  1. I sure like mine Sub, it drives the dog out of my Las thats good to hear! its a sexy little amp. Can you change the color that lights the tubes? Are they LEDs? Good question Sub, not really sure of the answer though. I just fire the thing up and play it THX Shakey, like you I love my Amadeus
  2. Yes, they sound good, but not that good. Non linear behavior with non linear speaker loads. Pleasant distortions by way of even order harmonics is what makes the "warm" sounding. Not a bad thing, but not worth the money. Been there done that with Mac, Marantz, HK Citation, Dynaco, Scott, etc................space heaters that need to have the bias babysat and tube replacment/matching. Not worth it for me, but obviously yes for others. Try chip amps. You should listen to some modern tube designs. Nothing like what you describe. Shakey You should listen to even more modern solid state designs like Class D. Listen, we can debate this tubes vs SS thing till the cows come home. You like what you like........so on and so forth. I have heard some very good sounding SS amps in my system. A couple I could almost live with long term. But they do not have the natural tone and humanness of tubes. And I am not speaking about warmth, and midrange lushness. I heard a Marantz 7B years ago, and it would put me to sleep. So that's NOT my idea of what tubes should sound like. One that came close for me was a Plinius SA-102. Extremely good SS amp that I used for a while on some Piega P10s. But as soon as I inserted a good pair of tube monoblocks back into the system it was game over for the Plinius. Listen to whatever you like, but just know that there are tube amps that can compete with SS amps at what they do best. Don't paint with such a broad brush. And like I said, there are some good sand amps that can give you a healthy dose of tube goodness, but don't quite make it all the way there. Shakey THX Shakey, I'll stick with your "You like what you like" as my main rig has tube pre's and SS power and I'm more than pleased with them driving my 804's
  3. I sure like mine Sub, it drives the dog out of my Las
  4. Nice price Billybob, I'll second props on that baby. I love mine in my desktop setup at work;-)
  5. I started with the HiFiMan EF2A MusicL55, it is a good little amp for sure and would drive either pair you own. I've since moved up to and prefer the Qinpu A3. it's my desktop amp being fed by files off my computer coming back thru HRT's Music Streamer II DAC. The A3 also allows you to direct feed it via 1/8 jack any MP3 player as well. My two preferred cans at my desktop are my AKG 702's or my Grado SR125's. Just my opinion but for $30 more I think the Qinpu is a big step up on the EF2A
  6. I recently fixed my resolving issue Tigger, bought myself a $2K medium resolution rig and to give creedance to Bruces computer toe tapping I find myself enjoying my new little rig just as much as the one that cost 10 times as much! Now how is that or even better how am I
  7. Glad you brought this one up Landru as I've been wanting to ask Vertical owners if they ever lay the Vert's on their sides (guess the horns would not be vertical then) and if so do they use risers? You could still have the inboard/outboard option. I've recently been given a old pair of vertical cabinets and I'm thinking I'd like mine to lay vertical.
  8. I've been thinking about throwing the MMF cork mat on my RP-1 because I hate that my felt one always wants to stick to my records! (Static electricity I'm sure) plus $50 is a lot cheaper than what I really want (Funk Firm Achroplat) Would seem to put a $299 platter on a $445 table!
  9. Luv the plinth aj2, that was my first table Had a little electronic repair shop put a 5 pin DIN on it to go into my Grundig shortwave head unit
  10. I know Seti's old 8WPC Canary SET's sure sounded sweet on his Belle's I have no doubt Ms. Manley's amps would sound excellent on Las
  11. If they did work out on these bass bins, would I have to call them Snail-Trac's? Dave Judging by the size next to that Heresy I'd say they have nice dimensions to sit atop the snails:-)
  12. I've heard this somewhere before, is this a Government job by chance:-0 LOL
  13. I figure by the time I spent the money for tools, nice wire and hap hazard labor (mine) I could just delve out $150.00 for a 25Ft pair of Franks pre made 13AWG wires:-0 http://signalcable.com/classicspeaker.html I use a $125.00 15Ft pair of his shotgun bi-wires and love them on my Nautilus 804's. I mean what's $125.00 on a $3.5K pair of speakers anyway! I won't pay stupid money for any cables (usually buy most of mine second/third) hand off A-goN. For the wire/cable nay sayers I will say a cheap pair of AQ Evergreen's sound nothing like nor as good as AQ Cobra's, Diamondback's or even Black Mamba II's. My logic has always been stay within the 10% rule on cabling of nice gear. With that said I could have gone up to $350.00 on speaker cables on the 804's but why when I got a very good (well made and nice looking) pair for a Benji and a Grant:-) Sorry that would be for what the OP wants, mine were a Benji, a Jackson and a Licoln;-)
