  1. Located in central Arkansas. Have done business with several Arkansas long time forum members. Good guys every one. Seti, gnatnoop, rockhound, jtubbs among them. Some have been in my home and I've been in some of their homes. Would prefer a member local enough to come see and hear them before buying. Reason for selling. Life changes and priorities change with it. Getting my youngest son through last year of college, doing some remodeling on the house, and tubes are not so friendly for my first grandchild (a beautiful granddaughter). Have more audio stuff than I need. These amps are a luxury I can do without for now. I say that because I usually circle around and buy the same thing back some time after I sold it. Sound familiar?
  2. Bought new in March 2014. Wood is mahagony finish. No issues and excellent condition. Original tubes except for the JJ 5ar4 that replaced the original Sovtek 5ar4. Power tubes are the KT-120. 12ax7's and 12au7's are JJ's. Bypass cap/resistor upgrade package. $2200. Would rather sell them local but have original packing if they need to be shipped. Shipping w/insurance would be paid by the buyer. Pics to follow. More pics available upon request Tim
  3. Sometimes when someone wants to sell speakers that they say they like or the room doesn't do justice to them, they really don't sound as good as they were expected to. The fact that you are the third owner raises that question in my mind, as does the early production vintage. Just a thought... Both the second owner and current owner are fellow Arkansans who I've had in my home and done speaker transactions with so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend doing business with both. The seller offers to let you come look and listen before you buy so that kind of takes care of the reason he is selling being an issue. I heard these speakers in the second owner's home. They were impressive.
  4. Thanks. Interesting pair.
  5. What year model does the serial number resolve to?
  6. I've had khorns, chorus II, and rf-7. Khorns by a wide margin. Different class actually in my opinion. 19x20 room, 17ft vaulted ceiling.
  7. I like the chorus 2 better than the cornwall because to me the bass it tighter.
  8. A while back forum member djk gave these instructions for deriving a center channel with a Mcintosh mc2100 amp: PWK had a method of driving a center channel from a two channel amplifer that had output transformers (like your McIntosh MC2100). Hook the Klipschorns to the 4Ω taps for the left and right channels.Hook an 8Ω resistor to the 16Ω tap of the left channel, and another 8Ω resistor on the 16Ω tap of the right channel. Hook the other ends of both these resistors to the wire going to the positive terminal on the Heresy, and the negative terminal of the Heresy to the 'common' terminal (ground) of the McIntosh. Use 25W/8Ω resistors for a 100W~150W McIntosh. This worked great, and thanks to djk. My question now is what resistors would be used to do this with a 50W Mcintosh MC250? Tim
  9. I don’t know, maybe the "B" movie industry as I seem to think of Elvis more in the context of Viva Las Vegas; Blue Hawaii; Girls! Girls! Girls!; Paradise Hawaiian Style; The Trouble with Girls; G.I. Blues; among many other movies ……. His first LP, Elvis by RCA was all covers, like Carl Perkins' Blue Swede Shoes, Little Richard, etc. I don't know that his music influenced anyone musically. It obviously influenced his fans immensely. To name a few: John Lennon: "Before Elvis there was nothing" Bob Dylan: "Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail" Al Green: "Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach. He broke the ice for all of us" Keith Richards: "Before Elvis, everything was in black and white. Then came Elvis. Zoom, glorious Technicolor" Brian Setzer: "I don't think there is a musician today that hasn't been affected by Elvis' music. His definitive years - 1954-57 - can only be described as Rock's cornerstone" Isaac Hayes: "Elvis was a giant and influenced everyone on the business"
  10. Were Klipschorns in the Whitehouse then?
  11. Made contact with seller. These are sold.
  12. Anyone in the DFW area happen to know the seller or anything about these speakers?
  13. No question. One of the best pairings I've heard.
  14. +1 on 12 Angry Men To Kill a Mockingbird Both near the top of my list. So many good ones. Goodfellas hard to beat for a gangster film.
  15. Wonder why he was throwing rocks at them.
  16. Done that before. Is a good feeling it is a simple fix. Bass sure does improve, huh?
  17. Have a question about this unit but I seemed to have lost permission to send a private message. Recent website maintenance?
  18. Nice. I enjoy mine so much. They seem to get better with age.
  19. As usual, Mark has stated the case clearly and logically. I will tell you though that in my experience, if you really want to get into the inner details of the music, listening near-field at lower levels (say 65-75 db) through a low power tube amp can offer a sonic experience that is impossible to beat. Quite a number of my local crowd now listen that way with as little as 1/3 wpc (tubes, of course) and claim that they have never enjoyed music more thoroughly. I do the same with my RF-15s, and did so with my K-horns as well. In the fall I'm going to start developing 3 or 4 flea/low power budget amps (in terms of cost, not sound quality) and will be glad to pass along schematics if you are into building your own gear. Best of luck! Maynard I've been told that the alk es crossovers sound the best loud and they do sound great loud. But I enjoy to the point of chill bumps at times listening to my system with 60 watt VRD's (in push-pull mode) at low levels - low enough that you can carry on a conversation with another person in the room at a normal level. That's pretty low.
  20. I'm having a great experience with the VRD monoblocks I had Craig at Nosvalves build me in April. Like many others here I wouldn't hesitate to strongly recommend them. Running them with walnut '96 khorns w/alk es crossovers and a JM bbx. This is the best system I've ever had. My VRD's are not going anywhere but I would also like to try Bob Latino's st-70 in a second system. I like el34 amps. BTW, I've been remiss on sharing my impressions and photos of the new VRD's here on the forum, but have that on my to do list. Been a busy time lately but in a good way. Tim
  21. Been out the shop as well. Good folks. Have found Bob to be a person of integrity. Very knowledgeable, goes out of his way to be helpful, and no-nonsense. Has good stuff for sale too.
  22. IT data protection for an insurance company.
  23. I agree. I live in central Arkansas too. Last time I was in Hastings there were college kids male and female looking through all the vinly new and used for sale. They were buying too. Both my sons (25 and 19 almost 20) are buying new vinly records and building their collections although neither has a turntable yet. Neither do I but I'm looking. BTW, vinly sales were up 37% nationally in 2013.
