  1. Pilot's headsets with active noise reduction have been around for quite a while now so the technology is fairly mature, particularly where the noise spectrum of aircraft is concerned. Most pilots I know either have them or want them. A friend of mine has owned a Bose ANR headset for a few years. It is well made, comfortable, and performs well. At $1000, it is also roughly twice as expensive as other well made, comfortable, well performing headsets. Dave H
  2. Shouldn't someone intervene here? Check out the description. He lives about 30min. from here. Maybe I should. P****Whip - not just a desert topping for cats. Dave_H
  3. They have already been deleted. What were they? Dave_H
  4. I will never pass up an opportunity to frag......Rushmore Dave H
  5. Put him in a room with the father for 30 minutes. Whatever is left they can do with as they please. Dave H
  6. Where exactly are they? They look like they would be a bear to pack but at least you wouldn't have to worry about scratching pristine woodwork. If there is no rush I may be able to help out. PM me with details if interested and you win the bid. I live 25mi south of Boston. Dave H P.S. OR - you could sell me the REDS :-) ( just kidding - too much stuff already )
  7. I bought one at Radio Shack and wound up returning it so I would have to give it a thumbs down. When I tried to tin a wire it acted just like the strand across the battery in Lynnm's post. Cherry red. The tip is made up of two conductive ceramic? elements separated by a thin insulator. As noted before you basically short out the tip and generate heat in the component being soldered. I tried it on a ring terminal also and the heat buildup was too gradual - the insulation on the wire began to melt. With a conventional iron you are transferring heat to the joint and have better control of it. I suppose I could have played with it more and maybe got better results but it did not look very promising. Be aware that I have been soldering electronic gear for 40+ years so it could be an old dog/new tricks issue. Dave H

I also PM you. ---------------- Forgot to mention - there were tantalum input caps on mine which I replace with jumpers. My tube pre has output caps so they weren't needed. Probably helped but I made the change before serious listening so I can't say with any conviction. Dave H

If you have what are your thoughts? ---------------- I have owned a 410 for a number of years. Mine was either factory wired or done by a competent tech. Haven't tried it on my Klipsch speakers but it is able to drive electrostatics quite well. I haven't used it for a while due to a bad power switch (and the availbility of other amps) but I remember being a decent amp. Dave H
  10. Avoiding the cost and frustrations of theater going is a great way to rationalize the expense of new HT gear to SWMBO. Dave H

New to the forum - just figured out how do do the "quote" thing. Dave H

I just can't type here what I am thinking...if only it were a forum member I knew better. Yeah, I had second thoughts about that as well. Sounded a bit like the "looks like Willow doesn't drive stick anymore" line from BTVS. Then I thought - well we are all mature adults here, sage Klipschaholics whose minds are pure:-)
  13. Dave: My wife drives a Laser Red, 1996 Mustang SVT Cobra. It has a 5-speed and she loves it. I drive our truck. You got me there. My wife breaks out in a cold sweat at the sight of a clutch pedal. I do, however envy the Mustang. A friend has an aluminum bodied AC Cobra (not Shelby) with a 5L SHO and five speed that I maintain. When the girls get back from college the first thing they want to do is drive it. My friend is OK with that!!! Dave H

  15. The 1292 is a very good projector according to the folks on the AVS forum. If the tubes are in good shape (little phosphor wear, no burn in, etc) then they are worth repairing. With two you should be able to make one good unit. The only consistent complaint I have read about is that they sound like a hovercraft. Go the the CRT forum on AVS and be prepared to spend some time on the learning curve. Their proponents are as passionate about them as we are about Klipsch. Personally, I don't need another time consuming hobby so I went with a DLP projector for my HT after spending acouple of months browsing the CRT forums. Dave H
  16. I saw it in the theater when it first came out. I pre-ordered the unrated version. The only difference I can tell from the R rated version is a cringe inducing addition to an otherwise LMAO funny puppet sex scene. It takes a lot to gross me out but that was over the line. I may just double dip and get the R rated version as well. The transfer to DVD looks great and the audio is good too. Dave H
  17. Sorry. Really have to figure out why this thing repeats my replies.
  18. And sometimes I don't need my three at all - well not for a while anyway. BTW - back in the early seventies I wrenched for a Lotus dealership. The Cortina was my personal favorite. Test drives were always a big grin. Dave H
  19. Some like four wheels - some like two - I like three. Only 150hp but when you punch it she really...never mind.
  20. I purchased an Infocus 4805 when they were having the Super Bowl special where you got the projector, pull down screen, and long (50ft?) S-video cable for $1000. Very happy with the projector. The screen is OK too but a bit small for my application. I haven't checked recently but I am sure you can find similar deals out there. Dave H
  21. I used Kimber Caps from Partsexpress in my Fortes and Academy. They made a worthwhile improvement for a modest investment. Specifically the Fortes are less harsh - I modded the Academy soon after I bought it so I can't really say what the change was there. Dave H
  22. I know you don't want to hear this but nobody can make that determination for you. I use 4.2s for surround speakers in my HT. While I was upgrading the crossovers in my Forte 11s (before I set up the HT) I used them in my 2 channel setup. They are a capable speaker and will play cleanly and loudly enough with modest power. I doubt you dislike them but if purchased cheaply enough you won't loose money. As for the associated electronics - should be fine. Could I use them as the main speaker in my 2 channel setup - no - not any more than a Cornwall of K-horn owner could use my fortes. Dave H
  23. A guy I knew went through a mid-life "crisis" and proceded to get a bunch of tatoos. Every time he got a new one he would proudly show it off. Don't know why because I would always bust his chops about them. Anyway - one day he shows up with a half naked woman on one of his calves. I said something like " now when the dog humps your leg he will have a good reason". He was not amused but at least he stopped showing me the artwork. Dave H
  24. You look like a man who really knows how to handle himself....and frequently does. (Duckman) You couldn't pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel.(Weird Al)

    "Supersize Me"

Your not SUPPOSED to eat BigMacs EggMcMuffins or Whoppers or pizza or fries or anything exclusively for an entire month. I go on road trips with friends of mine to pick up salvage aircraft and the rule is only one fast food meal per day tops. Dave H