  14. I'm thinking I'd like to see these bowl games but there is still a lot of football left and it has been a strange year for jokeying for position! By the time you get to my last pick you'll realize most are hypothetical and that I'm just having fun with some wishful thinking. Have a great Turkey Day all and I'll be seeing if my Oklahoma Longhorns show up against TT or if my OK St. ones play:-( Alabama beats Fla. St. for the Hat Trick, Fla. State comes in way too cocky and Nick just has them nose down and play hard nosed running attack. Auburn slaps the dog snot out of Ohio St. (I hate these guys and Urban just makes that multiplied by 10)and who better to give him his first Ohio State loss than Gus and Auburn:-) Missouri takes down Clemson, Tiger fight to the death Stanford surprises OK St. Cowboys get rode hard and put up wet by a Cardinal:-0 Baylor forgets that loss and flogs the Gamecocks! Spurrier looks like a deer in the headlights by the third quarter M St. Trojans catch Sparky off guard Oregon recovers from the "Bear Down" and blows N. Illinois away The Cheeseheads and Fresno State go head to head right to the final kick LSU puts the bedonka donk on Big Bowl Bob and sends the Sooners home limping UCF surprises Louisville and gets them by a field goal at the end of the third Q and they zero out on defense in the fourth USC beats UCLA by a TD topping off Orgeron's year;-) Duke smacks down the fighting Irish, Brian Kelly is dismayed by Cutcliffe's Blue Devils and last but not least (and my personal favorite) John-E Futball is beaten by Rice 47-13 in his most humiliating defeat to date:-0 LOL He could stand a little 101 in humility
  15. Yo Fav, just turned 57 and ride this one around town all the time:-0
  16. I love seeing the generosity of this forum's members, I was recently given (by yet another fine forum member) these nice Horizontal's and can't wait to build them up;-)
  17. That is a beautiful table/cartridge combo A1UC;-)
  18. And there is that gorgeous Well Tempered Amadeuas again:-) My Las are 18' from the back wall and sound great;-)
  19. Hmm, I said that and then Dave said he had lots of Decaying vinyl. I'm sure he is telling the TRVTH since he is actually the first person I've ever known who hears in Zero's & Ones:-) Luv Ya Dave;-)
  20. Richard, I'd go with something like Wake's;-) Love the work on that screenwall Wake. If you going to put in a theatre put in a theatre:-)
  21. I think you girls with all the attitude need to read Art Dudley's stereophile piece this month on whether Audiophiles are snobs and re-asses your post;-) Granted analog is hit or miss because the format has pitfalls of a bad sound nature do to imperfections in material and techniques however the digital format does not have this downfall it still has it's own faults in cutoff/rolloff and the material may not even be present. I like many of you have and hopefully enjoy both formats and realize what both offer in return, I happen to enjoy the ambience and even an occasional snap, crackle, pop and hiss providing it's not excessive because we hear in analog, analog recordings stand to deliver something closer to what we are already used to processing in and with that said I'm also pretty sure none of use hear in digital nor do our brains process in zero's and ones. Not saying we can't but after 57 years and listening to every format known to man I personally still find the vinyl format to be my favorite to sit down and just enjoy the music. My heart lies in DECAY for which no playback delivers better for me than tubes and vinyl, may as well be really good German beer and pretzels:-0 The light once again popped in on me several years back when I finally (and they pretty much stopped making good ones) changed out my car analog cassette player for a new Bluapunkt Mini Disc player. I put together Mini Disc with the same music set recordings as I had on my cassette's and noticed the MD's just left me unsatisfied with playback mind you they had dead quite backgrounds and even with the filters and inherent hiss that goes with the format the cassette always left me wanting to continue to sing the song long after I got out of the car and no digital format(DVD-A/SACD even the infamous DAT which to me was probably my favorite digital)to this day has done that for me:-( In defense of re-issue I think it depends on quality in which you just need to follow some of the analog sites to find out who is doing them the best. I too have bought re-iisues on 180/200gm vinyl that sucked, I have been dissapointed to know end to pay upwards of $30 bones only to get something that is no where near as good as my original even if the pressing was done off the original master tapes the vinyl itself is flawed or the facility has poor recording areas that allow debris to get into the vinyl. then you have sound engineers (don't get me started on these guys)! Some of them bring new meaning to the terms "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but some of these guys can actually get ahold of the original master tapes and still mess them up which should be at minimum a class "B" misdemeanor in itself! Read around on the forums and watch what vinyl junkies are saying, you can get quality re-issues you just have to study up a little. My biggest delight is finding out just doing a really good cleaning to original vinyl sometimes pays the biggest dividends. I have taken good care of my vinyl and after getting a few bad reissues and then deciding to clean my original stuff I have saved myself a ton on dupes. Well in the infamous words of Rodney King "can't we all just get along" Cheers and sorry for snaking on your thread A1UC:-)
