  1. The "X" dates your Cornwalls to '82. Best match would be a Heresy I, but a II will work just fine & there is a kit available from Klipsch to update the II to III specs. $150 is a good price. I'll leave the woodworking question to others who know what they're talking about. [] James
  2. Should sound just fine. I'm running a SM-4305 amp that I bought in 1980 in my office system. Optonica (Sharp) made some pretty nice stuff. James

DownUnder: Try www.deepdiscount.com great prices with free shipping! (Although probably not to "DownUnder.") Plus an addditional 25% off sale through the 23rd. Enter promo code DD1108. James
  4. Now, look what you've done....[]
  5. The honor guard at my Father's funeral "played" one of those "ceremonial bugles." This member of the family thought it was pretty lame. James
  6. Agreed. I, for one, will never buy another Monster product (even if they weren't ridiculously overpriced). James
  7. fini: Been a tough season for 'coons around these parts. I did a 20 mi bike ride last Sunday and counted 4 that had been on the losing end of encounters with cars. James
  8. What, you were maybe expecting someone who drives a Humper to have taste? Actually, wooden "artillery" wheels were used on many cars up through the early 1930's. James
  9. Used to run into him at SCCA races all the time. P.L. Newman - just one of the guys.... No celebrity BS. One of the GOOD guys. I miss him already. Kinda surprised how much the news affected me. James
  10. Try to find some B&K gear to listen to. The ST-125.2/Reference 125.2 amps (125 wpc) can be had in the ~$2-300 range on audiogon or ebay (they're pretty much bullet proof, so I wouldn't be afraid of buying used). The PT3 SII preamp/tuner is also a nice little unit that can be found for similar prices - does not, however, have a phono stage - if that is important to you. The PT5/Reference 5 is basically the same unit, but with balanced outputs on the main channels. Retail is about the same as the Emotiva stuff you cited. James
  11. Welcome to the forum. Lots of good folks & good information here! 1. T = 1979. 2. Heresy. 3. Nope (not me anyway). IMO Cornwalls in good condition (any year) are a steal at $600. James
  12. Don't know. I did, however, have a MGA CRT sitting directly on top of one of my Cornwalls for many years with no problem. I think the distance from the big magnets to the top of the cabinets is sufficient that there is no effect. You may, however, have a problem with a CRT sitting beside a Cornwall because of proximity to the big woofer magnet. Plasma or LCD TVs would not be affected. By the way, welcome to the Forum! James
  13. "It acts as an arterial declogger, accelerator and thus caffeine infusor." Pretty much sez it all as far as I'm concerned -- where do I send the check? James
  14. I think this is the forum that Max was promoting a while back - as I recall, Max is one of the moderators. Visited the site once.... James
  15. Don't know if it is the "best," but B&K just released their new Reference 70. I'll second bhenry's B&K recommendation & concur on using multiple amps. I running a B&K Ref 50 with four B&K ST-125.2 amps in my main system of LaScalas, Cornwalls, & Heresys. Sounds good to me! James
  16. Cal: Try different amplification. I briefly had a Denon 1804 and the SQ was simply horrible (IMHO). Tuner sucked too. Couldn't hold a candle to the 15 year old Carver amp I had at the time. James
  17. Geeze sputnik, you still bleeding? Ever gonna fill us in on what happened? James
  18. "rainbow's near the ground" "rainbow aerosol's" "prodominatly" "constituional" Looks like she may have missed a few English classes as well. James
  19. It is cool to know. I've been able to trace the paternal (Swiss) side of the family back to October 2, 1727 when Johannes (Hans) Heise arrived in Philadelphia from Canton Basel on the ship "Adventurer" via Rotterdam. His six sons spelled the family surname three different ways (Heise, Heisey, and Hisey). Some of them stayed in PA (Heisey - my branch), some moved to the Shenandoah VA area (Hisey), and some emigrated to Markham Township, Ontario, Canada (Heise). No luck going further back in Switzerland so far.... Haven't had much luck with the maternal (Norwegian) side. So far I can only go back 3 generations. I did recently discover, however, that I have two 1st cousins who I've never met (and didn't know about) that are half native american (Ojibwe). James
  20. Yeah, As it is, each of those 1,320 ft runs costs about $20K.

    Pet Peeve

I have a 1933 Franklin Olympic Convertible that I show occassionally. Now, I'm not one of those "look but don't touch" types & don't usually don't mind if a kid wants to step up on the running board to look inside the car. Anyway, I was at a show awhile back and a father with two teenage sons came walking up to my car. One of the kids - probably about 13 or 14 - put a hand on the fender, leapt up, turned and planted his butt on the front fender - his father didn't say a word! A buddy & I were standing about 15' away & we looked at each other in stunned disbelief as our jaws hit the ground. It took a few seconds for me to gather my wits about me enough yell GET THE F... off my car! The father turned & looked at us with kind of a dumb "huh" expresion on his face. Totally clueless! James
  22. I like the note on the back of the packaging: "Please make sure you have made the right decision" Yeah, not much room for second guessing here! James
