  1. I have several (access to SA-XR25, XR45, XR55, XR-70 and XR-57) and think they sound similar to reported here...with good source material either movies or for music on DVDs it sounds very good...can be a bit sterile (rather than thin to my ears) with CDs and some speakers I'd guess...I also used RB-5s and thought they did a fine job for CD music (2 channel)... I've used KSB 1.1s, kg2s, kg4s, Heresys, Quartets, Chorus lls in addition to the previously mentioned RB-5s... Currently have the XR-55 in the garage with the KSB 1.1s...the XR-57 is hooked up to my TV on the main floor and Quartets with a KLF-C7 center, XR-25s and the XR-45 at family members houses (with KG 1s, kg4s and KSB 1.1s) mostly for 2 channel sound...I think the XR-70 is unattached right now... I think they are well worth the money if you can find them for their intended purpose be it multichannel TV/light Home Theater duty or the later popularity as 2 channel digital with properly matched speakers...a lot of bang for the buck. Several who have replied here already are the reason I started buying them...but I did get a bit out of hand too... Bill
  2. I believe the part that is pushed in is just a dust cover and should not effect sound...I predict you will be very pleased with kg2s...these speakers were a design with Paul Klipsch and Gary Gillum (the k and g in the name) so they definitely have the Family sound...good luck with your sale and receipt... Bill
  3. just saw this as well...Happy 60th dtel...seems you share the same birthdate with my older brother, ScorpsFan... Bill
  4. I've been using a kg2 updated with a new Crites crossover and a Titanium tweeter modification...with my Sherwood monaural amp and it sounds wonderful... Bill
  5. Happy Birthday Amy...hope all is well and many happy returns. Bill
  6. I believe they "green" grills are for real but appear to my eyes to be almost a brown color...especially when compared to black...I've had them on kg2s and Quartets... fullsizeoutput_152 by wlegg206, on Flickr Bill
  7. dtr20 is correct...early kg2s had no rear passive radiator... Bill
  8. I had the Outlaw RR2150 and it sounded very nice with Klipsch...you will find several other members here that also enjoyed it...the RR2160 is a bit more power and a touch simpler to use???...good luck with your choice. http://saloon.outlawaudio.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=82&page=1 Bill
  9. that's always possible as the reason for me liking the H3s better... Bill
  10. I liked any of the Nakamichi STASIS (Nelson Pass) receivers (SR-2A and TA-2A)...the Outlaw Audio RR2150 sounded very nice, I sometimes wish I hadn't moved it along...the early McIntosh sounds warm (and really holds it's value) but it moved along as well (MAC1900 and MA6200)...the Panasonic SA-XR "digital" receivers set to 2 channel are clean and inexpensively priced. Bill
  11. when I listened to H3s and CW3s at a store carrying Heritage, I felt the H3s were a far better "value" as they sounded great...the presence of the CW3s were better but I couldn't justify the price jump for the amount of better I heard... Of course things depend on your financials, the room you'll have them in and the gear you plan to use... Good luck with your choice... Bill
  12. the tweeters Bob talks about are the tweeter diaphragms to Titanium...well under $100 and you will appreciate the difference...you can do the crossovers later unless there is something wrong with them... Quartets were about $1100 plus when new and are almost Forte lls...I think they are worth it but you'll have to decide for yourself... The Titanium tweeter diaphragms can be replaced quite easily even from someone like me who cannot solder or do much else electronically...I enjoyed that upgrade for a while before doing the crossover upgrades: Yes, time is the enemy... Good luck wit your choice... Bill
  13. placement is key with the Quartets and their rear passive which is used to extend bass...having owned both of these...if they are both up, running as they should, the Quartets should handily beat the KG 4.5s...unless you find the Klipsch 3 way sound not to your liking... One thing that really wakes either of these up is BEC (Bob Crites) Titanium tweeter modifications in either of these speakers...crossovers too but only if needed. My Quartets beat the KG 5.5s that were in my smaller HT set upping a bit more efficient; 97.5 vs 95...but the bass could dig lower with the KG's; 36dB vs 38dB for the Quartets... Good luck with your choice, Bill
  14. seems like a great price for what I think are great Klipsch Heritage speakers...good luck to seller and thanks oldred... Bill
  15. for monaural sound (especially classical music sez I ) I'm thinking I like the Sherwood FM Tuner with the Sherwood S-1000 amp... I think Dad wouldn't be upset that I changed out his EICO and Sherwood combo since the Sherwood may just be the better tuner and I'd bet he would have wanted the better Tuner if he could have afforded one...(I know, right??? ) Bill
  16. did you do the corner repair older???...how bad was it?...seems like a nice price on some great speakers Bill
  17. ...as well as you and yours...thank you and stay safe Bill
  18. hope everyone in the area stays safe... Bill
  19. I did think that after I wrote this...thanks for keeping me honest jimjimbo I did find what I was doing wrong...it appears I put a marking on the rear for connecting a Multiplex and used that Output jack instead of the one for Audio... Bill
  20. can anyone help me with the proper way to connect these two together???...I have an EICO HFT-92 Monaural AM/FM/MPX Tuner and have had it updated by Craig at NOSValves...I also have an updated by Craig HT81 Stereo amplifier...I had this Tuner originally connected to a Sherwood S-1000 Monaural Amp (as Dad did since 1956 or thereabouts) but had since picked up a Sherwood S-3000 Tuner (also freshened by Craig) without the MPX so I have connected the Sherwood to Sherwood and wanted to connect EICO to EICO...any help would be appreciated...I do have photos of the rear panels of each and believe that I need to use a Y connector to go from the one connector Tuner to the two connector amplifier but would like your help here...I appreciate any help you might provide...Bill
  21. Buick 455ci V8s ruined me for other cars...Dad had a '73 Limited (don't call it an Electra 225 ) and Mom had a 1974 LeSabre both with this engine...long past the 455ci Stage 1 era but still had plenty of torque... I eventually got the LeSabre and it easily sat 6 plus and got 12 mpg on the highway and 10 around town... Both of those cars by the way had no problem spinning the tires... I had not heard of the Max Trac before Davis so thanks for that! Bill
  22. thanks guys, I have gone back to using the Quartets with a KLF-C7 center for this smaller HT setup...no money out of pocket...I was just looking for information on the proper or designed to be a match Center for RB-5s as Mains. I realize there are at least two schools of thought on what makes a Center match or if that is really even important or if it is better to just get the best sounding Center I can find... My main HT set up is three Heresys across the front and this was a secondary system mostly used for TV and the occasional DVD... Thanks everyone for the input... Bill
