  1. College football, perhaps, but Knute Rockne acolytes would disagree. All of football, no way. He was a bust in the pros.

    Jokes?

Shakespeare was clever, but I find John Greenleaf Whittier.
  3. I agree with @billybob above. Furthermore, the metal corners will be a turn-off to some buyers. Whether the “protectors” have done their job leaving solid veneer beneath, or they are hiding damage, there will be holes in the veneer if the corner plates are removed. GLWYS

    Jokes?

Chan was a poor farmer in Asia. To supplement his meager income from farming, he gathered teakwood to be sold in the village market several day’s journey from his home. One morning, he tied up two heavy bundles of teakwood to take to market. Chan kissed his wife and children before setting off for the market. After walking all day, Chan found a suitable spot to spend the night. He was glad to lay down the heavy bundles. After a small meal he fell asleep. In the morning Chan awoke to find the teakwood bundles missing. Where the bundles had been, Chan saw the footprints of a child. He followed the footprints for hours, puzzled by how a child could carry those heavy bundles. After several hours of tracking the footprints, Chan crested a rise and saw a short distance ahead a large bear with a bundle under each arm. To his amazement, the bear had small deformed paws resembling a child’s foot. The mystery of the missing wood was solved. There was a boy-foot-bear, with teak of Chan.

    Old eyes

Had cataract surgery on my right eye on Wednesday. The color difference is remarkable, as most predicted. So far no problems. I get the left eye done a week from Wednesday. I wish I’d done this sooner.
  6. My favorite Greek restaurant in Chicago is The Athenian Room on Webster near Halstead in Lincoln Park.
  7. Thank you Bruce. Again through this forum I have been introduced to an artist previously overlooked by me. My embarrassment at not knowing who she was is more than offset by the enrichment of knowing of her now.
  8. I take it you are not familiar with Heather Cox Richardson.
  9. “Pair of Klipsch Klipschorns $1,500.” Taken from the ad.
  10. As @JBCODD said above, wear a mask and gloves when cleaning up rodent droppings. My nephew was hospitalized recently with a life threatening virus (leptospirosis) contracted while cleaning up a rats’ nest in Chicago.
  11. Although not his fault, Bowden was the motivation for Paterno’s downfall. RIP Coach Bowden. Joe Paterno, not so much.
  12. I assume the squawker horns are also missing. Assuming the availability of a suitable squawker horn, I like the all Crites solution. Please don’t use a 12” woofer.
  13. More than nine years later my opinion is unchanged. @Fomoco69
  14. Not the greatest photos.
  15. Amazing! Where did you find a lumbar belt large enough to fit the bubble?

    Old eyes

I prefer glasses to contacts, they hold more beer. I recently saw an ophthalmologist for a cataract workup. It seemed like I was talking to a used car salesman. He told me I should get the deluxe lenses that add thousands of dollars, and that I needed to act quickly as the prices were going up. I then consulted another ophthalmologist recommended by a friend with monocular vision. I figured if you can only see with one eye you must have a lot of confidence in your ophthalmologist to get cataract surgery. The second doctor was way better than the first. When I told him I needed a second opinion, he said, “OK, you’re ugly too.” (An homage to Rodney Dangerfield and my late father.) I’m scheduled to get the first eye done in a month. The second guy recommended the basic lenses, rather than the X-ray vision lenses from the old comic books. If my distance vision is corrected, I’ll gladly use readers as needed.
  17. My ophthalmologist recently cautioned me against subjecting these old eyes to inversion. Actually, I asked, “So, boxing’s out?” To which he replied, “Yes, and so is inversion.”
