  1. Hey Bob, I think you should go for it. I have had a couple of amps from Antique Sound Lab or ASL. One was the ASL mg15dt or something like that. It had a switch that gave you a choice between a 5 watt triode set amp and a 15watt pentode. They also have a ASl 1001DT. It is a 29 watt set amp and with a flick of a switch it becomes 50 watts, so you can play with both options; Marc
  2. There is no reason you cant have both to play with. I have had 2 separate amp systems sharing my main speakers for years. I have my a/v receiver with a Crown K2 power amp powering the Epics, plenty of power there. I have also played with tube integrated amps and T-amps as well. Right now I have a Topping TP32ex. It is a T-amp with 30watts at 8 ohms and 50 at 4. Got it off of Amazon. It has a usb, a digital coax and an analog input. It is a nice little amp for about $160 bucks. Each amp has its own speaker wire with banana plugs and I just swap them out at the speaker terminals when I want to play with the little amps whether for fun or for going minimalist.
  3. I remember reading of the impedance drop here on this site, though some years ago. I also, could not find the info doing a quick search for the Epic line. You might do a quick search for the impedance of the RF7 speaker. Its impedance drops below 3 ohms and has a similar curve from what I have also read.
  4. I have read that the impedance can dip down to 2.8 ohms at times. I have used my Cf3's with several tube amps over the years including a 5 watt set amp. They sounded nice with tubes, though they sometimes had a little too much bass with the amps I had.
  5. I believe the Epics on Ebay would be a version 3. There was a guy who I followed on the Klipsch forum here who had an 5.1 Epic theater. I think he had 3 CF4's across the front and CF3's for rears. All powered by Mcintosh Amps. I have not seen him here in a long long time though. I have been toying for some time now getting an another CF3 to use as a center channel. I know it would be a rockin center.
  6. I have always liked Rotel amps and used them for years with my Epic's. Check out the Rotel RMB 1075- 120 watts x 5. They can be had at your price point and there are some up on EBay at this time.
  7. One reason is that your mains are a 2 way speaker, as are my Epic CF3's which I also think of as having smooth but not etched highs, which I like.
  8. i have read that the CF3's and 4's can dip below 3 ohms and though efficient, can be demanding on an amplifier. You want a amp that can handle the dips and not strain. I used a Rotel RB991 for many years and loved the sound with my CF3's. It was 200 watts a side at 8ohms and over 300 watts at 4. Does your Marantz have preouts for adding an amp.
  9. I have never seen that before in which someone has put the center channel inside another box to give it that natural wood look. I like it. Yes, these center speakers have to be somewhat big as they have to house the twin 8" drivers and the big horn. My C-7 weighs nearly 40 pounds.
  10. There is an KV-4 and an Academy for sale on Ebay right now. There is a KLF C-7 for sale on Audiogon.com though overpriced. None are an exact match for the colors you desire though. As was already stated, the KV-4 only came in black.
  11. I have had Epic CF3's vs.1's for 12 years or more now, and I have not heard another speaker that I would sell them for and I attend Audio shows whenever possible as well as visit high end audio shops. The Epics do what a great many speakers just can't do. Concert level effortless slam when cranked and yet also excel at low level listening for late night sessions. They have powerful bass and the highs are smooth. They are well worth the asking price and more, in my humble opinion. I have not heard a great many of the older Klipsch speakers and so can't compare. But I have heard 100's of speakers costing from 5000 to 50,000 dollars and on so many levels they just can't touch some ofthe great qualities of the Epic line. I myself give much props to Roy Delgado in their creation.
  12. I don't know if his statements are true or not. He did say that when going to the KLF line they changed the magnets from neo to the traditional ones. What I do find interesting is that I remember when that was first posted as I just recently purchased my Epic CF3's and started coming to this site for more info on them. I still have them as well, and also have no desire to replace them.
  13. I just discovered the old thread I was citing and bumped it. Scroll down to everything you wanted to know about the Epics. The thread is titled Epic CF series and was bumped into the general klipsch forum.
  14. There was an old post here titled everything you wanted to know about the Epic line. One thing mentioned was that the woofers were changed for the version 3's. The drivers in the 3rd version then became the drivers used in the KLF series.
  15. Here are two companies to look at. One is Antique Sound Lab and the other is Prima Luna. I have had 2 integrated amps from Antique sound lab and liked both of them. They do make straight power amps as well. Have only read about the other company's products.
  16. The center seat of my couch is in the sweet spot and I always sit there. Though it is a 5.2 surround system, I often listen to music in stereo. I am doing so now as I type this post. I am currently testing out a new amp I just bought off of Amazon- Topping TP32EX. A T-amp which is 30 watts at 8 oms and 50 watts at 4. So far it sounds pretty impressive. Listening to Pandora through my Squeezebox Touch into my Epic CF3's.
  17. have you gone in the Oppo audio menu and selected surround sound or is it set to stereo output. If it is set to stereo it will not output a surround format.
  18. Check out a site called Adonacorporation.com. They sell many types of speaker cones and spikes as well as threaded inserts that might help.
  19. Greetings, I would like to know one of the serial #'s from the back sticker and port length. Thanks,
  20. Shiva

    Epics on ebay.

Congrats from another fellow Epic owner. I trust you will enjoy them.

    Epics on ebay.

Looking at the serial decal, it looks like it says Epic CF4 to my eyes. Also, from the serial #, these speakers were made on the 41 day of 1995. I don't think they would be version 1's by that date. They do appear to have the longer ports. Probably version 2's.
  22. For anyone interested in some Epic CF4's, who also live in the Florida area. there is a pair up for sale on Ebay at a great price of $575.00. The guy selling them does not have them listed as CF4's, but you can see that in his pic of the serial # sticker.
  23. I would just like to mention another free music site that I listen to from time to time called jazzradio.com. The fidelity is quite good to my ears. It has annoying commercials but the way around that is to just click onto another station as soon as you hear it.
  24. For those who have heard both, did you find that the Epic CF4 was a big improvement over the CF3 or not much of an upgrade. Factoring in both are version 1's. I have had my CF3's for the last eight years or so and they still impress. I have the opportunity to get a nice pair of CF4's at a good price and am thinking of getting them and using one of the CF3's for center channel duty to replace the C-7 for a slamming front end. I enclosed a pic to show where it will go and how it will be oriented. If not, I will find another CF3 at some point to put inbetween them. I have read some mention that they preferred the sound of the 10" drivers in the CF3 to the 12's in the CF4.
  25. There is another method to do this, which I have used for years now for my second amp. I simply have a set of speaker wires running from my processor and another running from my second amp. both terminated with banana plugs. When I want to listen to my tube amp or now my little Topping sp-30, I just swap the wires at the speaker terminals. The back of my speakers are easy to get to and only takes a minute.
