  1. <insert head banging on desk here>Where do these reps come up with this stuff? Are they just making things up as they go? Youth and Ibiza gave you great advice...ignore the rep and go with what they've suggested.
  2. Great stories marems and megarock! Love my 3s but if I can ever get my hands on some 4s...that'd be fun.
  3. You are the club Moray. You carried the torch for the Epics long before most of us owned ours.
  4. I have a Monster (got free with sub purchase) and a Monoprice cable. Absolutely no difference. Save the money and buy the cheap cable.
  5. People are incredibly varied and different. Behavior that one person finds distasteful, may be written off by another as someone just being "human" or "young". Taking strictly rock and roll as an example (since it's the one being used), there are a lot of bands/individuals that go through the "sex drugs and rock and roll" lifestyle only to come out the other side with their act cleaned up. I wonder what type of person I would've been if my 17-22 year old self had been surrounded by "yes" men, all the money that I could spend, and access to anything I wanted. I'd hope that the strong values my parents instilled would've prevailed but I'm not naïve as to the pressure and temptation that would've been out there also. For me, I try hard not to judge folks (and maybe that's a cop-out), but I figure if I'm not anywhere near perfect, it's hard to hold someone else to that standard. So, I guess I'm one of those that listens to music because I enjoy it, I feel an emotional connection to it, and I don't need the artist to mimic my beliefs/values at all times. That's not to say that I won't make exceptions and not listen to certain artists due to one reason or another. It also doesn't mean that I don't consider the "ethos" that you're describing, I just weight it differently.
  6. Classification. There's been much discussion on "ethos" of music genres, but none on what classifies as a "rock" or "country" or "rap" or "blues" etc song/artist. Too many songs/artists to count do not fall nicely and neatly into one of these classifications. They often vacillate between genres. There are many examples of this and it's not hard to think of them. So, I ask, who is a rock and roll artist? What is the classification of a rock and roll song? If it's simply assigned to those that fit the "ethos" of the genre, then many songs that others would not call rock and roll are truly rock and roll then. Painting with a black and white brush is easy and convenient, but unfortunately most of the world is varying shades of grey.
  7. OP, do not take the Klipsch website nor the Klipsch reps word as gospel. It is not. Just keep saying that to yourself. I powered a bigger system than you've got on an 85 watt Yamaha for years and it sounded great. Those speakers were also never in danger of being ruined. Right now I'm powering an even larger system on a Denon 4520 which also does not put out 150 watts. You don't need huge watt numbers to safely drive your speakers. Huge watts are nice...don't get me wrong, but you aren't going to ruin your speakers without them. A good 100-125 watt receiver will be fine for what you're needing to power. All the brands above will work fine. We all prefer what we prefer but none of those listed above will let you down. Accessories 4 less will save you money and is a good reputable company that many of us use. Good luck in your choice.
  8. Good luck sir. I'm sure you'll enjoy the next journey as much as putting together this last one.
  9. Really tough news. Grew up listening to the Eagles for as long as I can remember. Count myself lucky to have seen them on the last tour. RIP Glenn.
  10. Moray is a great guy...helped me out with all the mods that I made on my CF3s and graciously answered all my questions along the way.
  11. Yeah the KV4 is much more valuable than the 3. It is on par with the KLF as shiva said. His price range is dead on as well.
  12. Done. Sorry I missed it on the other thread.
  13. Check out the thread on Acoustic Sound Design in this forum. By calling them you'll get their best deal.
  14. Kind of wondered that but I've learned never to assume anything...
  15. I guess we agree to disagree then. Since dialogue and LFE are so important in movies, I'd much rather run mediocre mains with a strong center and sub than the other way around. But, that's my opinion... OP, you've gotten a lot of good advice...now it comes down to you figuring out what you want to do in your room.
  16. By far the two most important home theater speakers are the center and sub. If compromises need to be made, I'd try as hard as possible not to make them with either of those. I have a 12" sub...it's a fine little sub. I've been planning to upgrade it since the day I bought it.
  17. Nice setup rockhound. I too raised mine up and noticed improved imaging as well. To answer your previous question...I'm running mine straight off my Denon 4520. At some point I'd like to hook them up to a separate amp just to hear if it makes a difference. That said its more curiosity than anything as the Denon doesn't seem to have any trouble driving them to ear splitting levels.
  18. Don't get me wrong, the Oppo is great but my answer to your question Zen is "no". That's exactly what I was doing and for the price difference it just wasn't worth it.
  19. Agreed. This is why I sold my 103 and just bought a good BDP. Without using the SACD, the 103 was overkill. Plus picture wise a good BDP is not much different than the 103.
  20. Happy Birthday! Hope it's a good one.
  21. Just another run of the mill Vikings playoff loss. You sort of get used to it after a while.
  22. Congrats...that'll be a great time testing them all out.
  23. Good grief...calm down. There wasn't anything in there worth going postal on. If you don't like a suggestion there's a simple fix...ignore it.
