  1. Geoff Muldaur...The Secret Handshake...American Music : Blues & Gospel some great blues on an exellent recording.
  2. Deepest condolences to you and yours Craig. Garth
  3. Dean, sorry bout the nitpicking.[] Just wondered if somehow my autoformers were marked wrong. After struggling for a while to find a good balance with the ALK Jrs, I found that I am really starting to like them at the 5 & 2 setting. I still may try some tweeter attenuators at some point. I am now running a different SS amp. That seems to have helped clean up the HF quite a bit. Meagain, as a new owner of Deans ALK jrs I am following your efforts with interest. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with the forum. Garth
  4. Dean, looking at the autoformer on your drawing, should the 4 not be above the X ? Garth
  5. Not sure why but that photo is on this site. Click on photos at the top of this page, then on "all galleries". It is the very first photo in "the Klipsch galleries"
  6. Michael, it appears that you have inherited your dad's charming sense of humor. Great stuff. By the way, welcome to the forum!! Garth
  7. Best wishes to you Bob. Hope you can get this fixed up soon. Thanks for the update Michael. Garth
  8. So guys, how about some reviews?
  9. Wrench I believe that the PD5-VH is the same as the K-55V (both made by Atlas) The K-55M was made buy Electro-Voice and I think is now discontinued. Garth
  10. You could try them either way before you put them completely back together. Probably not much of a noticeable difference. Be sure to let us know what you think of this mod. Garth
  11. Check out the new pCATS at JuicyMusicAudio.com Great new pics. Congrats Mark!!
  12. I have to agree with you guys on this. Having owned the same Khorns for 25 years, and having made some gear changes, I have not yet heard what could be described as anything jaw dropping etc. (new networks on the way, we'll see) I did experiance that "fatiguing sound' and for many years did not use my system much because of it. Adding a JM Merlin did not make a huge difference to my ears and yet I find myself listening to music much more today than I did before adding the tube pre. The change was subtle but changed my listening habits a lot. That's a good thing. What still blows me away is the huge difference in the quality of recordings. It seems like the very good ones are getting harder to find. Why can't they all sound as good as a Jack Johnson CD? Now there is some jaw dropping recording work IMHO. Garth
  13. Congrats Marvel!!! Looking forward to your pics and review. Are these LS's stock or modded? Garth
  14. While installing my pair of BEC's in my 81 Khorns, I found that clearance to the top plate was fine. I had trouble due to the increased depth of the new tweets. The cross brace on the underside of the top plate is very snug to the back of the tweeter when reinstalled. Anyone else run into this ? Garth
  15. Hi Parrot Actually, subject is not that important. What I really enjoy is the way some of these electrical engineers could weild a pen almost as well as they could a slide rule. Seems as if PWK and his contemporaries took great pride in their prose and could argue with each other while maintaining a civil tone. Fun stuff. Garth
  16. Sunnysal Very well said, couldn't agree with you more. Garth
  17. Thanks for finding this great old thread. Know of any more out there? Garth
  18. My deepest sympathies Rob and family. Hang in there. Garth
  19. DrWho Interesting observation about the reason for the euphoria. My experience has been that when I hear a tune on the radio or someone else's system that catches my attention for musical reasons (it has a great hook), I can't wait to hear it on my Khorns. When I do buy the CD and fire it up I am almost always either very pleasantly surprised (euphoria) or more often than not, dissapointed with the fidelity of the recording even though I really liked the song. So simply looking for new music doesn't always do it for me. The best tunes that I couldn't wait to hear on my system were often a huge letdown due to the "fidelity" of the recording. Hate when that happens, its the opposite of euphoria. But when I find an excellent recording of a tune I like I have to ask myself why all CD's can't sound this good. Why does Jack Johnson sound so incredibly good even though it was recorded in his brother's garage studio? The separation between the instruments is perfect, the acoustic guitars sound better than anything that I've heard before, the overall balance is great. Again, why can't they all be this good. It really can't be that hard. Thanks to Kriton for starting this thread. Most informative. Garth
  20. Duke Could you count me in for a set of plans too? Thanks
  21. These aren't exactly new, but are new to me. If you haven't already done so, check out Geoff Muldaur's "American Music: Blues and Gospel" or 'Password".....good stuff. Garth
  22. Somebody should go and wake up Meagain. []
  23. Wow!! Those look fantastic. Lots of good ideas there. Really like the flexibility in the HF units. Thanks for describing these and welcome to the forum. Garth
  24. Hi Dave I think that the letter "Y" in the serial# would indicate a 1983 model Garth
