  1. I had a pair of KG4.2s and ran them with the KG2.2 center. The 4.2s were head and shoulders better than the 2.2 and I could never get the 2.2s to blend well with the 4.2s. I guess it was due to the different horn designs between the two. I would have loved to found one of the floor standing models to run as a center.
  2. One of my favorite receivers I've owned was an HK AVR-7300. It was wonderful. It was probably the most powerful receiver I ever owned. I believe the magazines reported actual output around 120 with 7 channels simultaneous. It was a great sounding receiver and only replaced it in order to add HDMI. I replaced it with an Onkyo TX-SR876. I had so many issues with this unit. From HDMI handshake to video locking up, that I replaced it within a two years. The Onkyo sounded fine, but I was really disappointed with the reliability. The person I sold it to emailed me six months down the road saying the amplifier failed. Since that time, I've been using a Yamaha RX-V3900 which I've never had an issue. Still miss the HK though.
  3. Two 12's will have more output than one 15. The 15 may be able to play slightly lower, but I would go with two 12's.
  4. I actually own a small gym and we keep our music to a moderate level. I would love it to be louder at times, but I understand that we have a wide range of clientele and do not want to offend anyone.
  5. Nice topic. I'm sure there will be quite a few chime in.
  6. Up for sale is a used, but very well-taken care of voltage stabilizer by Monster. The unit was purchased from the original owner and I tested all outlets and everything seems to work like advertised. The last two Signature Series units sold on Ebay went for $629 including shipping and the other for $797 plus $42 shipping. I'm offering this one for much less. The AVS 2000 is a very well-rounded power product providing virtually every feature the complex hometheater needs, minus battery backup. The AVS 2000 is a surge suppressor, AC noise reducer and voltage stabilizer all in one and retails for the middle of the road price of $1,499.95. The AVS 2000 has a total of six outlets, four switched and two un-switched, located in the rear of the unit and color-coded to ensure the proper connections. The AVS 2000 also comes equipped with a hard-wired, eight-foot Monster power cable, which is about as thick as a python and equally as stubborn. The front of the AVS 2000 is littered with flashy lights and three digital meters that indicate your system's incoming voltage, voltage correction and total amperage. The AVS 2000 is designed to provide your system with the appropriate 120 volts from a standard AC wall outlet by employing an internal transformer that can step up and boost the power output if the AVS 2000 senses sag between 80-140 volts. If the AVS 2000 senses a huge voltage swing that it cannot deal with, then it will shut your system down to better protect it from negative power effect

  9. Okay. You will love the Yamaha. It is a great receiver from 8-10 years ago. The only thing it is missing is HDMI. Now on to the Pioneer. Have you tried to play it in stereo only? If the right channel is still not working you will have to use one of the other channels on the right side to get a stereo channel in zone 2. Does the receiver have an option to run 5 or 7 channel stereo? If so, use the right rear channel input for the right speaker in zone 2.
  10. It does look to have been re-labeled with a different speaker. Klipsch was very proactive a few years ago protecting their dealers by cracking down on those who sold at deep discounts on Ebay which was against their Dealer agreements.

  12. I would definitely be up for it. I originally stored all my CDs on itunes at 256k and I've been wanting to redo everything in a lossless format. I haven't had the patience or time
  13. Most of the MTV Unplugged Favorites: Alice in Chains Peal Jam Nirvana 10,000 Maniacs I also enjoy: Tori Amos Norah Jones Diana Krall James Taylor
  14. Extremely good build quality! Nice job!
  15. I'm actually thinking about keeping these for my daughter who is turning 16 in a couple of months and has been bitten by the vinyl bug. I've been thinking about putting together an expensive setup together for her.
  16. How much space are you willing to give up? Or, should I ask if you have a preference for size? What about new or used? I would recommend the following brands: Velodyne, HSU, SVS, Klipsch, Rel, Paradigm and there are a few others For a good used one in your price range and for your room size - Velodyne HGS-12 or SPL-12 or, older Paradigm Servo-15, you can also find some older SVS cylinder subs. I'm sure plenty of folks here can recommend a good Klipsch sub for you.
  17. A lot of car audio subs are just as good in the home. The difference is the recommended enclosures in a car are designed with higher q with the assumption you will have cabin gain of 6 db for the lower frequencies. Place the same sub in a larger enclosure and the frequency curve flattens and lower frequency extension improves. Yes, there are some car audio subs that are designed more toward spl, but there are plenty that are designed for SQ especially when you give them the airspace. Typical pre-fab ported car enclosures are tuned quite high 36-40hz. I don't like boxes tuned that high. JL and Image Dynamics typically recommend somewhere between 28-32 hz for audiophile ported enclosures. The last enclosure I made featured 2 12W3's tuned to 27hz. Big box and big port area, It was used in an suv.
  18. Up for sale is a set of Synergy speakers I picked up today and thought I would pass them on to someone who needs them. First, are two Synergy SLX speakers with mounting brackets. These speakers are in great condition. I did see a small hole in the grill cloth, maybe an 1/8" on the side of grill and a little scuffing around the mounting brackets. The C2 is in excellent condition with no noticeable flaws. The S2 Surrounds are in great condition with the exception of two small holes in the grill cloth of one speaker. Both are on the top edge and not noticeable when mounted. Other than that they are just about perfect. Synergy SLX - $65/ea. or $130/pair Synergy C-2 Center - $60 *SOLD* Synergy S-2 Surrounds - $100/pair
  19. Actual sales of KG 4.5s and 4.2s are in the $200 plus shipping range. Which I believe is an excellent value. They perform as good as speakers costing new in the $1,000-$1,500 range today. Plus, they have real wood veneer. I would see if you could negotiate him down a little, but even at $300 you are getting a heckuva pair of speakers.
