  1. That's probably the Cornwalls... []Not knowing the design of your amp,you might be able to replace just two of the 12AT7s, and get a lot differernt sound. I've found the EH tubes to be a pretty good bang for the buck tube. I have a couple of GE 6201 tubes, that might be able to be swapped for 12AT7s. I don't have a use for them and could send them to you to try if you would like. The 6201s are listed as a substitute, but the ratings are a little different. It would be your call, or perhaps VTL could tell you if they would work. EDIT: I just looked on their website, and noticed that it uses two 12AU7s and two 12AT7s. The 12AU7s are lower gain, and I have a bunch of those (GE and RCA), but I am starting a Dynaco mod that uses the 12AU7s so I want to hang on to most of those until I can check them out. Bruce
  2. Where did you get 13 ply? I did find a place here in Chattanooga for 9 ply, but I haven't priced it yet. Bruce
  3. Mark IS right, again...[] And the poster with the Shar Pei is hilarious!
  4. I only have one real complaint about Safari. You either have the popup blocker on or off. Both IE and FF allow you to let certain sites have popups. To me, this is a deal breaker for Safari. Other than that, it's fine.
  5. FF almost exclusively, even for WIndows updates. I use a plugin called IE Tab for those sites that insist on IE. With the plugin, the sites you specify will run in FF but use the IE render engine. On the Mac, I use Camino, a port of FF to give you more of the Mac interface.
  6. I really don't see how this would be possible. There are recording engineers who can't hear over 13khz, but make superb mixes, often with instruments and overtones far exceeding their hearing range. They aren't sure how they do it, but they do it all the time.
  7. The LS 3/5a was designed as a nearfield monitor, while doing remote recordings and live feeds. To fill a large room with the volume of a symphony, the advantage goes to the Jubilee.Approximately 100k of the LS 3/5a have been sole since its introduction. I would love to have a pair.
  8. You're right, Dave. $110 would have been a good deal. [:#]
  9. The front baffle is just out of the cabinet on its face so you can see the crossover. Here's is a pic of some made by Rogers (the BBC licensed the design).
  10. I think they actually figured out those blew across from Michigan. Very strange...There are spiders way up high on Mt. Everest, too, IIRC.
  11. This link I gave you is for new - they say it is for the Apple laptop, but it IS the TECHWORKS memory.
  12. It is a great version. I also have a James Taylor version, with Mark O'Connor, Edgar Meter and Yo-yo Ma. The Nanci Griffith version is pretty interesting.
  13. Stephen Foster (written 1854) Hard Times Come Again No More Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears, While we all sup sorrow with the poor; There's a song that will linger forever in our ears; Oh Hard times come again no more. Chorus: Tis the song, the sigh of the weary, Hard Times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered around my cabin door; Oh hard times come again no more. While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay, There are frail forms fainting at the door; Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say Oh hard times come again no more. (Chorus) There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away, With a worn heart whose better days are o'er: Though her voice would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day, Oh hard times come again no more. (Chorus) Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave, Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore Tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave Oh hard times come again no more. (Chorus)
  14. Bob, Can you post the two measurements in red? That will make it easy to figure out. Bruce
  15. So, is that a Brother printer? It uses PC133 laptop memory. Why don't you go ahead and get it new. For $70, the 512M has a liftime warranty. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/TechWorks/124750001/
  16. I think the fru-fru curtains balance out the industrial look of the jubs.
  17. My HIIs only have a piece of foam that is placed in a 'U' shape behind the woofer. Didn't see any mold inside... I guess mine have never been damped, dampened.... or who knows what. []Cheers, Bruce
  18. You knew I was kidding you, right? I would love a pair of those 902 drivers, myself, but not yet.
  19. Wrong Oh, sure... but you don't listen at very high volumes either. [] Bruce
  20. Didn't Colter use some black spray paint on some Heresy woofers once. Someone here did... a vinyl top paint or something.. SEM.. something or other. If you do it right you aren't going to add enough mass to tell the difference. Bruce
  21. Tonight- green tea, brewed with water just a bit under boiling. Would prefer some good scotch, but it isn't the weekend yet.
  22. djk had posted a list of all the caps to replace in aging HK430 receivers (maybe the 630) It would be tedious work.
  23. Bob's prices are quite competitive, and his service is exemplary. He also has the gaskets that Marshall mentioned. Listen for a while before you do anything! Enjoy them... As far as the crossovers: Al has newer/updated designs. If you listen to music at higher volume levels, you might find his Extreme Slope designs suit you well. They are pricey, but many feel they need to be cranked to get the best out of them. His universal is nice, although I must admit, the pair I had on loan and used in my LaScalas didn't sound any better to me than the simple ones I built at mu lower cost (DHA2). But I listen at lower levels. Bob's are new builds based on the stock crossovers. They will get your Khorns sounding the way they did from the factory (or better, as his parts are better). They won't put as large a dent in your wallet, either. You can get parts from Bob, to replace the caps yourself, which would save money and 'freshen' them up. But, as everyone else has said... Listen and enjoy first. And... welcome! Bruce
  24. He's a pretty sensible lad. And I do believe him, even though the GHP officer didn't.
  25. Prayer now, and whenever else I am reminded of him. And for you to, my friend! Fifty-four, I remember someone else who left at that age, too.
