  1. Wow Dale, Don't enjoy yourself to much. We wouldn't want that now would we Peace, Josh
  2. Check out your other (tannoy monsters)thread Peace, Josh
  3. I've always liked the speakon connector: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&SO=2&&DID=7&CATID=39&ObjectGroup_ID=127 The nice thing about the 4 pole version is you can use it to bi-wire with only one jack. They also are nice in that thay are a twist lock connector so you have to deliberately unplug them and they won't accidentaly pop out. The speakon seems to be a very cool (tempature wise) connector. Just my two cents Peace, Josh
  4. Hi, You wanted opinions so I'll give you mine. I do not have near as much listening experience as some of the people on this forum but I do love the LaScala speaker. If it were me I would try every option available to keep the LaScala's. I had a Chance to buy some at a very decent price about a year ago but I was living at home and thought, Well I don't really have the space for these. Ever since then I've been wishing I had gone ahead and bought the LaScala's. Like you said, you just hear parts of a CD you didn't realize were there. My mind has been going crazy wondering if a chance to get some at a cheaper price is going to ever come along again. I just recently purchased a pair of heresey and they sound great but still not like those LaScala's. If I had the chance again and I didn't have the space right now I would propably pay for them and put them in storage. Oh well just my two cents. btw congrats on being engaged and all that. Peace,Josh
  5. Glad to hear you are happy. The heresey really is an incredible speaker. Sounds like you got a nice amp. There is nothing wrong with free stuff Peace, Josh
  6. I managed to grab a number of tubes out of some radio and oscilloscope type gear that was being thrown out at the college my dad works at. I haven't had time to catalog them yet but I'm pretty sure I have a number of 12AX7 12AT7 12AU6 and a bunch of others that I don't remember. Right now they are packed in tissue paper in a box at my parents place. I should be able to go through them all when I go home for thanksgiving break, I'll propably try and hold onto most of them but if there is anything rare that somebody needs I'm sure we could arrange something(if I have anything worthwhile). Peace, Josh
  7. Wow 38Hz, way to step up to the plate there buddy. I may be off on this but I think that the low B string on a five string bass is about 35Hz. Lol, that would mean you couldn't even hear a good portion of the bass players out there these days seeing as how five, six and even seven string basses are becoming more popular. If it can fit in a bag then you can take it with you, why buy a walkman when you could have the subterranean sounds of an acoustimass in a bag on your back Peace, Josh
  8. IMHO the bass on the heresy is hard to describe, its there and it is clean yet not round nor epecially deep. Nonetheless I still am quite pleased with the sound the heresy produces, while not as fat on the low end as my JBL L46's they are much cleaner sounding at very loud volumes. Yesterday at church our organist played a piece after the recessional on the pipe organ that realy shook the building with the low notes, some of these notes I couldn't realy hear(and I can hear pretty low) but I could still feel them Peace, Josh
  9. It is as if He feels guilty about selling these because... Peace, Josh
  10. I have some '81 heresy's running from my Yamaha HTR-5540 reciever. I really like the heresy but I must say if I had the money and the space I would go for a pair of LaScala's at the drop of a hat. Still the Heresies rock like crazy for a speaker their size. btw, I'm in Orlando FL. Peace, Josh
  11. Thanks there edster, That means they are as old as I am Woohoo. Peace, Josh
  12. I got my Heresies 2 days ago and about all I have done since then is listen to music. I went to class and things like that of course, but even when I got back from tgifridays the other night at about 1 in the morning I played some music, I just can't get over how good they sound Some of the cds(no vinyl...yet) I've been listening to are: Ben Folds "Rockin the Suburbs Miles Davis "Birth of the Cool" Steve Miller "Wide River" Red Hot Chili Peppers "By the Way" Brooks Williams "Skiffle Bop" Although I'm sure tubes would be incredible with these speakers, for now I am quite happy(no phono input though) with my Yamaha receiver. For Its price range it has relatively speaking low wattage(75wpc)that is very clean with fairly low thd. As of yet the Heresies are still sitting on the floor, I'll propably build some speaker stands when I go home on christmas break. The speaker stands should be able to aim the speakers right at my eardrums For those of you who understand these things here are my serial numbers: 127W278 127W279 If someone knows when these were made that would be cool, not that whether or not I know changes the sound any The Heresies are certainly more sensitive then My little JBLs, although the JBLs do have slightly more deep bass the heresies stay clean sounding at loud(annoy the neighbors, call the cops, get kicked out of my apartment loud) volumes I built a new rack for my stereo gear yesterday, I hope to have pictures of my setup soon. Oh well I've got to go to class although I think we're covering game console history tonight Peace, Josh
  13. Fear not Justin, My Heresies just came a few minutes ago and they sound nice. I would think that the ProMedia amp is going to sound rather odd on anything other than the PM satellites, thats what it was made to drive, not "real" speakers. The Heresies are certainly real speakers, on my three hundred dollar Yamaha reciever they sound (to my ears)Fantastic. I can only imagine what they will sound like once I get some tubes for my turntable. btw, wouldn't running them off the ProMedia amp mean that they were only getting mid and high frequency signals due to the crossover in the amp-sub unit?? Just be patient and wait for a good amp to come along Peace, Josh
