all three versions at Best Buy if you want to cover all the bases. If you have a computer you can get the MY-HD 130 HDTV computer card which is top quality. Then output the card to your Dell. Good luck. JJK
