  1. I did just the opposite going from an old Denon receiver to Marantz separates for HT and am very happy with the results. I don't think the real point was going from a receiver to separates, or adding power, but rather from mediocre to really good sound in better components. I'd want to hear the results of installing the new receiver before making a final decision. I haven't heard any Emotiva products (just read various comments, some good and some not so good) but perhaps their return policy will give you time to have an in-home audition of the new receiver. Since you now have Emotiva, perhaps you could also do some comparisons with other brands. Good luck.
  2. Your story does my heart good!! You have every right to be proud, and we are proud of you. Well done.
  3. Advanced stuff - "Your expectations of this crowd to deal with their grammatical mistakes, where they're making their mistakes, are too high presently. You're too demanding of these guys right now." "Wait for their second round of demerits where there are mistakes." Chris Richard - here's your answer: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/words/a-historic-event-or-an-historic-event Least ways, sum body 'roun here got hisself gud inglush. Him 'n me we be edicated.
  4. You don't need to be a bass head to put a sub with Heresys. They are great speakers (I've had 2 pairs, plus Cornwalls, plus, etc.) but benefit a lot from an extended lower end, especially for Home Theater. And, of course, welcome!!
  5. I have as much problem with the jerky, smart a** comments the OP made in the other thread as I do anything. It's the general absence of guys like that which make me willing to participate in this forum.
  6. please note my edit. it was funny in my head, when contrasted against his preference for the klipsch forum's congeniality. in my defense, I've been with a whiny toddler and needy 2 month old all day. Peace, brothers!! I got the joke ...
  7. I used to post on Audiogon once in a while but not much these days. It lacks the congeniality of this forum and I don't much care for it.
  8. This will be a good buy for someone. Sad that you had to stop playing your instrument. That day will come for me too, eventually. I try not to think about it. Good thing we have other outlets!!
  9. Pictures will help a lot. My dad had a single K-Horn which sounded great. Wish I had it today.
  10. The real hope for vinyl (long term) is a sufficient interest in obtaining "tangible" music by the young folks. There would have to be a big enough market among them to make it economically feasible for guys like the one in the article to invest in new facilities or even maintain existing record producing plants. I guess there's hope.
  11. I've always read the reviews - especially the gushing, over-the-top ones - with a great suspicion that the item "reviewed" was going to remain in the reviewer's personal system gratis. That said, and assuming I'm right in some cases, I guess I'm not surprised at the companies for taking advantage, but I just don't trust the integrity of some reviewers.
  12. Interesting, Schu. Thanks. Probably explains why my RW 12-D adds so much to our HT which has KLF-30's.
  13. I was thinking about it during the day, but "Sam" never came to mind..... My best guess was Elmer Fudd. I agree with Sam, though, hasenpfeffer is great!!
  14. Lots of good suggestions in this thread. If ya want to have some "historical" fun, get some old Hank Williams, Sr. compilations with songs like "Moanin' the Blues." I did and even learned to play a few of them. Not Texas stuff but Hank probably influenced everyone who followed. He crossed genres with blues, honky tonk, country, etc.
  15. If I'm reading your underlying concern right, I think you were asking if perhaps someone might have "re-engineered" this pair by remounting the internal parts and whether that would affect performance. Did that question get answered? I'd want to know that too. If I'm not reading your post correctly, then please disregard.
  16. It's not surprising that most of the musicians I've talked to about stereo over the years love Klipsch speakers. A great horn loaded speaker is much closer to the real thing than other speaker builds.
  17. That's great. Too many kids just don't know the difference. When you know the difference, you have choices.
  18. It's not dead in our home!! I will admit that the convenience of cd's makes it a format we use less than half the time. On the other hand, the sound of good vinyl is a real pleasure I do not want to lose. Just got a couple of new LP's off the Bay. Cheers,
  19. We "forum veterans" need to maintain a certain amount of swagger and at least act like we know a bunch of "stuff" whether we do or not!! (This could be a problem, however, if someone asks us a serious question).

Another trip around the sun. Kick it off with a great day!!
  21. Peggy Lee certainly comes to mind. Sweet Emma comes to mind for old New Orleans jazz. And ... someone else may know the name ... but Turk Murphy's San Francisco Jazz Band had a fine female vocalist who did such songs as 'Cake Walkin' Babies.' Many more I'm sure. Cheers.
  22. I agree and that's why I cross over in the range Chris mentions. Of course, my HT mains are KLF-30's and they dig pretty deep to begin with. Somewhat different story if I was using main speakers that crapped out below 60 Hz.
  23. That's exactly it. Smart management would train all its people to react positively whenever a customer shows up with money in hand and wants to buy ... or at least seek out a higher level employee and try to accommodate the customer. Too much to ask?? Apparently so. Bad business?? Yep.
  24. Nice gift. Happy B-day. One of these days, I'll let loose of the purse strings and get a new table. Thanks for sharing, Chad. Chuck.
