I remember back in '72, I stole a Yes album from the local Farmer Jack grocery store ( they actually had lp's for sale everywhere back then). When I took it home and played it, I thought it was the worst thing I had ever heard. The LP was Time and a Word. I bought a remastered copy of it last year to add to my Yes collection. BTW, that is one sexy looking table!

I always looked forward to Jacksonbart's comments. I always wonder what happened to him.

I read some reviews, and everyone seems to really like it. A couple of things to consider-it's a heavy cartridge, and it tracks at a little heavier weight than most carts That should help with surface noise. It has a fine line nude stylus, which will help get more detail out of the record. It is a low output moving coil , so you will need a phono preamp made for a mc cart, or a seperate step up transformer. Sounds like EAT makes one that would probably be a good match. I think if you bought the whole EAT package you would be very happy with the sound, and wouldn't need to upgrade.

You know I like Oracle turntables, but the Origin has a unipivot tonearm, which I'm not familiar with. Also, to change from 33 to 45 rpm, you have to move the belt to a different pulley, while not necessarily difficult, can still be a pain. It also doesn't have the famous suspension system as their more expensive tables, which can be a problem depending on where you mount the table. On a concrete slab like a basement, it wouldn't be a problem. I think I would rather buy a used Oracle Delphi MK 2 for the same price.

you need a phono preamp, which will use RIAA equalization to make the records sound right. All records are "encoded", and have to be decoded by a phono circuit, along with proper amplification of the signal. If you use a low output moving coil cartridge, you will also need a step up transformer (SUT).

Wow, I got 6 on that list!

I was thinking for your current set-up. Just to see what they sounded like.

The Selenium D-405 isn't very deep, but the magnet is about 6 inches in diameter and weighs 20 lbs. I got a pair I'm not using...

I thought your post on the different cartridges was one of the best ever written. You have great knowledge and a knack for conveying it so us common folk can understand. Thank you for your contributions to this forum.

RIP. Lost another great talent.

I've got a pair of DCM 50's I'm not using right now if you want to give them a try.

Modifying AA crossover to cross at 4500hz
kevinmi replied to geoff.'s topic in Technical/Restorations
I have built a couple, and am currently using them in my highly modded K horns. I like the 4500 crossover because I have substantial high end hearing loss and I can hear the tweets putting out sound. Everything is modded on my speakers, so I wouldn't compare them to anything stock. -
Ok, so I got a pair of K Horns, what's eveyone running amp wise?

Dennis Had Hot Rod Inspire amp, Cary SLP-98P F1 pre. 10 watts of single ended bliss. -
The Teac A-7300 is the home version of that deck. No balanced in/outs and missing a couple other pro features. I'd like to find a mint unit some day.

I have 2 Ampex atr-700 decks. One is 2 track 7 1/2 and 15 ips, one 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 two track. Both have 4 track playback heads also. I also have 2 Pioneer RT- 1050 decks, which are 7 1/2, 15 ips two track. I have a 4 track head stack for it also. I listen to mostly classic rock. All my tapes are recordings I made myself.

quit shopping for vinyl at Salvation Army!

So far, it seems that people who received the Moderna, as compared to Pfizer, had worse side effects. I don't know anyone who has received the J&J. This is just my observation, nothing scientific.

It's getting to the point here in MI where there are some places offering no appointment necessary on certain days for the vaccine. Hopefully there won't be too many nay-sayers, and we can achieve some kind of herd immunity this summer.

SS Amplification for Cornwall III's
kevinmi replied to strictlylespaul's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
This is slightly off topic, but I'll post it anyway. A couple months back, I broke my Cary SLP 98 preamp, which powers a Dennis Had Inspire Hot Rod amp. I had a Pioneer Elite receiver laying around that I bought for a future home theater system. I threw that in place of the tube equipment while the preamp was sent out for repairs. I could not get satisfactory sound no matter what I tried. It has a class D amp, and it doesn't sound good with music. Probably be fine with movies. I ended up buying another SLP 98 to use in the interim ( Cary is backed up 8 weeks on repairs). -
I use it in my ultrasonic lp cleaner.

I got my second shot of the Pfizer vax yesterday. My arm is sore at the injection site, and I'm feeling tired and lazy. But then again, I feel tired and lazy everyday, so not as bad as I had imagined.I'm 65, have a pacemaker, have high blood pressure, cancer survivor. I figured the vax was the best route for me.
