  1. OB was the very first person that made contact with me on this forum. My first thought was "wow, what a cranky old man!" He soon became my favorite poster to read, with his polemic stance on things and his biting humor. One of my favorite quotes I attribute to him is "I didn't know my stereo sucked - until I came here." Rest in Peace, Old Buckster -- EH!
  2. Well I'm not as fortunate to have been born the in the '60s, so the popular music from my "younger days" is something along the lines of this: How depressing! I often wonder if good music like that found on the White Album will ever be made again. I'd wager no. Anyway, to celebrate the white album's 40th birthday, Led Zeppelin will be displaced for one month on my avatar. <----------
  3. Youthman, your RF-83 propoganda is getting out of control!! [:#] We didn't even ask the nice man what his budget is. I'd start near the top and suggest something like the Palladium P-37F. That series of speakers will melt your face off, resoldify it and melt it again. They start at $8,000 a pair. You may then need to upgrade your center...... and your surrounds..... then you subwoofer... Yeah, go for the RF-83s [8-|]
  4. Yes, while our friend PWK was hammering away at perfecting one of his many horn-loaded designs, Dr. Amar Bose (or more likely, his sales team) was realizing just how powerful mass-market advertising can be. The most profound aspect of working at a big-box retailer is observing just how brainwashed people become after being subjected to constant messages from one source. I know exactly what tommyboy is talking about when he says "bose was spreading like a disease." It may not be the greatest injustice in the world, but how far can one company go in blinding people from true accuracy of reproduction??
  5. I'm still in shock from the sheer lunacy of the concept.... It appears they revised their original product if you go to their website. http://speedfit.com/
  6. 100 times nicer than 60th anniversary Khorns.... With "very custom" crossovers and new Klipsch "subs." But he shows a wood finish on a Belle and then says that his Khorns are in flat black. and also: "THAT PRICE IS REDICULAS LOW" What??
  7. Ugh... I have far too many stories that sound just like this. I'm half ashamed to show my face in public when I say I work for Best Buy home theater. My one former coworker (a fairly talented singer and not-so-talented 'sound engineer') once directed my customers away from purchasing a Synergy C2 for their F2 set up, and instead reccommended a Bose VCS-10 center. His logic was as follows and I quote: "The center channel speaker is used primarily to reproduce the human voice, and the Bose center channel has smaller woofers, which are much better at reproducing the frequencies of the human voice." We didn't speak much in the following weeks.
  8. I've never given Emotiva a very close look until now... the XPA-5 is almost too good to be true (value wise). Would there be any problem running 2 RF-82s, an RC-35 and two RB-61s with it? 200 WPC seems like too much horsepower (especially for the bookshelves).
  9. I don't know what, but something says "fake" when I watch it. Something with the filming method. I'm probably wrong.
  10. I'm just spitballing here, but have you considered one of Klipsch's larger in-wall speakers as a center? I guess it would depend on how high the TV would be mounted. But just as an idea, have a look at these: http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/r-3800-w.aspx http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/r-5502-w.aspx http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/r-2502-w.aspx http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/kl-6504-thx.aspx
  11. Ear, just stop it! You're scaring the children!!! [] and Jay, remember what Thumper the rabbit said in Bambi? "If you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all."
  12. Yes, if you watch Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, this is one of the few things he hates. That and dehydrated vegan-burgers.
  13. Without "NERDS" none of what we are talking about would even exist! Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you need to trash it. That's why I haven't said a word until now. I'm studying MARKETING! [6][<)]
  14. The moral of the story is that the mice will always win. Eventually.
  15. The only things missing from your list to make yours a "proper" home theater are: 1) A subwoofer (The powered subwoofers section of this forum is chock-full of helpful advice and ideas, ask theEar about his subsonic array or Ricci about his XXX 18 sub [6]). 2) A surround sound receiver (You state that it's an A/V stereo receiver - any idea if it has optical or digital coaxial inputs?) Those two things will round out the package nicely. Enjoy
  16. Well we didn't see YOU catch any fish now did we, Mr. Criticism? [][:#]
  17. Now THAT is marketing! The theme song is incredible: http://heartattackgrill.com/ (Turn up your computer speakers)
  18. There's a reason that you're an engineer and we're not. Such insight...
  19. It seems my first estimation was a bit optimistic... 1,113
  20. I'm not sure what connectors you are referring to... I could guess, but I don't want to be wrong. I have the promedia 2.1s, and they rock. Can you take a quick snapshot of what you are asking about?
  21. The box contains 2,352 tubes. Is that an African swallow or a European swallow?
  22. I vote custom-3s. The over-the-ear design makes it perfect for long-stints of not being able to adjust/remove them. Most importantly, when used with the double-flange ear gels, the sound cancelation is simply fantastic. I use mine in the library when studying and someone sitting by me having a loud conversation on their cell phone is completely inaudible.