  14. Mobile, What would be a good price on an EICO HF-81?? I've been thinking about tracking one down once my Heresies get here(tommorow I hope)and using it with my JBLs or the Heresies in a two channel setup with a TT. I know the older tube amps tend to need some work but, my dad(marvel) is a pretty good electronics technician. So I may be able to convince him to help me on any necessary upgrades as long as I pay for parts(and don't flunk out of college ) Thanks for any suggestions you might have. Peace, Josh
  15. Well it looks as if I'll be buying some linseed oil for my walnut jbl's. They have seemed a little dry ever since I got them used a year or so ago. I just wasn't sure what to use. My jbl speakers also have two or three screw holes in the sides,(they were hung in a caffeteria) any ideas on how best to fill these?? I was thinking color matched wood putty that would blend with the walnut. I may wait till I have more time just so I can be sure I do a good job Peace, Josh
  16. Oh yes, we must not forget the "aluminized" cones on these speaks, thats why they can out perform "any" Klipsch speaker Peace, Josh
  17. Some guys offered me the same "good" deal about a week ago right after I had ordered my heresies. They had their white van disguised as a black suburban lol. I got the same story(extra speakers, boss, half an hour blah blah). I told them that I had a stereo and I did not have the money for whatever it was they were selling. Then the little punk had the nerve to ask me how much money I had in my bank account I told him that it was none of his business and he said "I know that but i mean like how much do you have" I said what part of "NONE OF YOUR FREAKIN BUSINESS" don't you understand. I said do you have a retail licence?? Then all of a sudden:White van Co(disguised as Black Suburban Co.) exits stage left LOL was'nt about to buy any of what they were selling. To top it off he said these my$tery speakers would "out perform any Klipsch" I guess he's never heard of the almighty Khorn. Oh well just be wary of fraud. Peace, Josh
  18. Children, can we spell Tinnitus?? Peace, Josh
  19. This is unfortunately the case, where a Good system makes it easier to spot the flaws in a recording. I've noticed that with some albums that I can leave the eq flat on my receiver while listening to them, these albums sound good at any volume. Other cd's I have to fiddle with the bass and treble to get it to sound "just right". Unfortunately on vinyl records there can still be bad mixes, although the wider frequency response of vinyl can make up for some of this. It all depends on how they recorded it I guess. Still imho there is nothing quite like listening to some Miles Davis or John Coltrane, on an even halfway decent turntable setup. But I'm not an auidophile I just enjoy listening to music Peace, Josh
  20. Here's that canned response, HAHAAHAAAHAAAHAA, This is what i got back from Bo$e: "Dear Mr. Brown, Thank you for your inquiry. Bose does not publish these specifications. The reason for this is that we believe that such statistics do not add very much to an understanding of an audio product's acoustic characteristics and, even worse, can be misleading. Audio manufacturers make these measurements independent of industry standards, and in varying conditions. Additionally, a single statistic is not a reliable measurement of a product's performance. One could, for instance, find a very expensive system with exactly the same specifications as a much less expensive system. On paper, the two would appear identical. The difference in performance, however, would be significant. A better approach, we feel, is to listen to the product. We strongly urge you to make your own comparisons. Bose systems will surpass your expectations. Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation." "The difference in performance, however would, be significant." It certainly is significant, the $2800.00 Bo$e system I played with and mocked at bestbuy last night had a midrange response best described as more grainy than a walk on the beach. The bass was this monotone bump bump not unlike that of someone driving by in a honda civic with a couple of 12"s in the trunk. I know my system is not anywhere near an audiophile reference system, but at least I have a smooth midrange and fairly well defined clean bass. Did I mention that I didn't pay anywhere near $2800.00 for my stereo. Oh well as they say "Better sound through marketing" btw, play any clean Miles Davis recording through some bose and you can hear that trademark bose sound clear as day. Whew(gets off of soapbox), Peace, Josh
  21. Interesting, I've also heard that 33 1/3 flat disc records were originaly released by RCA in 1931 but due to the depression people were not to keen on buying new turntables just to listen to new music. 33 1/3 was re-released by Columbia in 1948 and this time it was a keeper. Peace, Josh
  22. Are those just the horns w/o the drivers? Peace, Josh
  23. Try here, www.jamminjersey.com They usually have a bunch of used parts for sale. Peace, Josh
  24. My overall impression was not that the cabinet was resonating so much as the cabinet itself was "floating" on the goofy plush carpet in my apt. The cabinets seem to be 3/4" mdf with that nice jbl walnut veneer They measure 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 20 3/4" (wdh) I didn't notice that much sound from behind them (even at that "making your neighbors call the sherrif volume")so I think that they are pretty solid. As to the different types of sand, thats silly why would that matter. But for My purposes the white paving stones definitely produced a better sound than the terra cotta colored stones Any way I'll be rearranging everthing today or tomorrow when my heresies get here. I'll propably refinish them in a dark walnut stain because everyone knows walnut stain sounds better Peace, Josh "gets a kick out of sarcasm" Brown
