Condolences ... strength to you and the family

Haha ... warning to prospective buyers above. And @wvu80 has a pair of CF4's v1 ... and is extremely knowledgeable

Haha ... yes; building, but have not exactly decided "what." Bit easier in my case since I am only looking for the woofer section (bass-bin) as I will be using my K-510 hrorns with B&C DE75 drivers for 500Hz and up. But ... can't even make up my mind between single or dual woofers; 12 or 15" Some scatterbrain thoughts in ...

Tube amps: Getting ones feet wet looking for some advice
Emile replied to Alexander's topic in Talkin' Tubes
Dipped into the same pool and got out after about 3 months Bought a Dynaco ST-70 clone kit for about $1100. Was impressed for maybe a couple of weeks (haha; "had to be impressed" after spending that kind of money). Then did some A/B comparisons with my vintage Marantz 1060 (30wpc) ... the Marantz won ... the Dynaco clone was anemic. OK; apologies to the tube fans here many swear by these setups. Maybe I just never got it dialed in right One more thing to consider ... most tube amps only have ONE input. So, if you use more components, add a pre-amp to your budget Cheers, Emile -
Just guessing ... serial number 22259 means build in early August 1995 ... which makes them Version 2 (or even 3's). One of the earlier pictures showed the short ports which confirms this. He will have to check the wiring to make sure they are "2's" (clear wiring). Version 3 is the black sheep of the series. Nice looking, but not worth the astronomical price that Madman thought he was looking for. $1500 seems fair IF they are v2's FYI; I am no longer looking for CF4's ... bass is good on these but still doesn't compare with the bass from PRO woofers. Therefore building a set. Cheers, Emile

No room is "too small." You just might have to "turn it down" a bit. Have KPT-904's in my main (OK; large) room ... awesome Have tried varies PRO speakers in my smaller stereo room ... all were incredible ... OK; some where over-powering, but that's part of the fun
-
Haha ... ordered several items from them and orders were cancelled. VERY disappointed

Think the old consoles are really fun. Got a Telefunken console and put a Marantz 2252B in it and replaced the speakers with RF-3 horns and woofers. Sounds pretty good "Pre" pic below ...

Location, location? Black, walnut or??

Haha ... not judging your "size" No; haven't bought any woofers yet. Was looking at the Eminence Pro series. Any pro speakers I heard (and owned) are just so much more powerful (and to me more defined) than "home" speakers. DIYsound 12" box is 26x14.5x15 ... quite a bit smaller then the Forte's at 36x15.5x12 (about 20% larger). That's why I thought I might be able to use the Forte box just as a bass bin with a better pro woofer. BTW; got a 15" subwoofer kit from PE based on your recommendations. Pretty sure these are the same. Awesome. Easy assembly ... Of course had to veneer it for the WAF Haha; not looking forward to building from scratch ... only as a last resort (Getting older ...no fun hauling 4x8ft panels.) Many thanks, Emile

Thank you SIR ... OK; scratch the CF3's off my list Don't need "chest-thumping," but my Forte's are just anemic (OK; when I compare them to pro speakers), Still hoping to find a yes/no answer on replacing the woofers with pro's in my Forte's ... but hate to spend $200 just to "try" it Yes; did look at DIYsound. Very interesting, but "stuck" with their woofer ... and the 12" box seems a bit small Jeez ... continuing ... but guess these are good problems to have Cheers, Emile

Welcome to the forum Sounds awesome ... haha; we need pics! BTW; you may want to try some Klipsch PRO speakers. I upgraded to some and with the XLS amps they are in a different league

OK; bit lost now @ClaudeJ1's "double" Super Heresy's (haha; obviously) seems to be the best way to go. But, hope I can ask some stupid questions just "to learn," as I am not up to the level of you guys First; still looking at the CF3's, v3 ... is this a terrible solution as these just won't get me the output of "pro" woofers??? Second; have this set of Forte I's ... how about just putting "pro woofers" in those (and of course forgetting about the horns since I've got the 510's)??? Third; since this system is in a "small" room, how about just a set of single Super Heresy's (again bypassing the horns)??? It's probably obvious from the above "simple" solutions that I am trying to avoid building new boxes Many, many thanks! Cheers, Emile

Claude, Apologize if you feel this way Just wasn't ready yet to start "sawing" and "needed" a little more discussion. Regards, Emile

Awesome ... have seen those when I was playing with "my" console ... just don't remember the brand Go got it ... pretty cool
-
John, thanks! But have "no clue" what that means Could you explain? Many, many thanks, Emile

Found these Eminance Delta 12LFa's ... good price at $67 ... haha, especially since I have to buy four ... https://www.parts-express.com/b-stock-eminence-delta-12lfa-12-low-frequency-speaker-8-ohm-plain-box--299-2351 ... "B" stock without a box - who cares Appreciate your thoughts! Cheers, Emile

Jason, Thanks! Shows Vtot = 3.5 cuft. So in my case I'd go to 7 cuft or roughly 18x18x36 which is "doable" in this small room OK; assume Vtot is INTERNAL dimension, without the ports? Cheers, Emile

Haha ... didn't think it was that easy But now I know, don't have to buy $100 software. Thanks!

Jeez; joined in 2017 ... 40 years after I got my first Cornwall's ... hope to make it another 20 years to collect a prize
-
Haha ... have one of these Sony 1000's ... very good picture quality ... of course that's on my "old" Panasonic Plasma ... didn't even remember it was 4K

Interesting Thinking about building a dual 12" bass bin to add to my 510 horns. But ... if bidding, don't forget about the ripoff shipping charge of $70+

Hi All, Hoping to get some advise. Trying to duplicate the sound of my KPT-904's (OK; get "close" to their sound) for use in a small (12x12x8') stereo room. Have an extra pair of K-510's (w/ B&C 75 drivers) which I will use separately (via DSP) with these bass bins. Tried finding CF4's, but no luck. Still talking with a CF3 seller, but the guy is a major pain ... wants top dollar for a "version 3" set, which is the worst of the series. So; why not build a couple of boxes? Thinking ported/slotted, very roughly 18x16x36", of course with pro woofers. Would like the box to go down to say 40Hz. Upside is taken care of by the 510 horns, kicking in at 500-600Hz. Looking at Eminence Delta 12LFC ( https://www.parts-express.com/eminence-delta-12lfc-12-driver-4-ohm--290-464 ), but I am sure you may have better suggestions Just picked up a Crown XLS 402 (300wpc at 8Ohms) to drive them. OK; have NOT found any design plans and also NO calculator for dual woofer bins. Appreciate your help Many thanks, Emile Add-on ... yes, know you will recommend something like KPT-684's ... unfortunately just do not have room for those beasts

Haha ... bought the last one of these (w/o a box) for $120
-
Go get it But, be aware ... some of these offerup sellers are a pain in the a$$. (Bought a Crown amp yesterday from offerup ... just got a message with "seller changed his mind; he is keeping it." ) Good luck!
