Try to find some B&K gear to listen to. The ST-125.2/Reference 125.2 amps (125 wpc) can be had in the ~$2-300 range on audiogon or ebay (they're pretty much bullet proof, so I wouldn't be afraid of buying used). The PT3 SII preamp/tuner is also a nice little unit that can be found for similar prices - does not, however, have a phono stage - if that is important to you. The PT5/Reference 5 is basically the same unit, but with balanced outputs on the main channels. Retail is about the same as the Emotiva stuff you cited. James

Don't know. I did, however, have a MGA CRT sitting directly on top of one of my Cornwalls for many years with no problem. I think the distance from the big magnets to the top of the cabinets is sufficient that there is no effect. You may, however, have a problem with a CRT sitting beside a Cornwall because of proximity to the big woofer magnet. Plasma or LCD TVs would not be affected. By the way, welcome to the Forum! James

Don't know if it is the "best," but B&K just released their new Reference 70. I'll second bhenry's B&K recommendation & concur on using multiple amps. I running a B&K Ref 50 with four B&K ST-125.2 amps in my main system of LaScalas, Cornwalls, & Heresys. Sounds good to me! James

Cal: Try different amplification. I briefly had a Denon 1804 and the SQ was simply horrible (IMHO). Tuner sucked too. Couldn't hold a candle to the 15 year old Carver amp I had at the time. James

It is cool to know. I've been able to trace the paternal (Swiss) side of the family back to October 2, 1727 when Johannes (Hans) Heise arrived in Philadelphia from Canton Basel on the ship "Adventurer" via Rotterdam. His six sons spelled the family surname three different ways (Heise, Heisey, and Hisey). Some of them stayed in PA (Heisey - my branch), some moved to the Shenandoah VA area (Hisey), and some emigrated to Markham Township, Ontario, Canada (Heise). No luck going further back in Switzerland so far.... Haven't had much luck with the maternal (Norwegian) side. So far I can only go back 3 generations. I did recently discover, however, that I have two 1st cousins who I've never met (and didn't know about) that are half native american (Ojibwe). James

I have a 1933 Franklin Olympic Convertible that I show occassionally. Now, I'm not one of those "look but don't touch" types & don't usually don't mind if a kid wants to step up on the running board to look inside the car. Anyway, I was at a show awhile back and a father with two teenage sons came walking up to my car. One of the kids - probably about 13 or 14 - put a hand on the fender, leapt up, turned and planted his butt on the front fender - his father didn't say a word! A buddy & I were standing about 15' away & we looked at each other in stunned disbelief as our jaws hit the ground. It took a few seconds for me to gather my wits about me enough yell GET THE F... off my car! The father turned & looked at us with kind of a dumb "huh" expresion on his face. Totally clueless! James
