  1. Had to think about this one... Took a class from Dean Rusk. Used to bump into P. L. Newman fairly regularly back in the days when he was running in SCCA. Met Steve Jobs a couple of times. Saw lots of "celebrities" when I lived in S.F., but usually just gave them their space. James
  2. Buy another pair, they're small.... James
  3. Try adding a pair of Cornwalls. Worked for me ... of course, I went the other way (already had the Cornwalls and added a pair of La Scalas) Never noticed that either was lacking for bass. Too busy enjoying what I have. Had an older (relatively speaking) eastern european-type plumber at the house the other day. I always have some jazz playing in the background - anyway, the guy couldn't leave without quizing me about my speakers. Ya never know who you're going to convert. James
  4. Because of space constraints, I can't toe my Cornwalls in (wouldn't be able to get past them to get to the bathroom). However, I was able to compensate by adding a pair of La Scalas in front and using the Cornwalls for rears. I don't think the soundstage suffered too badly. Oh, by the way, backing up La Scalas with Cornwalls pretty well compensates for any preceived lack of bass "slam" in the La Scalas. James

  6. I believe it has to be designed to be bridged. I have a Carver TFM-45 that can be bridged simply by pushing a button on the back and hooking your speaker wires to the + outputs only (if I remember correctly). However, I also have a Hafler DH200 that requires internal modification (adding a circuit board, etc.) to be bridged. James
  7. I shouldn't have been at Ramstein AB from '69 through '72. Loved Germany, but the Air Force sucks - but not as bad as any other branch of the military (this is what's known as damning by faint praise). James
  8. Wife should post on her (your) own. It helps to get a different perspective on things. We do tend to get a bit myopic with our obsessions at times. The occassional dope slap may also be of benefit. James
  9. There is a HUGH difference between the lower end Denon (made in China) and the higher end stuff (made in Japan). A salesman suckered me into a AVR 1804 and it sounded like CRAP compared to my two channel amp. Took it back in less than a week and traded it in on a B&K Ref 50 and thus began another relentless round of up grades. James
  10. "All rights reserved Roberto Delle Curti - ROYAL DEVICE. Unauthorized copying and reproduction prohibited." Not to worry Roberto.
  11. George: I think you will be very happy with the B&K 200.2. B&K amps and Klipsch Heritage go together very well. I've got a ST125.2 driving my La Scala fronts, another ST125.2 driving my Hersey surrounds, a ST1400 II driving my Cornwall rears, and a ST140 driving my center channel. Sweeet! Enjoy James
  12. I lost track of them at $405 - didn't follow the run up at the close of the auction. $610, WOW - those must be some pretty special painted Heresys!
  13. I'm a vet and I don't need, or expect, any thanks. However, I feel really sorry for the people getting their asses shot off while having to fight Bush's war on the cheap. "Mission Accomplished," indeed. James
  14. Klipschaholic: If you're interested, I have a "New in the Box" Niles DPS-1 for sale. $50 plus $10 shipping. I think retail is ~$90. Edit: SOLD! James
  15. Guess what folks....THEY'RE BAAAAAACK. What is this, the third time these Heresys from Tampa have been listed. This guy must be running out of shills. $811 the first time, $405 the second time. Wonder what kind of phoney bids we'll see this time. James
  16. I had an Alfa Romeo spyder for a while when I lived in San Francisco. I always left the doors unlocked and nothing of value in the car because it lived on the street and I didn't want the top slashed. Every couple of weeks I'd find all the papers from the glove box dumped out on the floor and passenger's seat. Fortunatly, the vent window latches were just glued to the glass, because every once in a while I'd find them broken off by a dim bulb thief too stupid to try the door handle before prying open the vent window. Fact of life in the City. James
  17. How can I miss you if you won't go away? James
  18. La Scalas are shorter and narrower than a Cornwall, but they're also about 9" deeper so they take up more floor space. La Scalas sure don't look small in my room. James
  19. Thanks Parrot: I was wondering who voted for Rove and his moronic sock puppet. James
  20. Recreational Vehicles: No matter where you go, you're always in the way. James
  21. My Birch La Scalas and Heresys are both 7 ply 3/4" James
  22. I'd think twice about the Denon AVR 1905. The lower end Denon receivers are made in China (not sure about the 1905). I believe the Japanese built Denons are OK, but stay away from the Chinese junk. When I got into HT a salesman suckered me into an AVR 1804 (with the understanding that I would be using my two channel amp to power the fronts and using the Denon for the center and rears). Of course, when I got it home I discovered that the Denon didn't even HAVE pre-outs, so scratch that plan. Anyway, compared to my old two channel amp, the Denon sounded like CRAP. I took it back and thus started the upgrade escalation of my whole system. James
