INTRODUCTION: Here is My Klipsch-tory. Well, sharing was suggested by another member in regard to a recent purchase of Cornwalls and I guess I am bored or perhaps have too much time on my hands so I thought why not just make some feeble attempt at sharing my whole Klipsch-tory. Sure I may bore some of you and that’s ok, just hit the back button or finish reading this when you are having trouble falling asleep. This tale is going to go much farther back than these Cornwalls though, because it was another Klipsch speaker that caused my particular version of audiophilia. And yeah I’ll share pictures and essentially do a long term review as things evolve on these Cornwalls. I’ll also do the same for KG4’s. Because that’s were this story really begins. Now that I'm a retired music teacher, I have some time to "love my listening". I've just discovered this community and have spent the day reading many, many threads. I might add that I have enjoyed the reading and am quite impressed with the knowledge base here as well as the understanding. So, I'm a newbie to the group but have owned my Cornwalls since 1983 when I bought them used for $125 each. I got them from a former student who told me her husband had bought these "things" and they were too big for the house. Evidently he had also bought Heresy speakers and she told him he could keep them. Anyway, I've had them for a long time and loved them continuously. Had to fend off my wife by reminding her that I'd had the Cornwalls way longer than I'd known her. They reside in my living room as the mains for our home theater, I use R15m's for the surrounds and back. Just got new Crites crossovers for them and will be installing them as soon as I get in new 5-way connectors. Now for my question for the group. I get to have a "man cave" now and it is in the process of being remodeled. I bought a pair of Heresy II speakers with updated Crites crossovers and tweeters for use with a Yamaha R-S700, Onkyo C-7030 CD, Audio Technica Turntable, and Dayton Audio 12" sub. The room is small 12'x12" and the sub is just barely present in the sound with the crossover at 80. I love the Heresy almost as much as the Cornwall and I think that the low bass is being handled well by the sub. The question is... should the Heresy be on the floor, on a Klipsch style riser, or on a stand 18"-20" high? Would the stand take too much away from the bass of the Heresy? I've tried them on the floor and right now, they are tilted 1.5" high in the front. I kinda like that. The floor is carpet now but will be hardwood at the end of the remodel. No curtains in the room, just blinds although curtains could be added. What think the gurus of the forum?

Here is a picture of some speakers that I just completed. You could call them Cornwall III clones or Cornwall inspired, but they are DIY scratch built speakers. The cabinets are Baltic birch covered in South African waterfall bubinga. They are filled with factory drivers and crossovers, so of course, they sound amazing. I'm trying them in different rooms with different amplification to determine where they are going to stay. I Love this hobby!

Just to share my experience. I just replaced my K-77M driver-to-horn gasket with the "Garlock Style 3000 Blue-gard compressed non-asbestos" sheet gasketing (1/32 inch thickness). I could hear the improvement especially (at least to my hearing) it eliminates the high-end distortion that usually heard whenever I maximised the treble gain on my pre-amp (I'm using VTA-12 tubes pre amp). Does anybody has the same experience by replacing their K-77 driver-to-horn gaskets especially when there are NO aftermarket gaskets for K-77M driver-to-horn? My Cornwalll is the 1981 version with all original stocks and Bob Crites' B2 crossovers inside. Cheers, Jimmy -
I have a pair of Cornwall II's in great condition- raw birch. I just purchased a set of risers from Crites for them and installed just to see how they would look. As I suspected, they look awesome. However, the risers are white pine and my Cornwalls are birch. Anyone have a suggestion as to the color of stain or type of stain or oil I could use on the risers to match the Cornwalls? I looked around on the forum and found nothing. Many topics about refinishing or staining, but nothing in rgerads to what I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question: what should I look for when demoing? Recommendations? Background: Demoing tomorrow and probably deciding to buy one of the two. The La Scalas are the industrial version in black (not my wife's favorite) or walnut recovered Cornwall IIs which present well in pictures. Both systems have been been cosmetically restored but the components are original from the late 70s. They will be going into a room that is 15x30, placing them on the long wall. I do not have an amp yet but I am looking at 30-40wpc tube Macs for a strictly 2ch setup. I play guitar and listen to soft rock, blues, and jazz at moderate levels. No worries about neighbors and noise levels. I do have a few db loss in hearing in the 3-4K range which will color my evaluation, I am sure, so it will come down to which sounds the best to me and the wife can live with. TIA -

