  1. Just to weigh in, I bought my Academy from someone who was selling Klipsch for B&Ws. Two channel, B&W was truly awesome. Though he sold me his Academy, he did so with admitted reservations that he was giving up a better, cheaper center just to have a dream two-channel system.
  2. One word: Patina. You want PATINA! Those WAF weenies will say to refinish to NOS but that old varnish look will never be duplicated. I'd say to get them at least presentable with as little work possible. You have great-looking speakers there! Concentrate on mechanics and sonics and let them all criticize. ("Another country heard from.")
  3. Lemme know what you get back. I have two 400s, an 800-B or C (I forget, but it is the better one), 50B (tuner) and this little 30-A with 2.5 ohm output. They are all in original condition. 'Hooked up the 800 this Spring. The tuner is outstanding! I understand my 800 is the best of the receiver lot with the 500-C a close second or tie (some think better than the 800). I sometimes think of selling them, then I come to my senses.
  4. I didn't edit my post. Maybe the moderator did. Perhaps the link to the dictionary site was the problem. I though it was smarmy to offer it and then reneg on the offer when he got an "overwhelming" response.
  5. Audiogon has plenty of NADs. I might "go NAD" with my old 3020 and ST-70 to my Academys, or just use my PS IV.
  6. http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?spkrfull&1059786347 smarmy(http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=smarmy). I'm going to listen to my Academys now. Won an AC-3 decoder on eBay. Waiting. (HT is not a great priority right now. As long as I have some surround for special effects, I am happy.) And I sold my Adcom GFA 555-II. I hope I don't regret it. Need to get my dual source switcher employed soon so I can have 2-channel tubed and HT SS'ed in one system.
  7. KG4s sold to non-forum bloke. He had first dibs long ago on anything I was selling from my "collection" and I had forgotten about him. Saved me from packing, though. Sorry, Forum members. This young audiophile wannabe called me from a pawn shop about some overpriced Cerwin Vegas. I saved him the heartbreak. He heard a pair of Pioneer HPM-100s that I sold to a friend of his and suddenly his speakers sucked. Plenty of KG4s on eBay, though and real cheap considering their furniture-like quality and hometheater appeal, but mine were the beautiful Walnut. I am moving up my JBL L110s from storage. Darned nice speakers, those L110s. I see a lot of used speakers in my travels and I want to score some Heresys for a full Heresy front lineup in my theater with a good quality sub. I presently have one 70s Heritage for a center. Not a great match to the JBLs, but it did not match the KG4s either.
  8. Hey, didn't he change the description too? I thought he said it was in better condition, not even broken in. There wasn't any mention of nicks, etc. was there? No suprise he went to auction but that, my friends, is called reneging on a deal if an agreement was reached to sell.
  9. Glass tops is sooooo seventies. Vintage speakers - fine. Vintage furniture accents - Squaresville, Man. It is 2003. You must now use Silestone or Cambria to be "happening."
  10. (I feel I just caused a stir in the Force.) I am in the Baltimore/DC area. They are in great condition - very presentable. PM me if interested and I will send some jpegs.
  11. I will sell mine for half that. Less maybe. Oh yea... Walnut.
  12. Just how often does a guy get told that he has a nice rack? Say, could you sample that down to around 500 pixels wide and resubmit it? Pythons eat pigs faster than that downloads on my lowly DSL. Thanks.
  13. I tossed my Large Advents that I bought in college because the foam had rotted after about 8 years. I really just wanted an excuse to buy new speakers. Their replacement: Polk Monitor 5. Over a short time, I hated those speakers. That metal dome tweeter drilled right through my head. So I gave them away. I have learned my lesson. (Gary, I would do everything possible to have Paige autograph that Mac!!! Even if it is the inside of the bottom plate if there is one.)
  14. Took my summer savings, drove to a stereo outlet in Rockville, MD. 'Heard Harman Kardon and ESS/Heil AMT's and loved them but could not afford them. Ended up buying Large Advents ($119 each for utility cabinets), JVC S-31 Integrated Amp, Phillips TT + Audio Technica cartridge. I had the best sounding system on my dorm floor.
  15. Recently, I was impressed while watching the SciFi channel during one of those intense scifi moments where I could hear the actors BREATHING. And it sounded NATURAL. Now THAT'S a good center channel! Mine is flanked by Quartets. Congratulations. I hope you have matching Classics. I never heard seamless front panning until I got my Academy.
  16. For what it's worth, our family cared for children whose parents faced daunting obstacles while they worked things out. And they were always welcomed with loving arms and devotion to their welfare. I pray the same for you and yours. God provides answers, not just talk.
  17. Would klipsch provide a forum exclusively for the The Klipsch Forum Cornwall Vault? You could register it as KlipschVault.net or something. It is only $35 to register but monthly fees vary. As a subdomain, it could be much cheaper. We have all heard stories about things that get sent all around the world with pictures taken of their temporary owners with the item. This could be a hoot for Cornwall devotees. Heck, put a note (or gift) in it like they apparently do in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House for the next visitor.
  18. No, these... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3035010232&category=14993
  19. "My local Tweeter salesman/friend took a Mac MC240 out of a customer's house a while back." Did she report this to the HoCoPD? Sounds like TWO crimes have been committed here! BTW, Gramophone, Ltd. as a connection with a real Mac guru if you want red carpet service on that pup. Way to go!
  20. Go for some exotic veneer. Why recoat something to look like new old stock? You may want to consider new cabinets and hold your originals if you ever want to return to original condition. Invest in something unique if you have the opportunity. Try a print wrap where you can make a collage of period bands/musicians on your computer and have it printed on adhesive-backed vinyl material to stick on your enclosures. You can even print on some fiber materials to make new grills. Just thoughts.
  21. Look at the bidder list. The high bidder has ZERO feedback. This means two things. One is that he is likely a planted bidder to force the price up. Two... well, stop at one since that is probably what is going on. I have seen it many times before. Bids can be retracted later leaving someone holding the bag. Leave it alone until near close and find out what it is really worth to you. Personally, for a purchase like that, I would want to see AND hear them in person B4 bidding.
  22. 27" TV. 30" horns. Priorities perfectly aligned, IMO.
  23. "It ain't the meat, it's the motion..." -Maria Muldaur She was singing about speakers, you know.
  24. Gary, you were in my back yard! Little Feat? Music against grain of the times but had a devoted following. Slide guitar, laid back vocals, third world percussion, Tower of Power horns. Uncopyable.
