Pretty crazy tragedy. I was at work helping a customer and her cell phone rang. It was her sister telling her that the bridge collapsed. I've watched the videos and looked at the pics. I couldn't imagine having that happen while driving. I just hope I would have the good sense to keep myself alive and help anyone else out that I could.

The Klipsch Sub-12 has been said to be an incredible sub for the money.

Several things will affect the sound quality: position in the room of the speakers, seating position relative to the location of the speakers, room size, etc, etc. Some people have tried to 'loosen up' their new RF-7s by playing some music pretty loudly on a loop all day long while they were away. Go ahead and try that. It certainly won't hurt anything and it might help them a bit. Something with a full spectrum of bass-midrange-treble.

If you want to try a different cable, I have a 3 foot long DVI to HDMI cable that I bought but never used it because I didn't realize my cable box didn't support the DVI output that it had on it until after I bought it. [] Free to you, just pay for actual shipping cost.

Very clean setup you have there. Looks just like my OO Forte IIs. Great 'little' speakers, aren't they?

One nice thing I've found about Fortes is that they don't need a really high-end amp to make them sound really good. I used a few different amps/receivers with my old RF-7s and couldn't afford to keep trying to find the holy grail for them. If you look at my signature you'll see that I'm running a Sonic Impact T-amp with my Fortes. I have my oppo DVD player going directly into it, no pre-amp at this time. I don't know exactly what dB number I'm hitting at times, but I can tell you that it is very loud and very clear. Having all the bass from 80Hz and down be handled by my SVS sub definitely helps the little amp have more juice for the rest of the frequency range however. I think you'll do fine with whichever one you choose, both are good brands. Pick the one that has the features you want most.

What Doug said. You're using an upconverting player which will never be anywhere near the picture quality of actual HDTV. But, in doing what it does (upconvert) the oppo player is one of the best. One thing you might also want to check is that if you have made certain picture/brightness/tint/etc settings with your previous player, you might have to re-adjust those since you're using a different input (HDMI) on your TV/receiver.

80Hz is usually recommended as a good starting point, then you can make small adjustments from there.

I don't think any plan involving putting them off the floor is going to be recommended. The tweeters will probably be firing too far above your head while seated.

That would be the speaker's crossover that you're seeing. Call Klipsch tech support - they're awesome!

Very nice find! I bought my Forte IIs from a guy who was going into the priesthood, oiled oak for $275 in near mint condition. He ran tube amps through them ever since he had bought them new. I had intended to buy them to turn them for a profit on eBay but I decided to hook them up at my place to have a listen. After A/B'ing with the RF-7s that I had at the time, the RF-7s went for sale on eBay (and I ended up losing money on them) and the Forte IIs took their place and are still there.

To answer your question about uncompressed sound, newer formats are using HDMI which allows a much higher amount of video and audio information to be sent to a TV or receiver. Its like how with MP3 formats you can have recordings with a very low bit rate (poor quality but doesn't take up much room on the hard drive) or with a very high bit rate (sounds much better but takes up a lot more hard drive space).
