  1. I would buy the best Rega your budget will allow. Not much under a grand can touch a well set up Rega. They run a little fast, but that adds to the liveliness they are known for. Oh, and stay away from Bluetooth in a vinyl rig. That should go without saying.............. Shakey
  2. All this talk about movies and home theater. Well there are some of us that don’t give two sh$&s about car crashes, explosions, and Dino stomps. I’m not saying they are all that way, but many ported subs are one trick ponies. I really like what my HSU sub does with music with both ports sealed. But I think I am going to send it back and get a pair of smaller ULS-15s. I’m just looking to augment the cornwalls and the HSU does just that. SVS was on the list too and I’m sure their SB series do justice to music too. Shakey
  3. Horn loaded gets a pass. The klipschorn bass bin was the best bass I have heard except for OB bass. But standard ported subs are what I was referring to. Not sure what IB is though. Shakey
  4. The real question is this. With all the good integrated amps on the market today, tube AND SS, why would you want to use a receiver of any kind? Shakey
  5. But my point is that klipsch doesn't make a sealed sub, which I think we can all agree is the best design for reproducing music. Shakey

    .

A TVC is a very good sounding preamp. I used one for many years. Shakey
  7. I would like to know the answer to this riddle. What sealed sub does klipsch make that competes with other sealed subs in its price range?
  8. My suggestion is to get them "near" the back wall, but away from corners. They can get a little boomy if too close. 8-10 inches seems to be a good starting point. Toe them in so they fire "just" in front of your head. Shakey
  9. 1) Hum. I occasionally have low-level hum (especially when I roll tube amps in) and it drives me crazy. Is there a gear-related fix for this like a new power conditioner? This is likely a product of noisy transformers coupled with very efficient speakers. I doubt a power conditioner will help. 2) The sound overall can sometime be a little brash. I sit pretty close to the speakers (9’ or so) so I am sure that doesn’t help. This can be ameliorated (but not eliminated) by better crossovers. I have owned Bob's cornscalas and the xover is one of the weak points. You can also try to dampen the mid horn with dynamat or modeling clay. What you are hearing is the early arrival time of the midrange driver. Attenuating the mid a little will help. 3) Low bass is underwhelming (I am almost certain this is the room and will try to rearrange, also try to sit further back) Could be a room issue. But remember these speakers aren't designed to give you true low bass. 4) Imaging is OK, not pinpoint (I had some smaller multidriver speakers a few years ago and the imaging was much better for sure) - I really like the sensation of being able to tell where an instrument is placed - and that it has a consistent size... Again, not a forte of this design. But sitting further back for better driver integration and spreading them further apart will help with this. Shakey
  10. I've heard Fortes sound good in several rooms that are smaller than his. And the appearance is just fine. It appears as though his room will be dedicated to audio, so all the better. Shakey
  11. Fortes would be a good fit for that room. Go for the IIIs. Shakey
  12. Yeah I think 20 ft is just about optimal.
  13. A big deal? Seriously..........? Neither you or your now departed speakers are a blip on my radar.........
  14. Not sure exactly what you mean, but I assure you the CWIV has none of the cabinet issues that bob crites cabinets do.
  15. One thing I would suggest is to ditch Spotify for Quobuz or Tidal. Not quite the same depth in their catalog but far better sound. Shakey
  16. I’m not sure you’ll ever completely remove the issues as long as you have a removable back wall In the cabinet.
  17. I know two people who have fortes in similar rooms as yours. One is an original forte, the other forte IIIs. Both work great. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it. Shakey
  18. Just because you think it's ok to add extra crap to the signal chain, doesn't mean everyone does. Being smug seems to be your modus operandi......... Shakey
  19. I just wanted to revive this thread to say that I purchased an Hsu VTF-15 II to pair with my cornwalls. Hope to have it in a week or so and I’ll report back. Oz
  20. I think he means you should buy one each of these things post haste.............
  21. So I can commission you to build one for me? 😀
  22. I would much rather address acoustics issues with passive room treatments rather than digital room correction, but that's just me. I'm a "less is more" kinda guy when it comes to the signal chain. Shakey