So i picked up some Cornwalls a couple weeks ago. Missing tweeters and one woofer. Had a spare woofer laying around. Ordered Crites CT-120 and installed. My first impression was they lacked the detail of my La Scala. I am running them in tandem with my La Scalas so this is a "side by side comparison". Coincidentally, the La Scala and the Cornwalls are "U"... 1980 models. La Scala is AA crossover and the Cornwall is the B crossover. A good audio friend of mine came over and we recapped the crossovers real quick last Saturday. Swapping the 4 uF for a 3 (I believe) and he tweaked my parametric a tad (400hz +3db) and they definitely sound better but when run together with the La Scalas I find that I'm not too crazy about them (the Cornwalls). I'm curious about suggested mods for the Cornwalls? I have a 2nd pair of La Scala that will get the bass bin mod AND custom crossovers a la my friend who's La Scalas completely blow me away. In the long run, I picture a La Scala in all four corners (!) and the Cornwalls in my den. Thoughts, suggestions welcome. Is this how the Cornscala came to be?!?

So my $60 La Scalas are missing a tweeter and my Cornwall score is missing both. I pulled the trigger on a pair of Crites CT-120's for the Cornwalls. A buddy has a big ol' box of tweeters and recommends a pair of Wolverines for the La Scala. I have high hopes for the CT-120's in the Cornwalls which... I should have singing tomorrow night. Based on the reviews here, I'm thinking they are going to sound stellar. The La Scalas will be a bit as I have a cabinet to reassemble. Anyone use the Wolverines? They are EV T-35's. He's asking $100 for the pair. Says they MAY be new. Can't remember. See pics...

An eBay seller is offering four "Cornwall E" speakers: the back label has no serial # but says "Exclusively made for audio int'l/Frankfurt, Germany." Googling reveals nothing about this line: do any of the Klipsch experts on here have any further information? I'm not interested in the auction as I'm not a Ft. Lauderdale local and don't have the room for four Cornwalls in my apartment, but I'm always interested in learning more about Klipsch history.

I have a vintage pair of K33 woofers in excellent condition. These were removed from my K'horns for an update just after purchasing them used in 84. Speakers measure DCR 3.4 and 3.3. Photo upload won't cooperate, pics on request. $300.00, you pay shipping. They are in pristine, working condition, see pics. Please ask any questions you may have. All sales are final.

**New to the Forum** - I just purchased a pair of early 80's Heresys in great cosmetic condition. I was introduced to Klipsch at an early age because I grew up in a house with my dad's 70's Cornwalls. A few year's back, I had a 10" Reference Series sub gifted to me and I was impressed with it's bass output - especially paired with my cheaper JBL shelf system that I had at the time. I was very excited to find the Heresys in my local area, so I scooped them up since I am setting up (from scratch) a new system for my condo. I purchased a Denon AVR-S510BT receiver (700W) and hooked up the Heresys this evening, and I must say, I was extremely disappointed in the bass output. I have searched forums on here, and I have also read reviews on other sites, and it's clear that low end on the Heresys is not a strong point. However, I was not expecting virtually no bass whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, the highs sound fantastic - crisp and clear as day. I didn't expect them to be comparable to the Cornwall's by any means, but I did expect the 12" woofers in the Heresys to have similar output that the 10" Reference sub had. Am I way off base here? To be clear, I am by no means an audio expert. Since I have never heard a pair of Heresys before I don't know what to listen for, nor what their bass standard should be. The settings in the Denon are correct from what I have researched. I do not have any surround or center speakers. The settings are set for front speakers and are set on "Large" with no sub. I have checked the positive and negative on both speakers and they are hooked up correctly. Have I just been spoiled with the bass response on the Cornwalls? Should I just pair them with a sub? It's just hard for me to believe that a speaker made by Klipsch and marketed as "2/3 a Klipschorn" would have so little bass response. Any input would be welcomed.

Hi. I have a chance to buy a McIntosh 1700, which I want to play with my Cornwalls. Mostly listen to vinyl records through my Technics SL-1200. I understand the McIntosh is a hybrid - tuner is tube and preamp is SS. Would it be better to get a receiver where the preamp is tube - to get better sound I understand it would be better to get the tubes. Thanks.

A few years ago I bought a par of Khorns in NY and shipped them to Australia - at more than they cost to buy. The Khorns are in the corners of a long room so now I'm looking for a single heritage speaker to fill the gap. Cornwall, Chorus II or Forte II look good candidates. The problem is most Klipsch for sale are pairs and I only need one and can't afford to ship a spare. Because of their size most speakers are also pickup only which poses a problem when I'm in Australia. So the question is, anyone have a single speaker to sell and is also willing to help me get it shipped? If I get the chance to be picky, walnut would match the Khorns.
