  1. From ad: $1600 for the pair. If you know speakers you know Klipsch La Scalas Awesome condition. Sound is amazing. http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/ele/5836010878.html No affiliation. Look to be in decent shape.
  2. Hey all, We have been quite pleased with the overwhelming success of the limited run of 70th Anniversary edition Heresy and Klipschorns. So much so that I've been told to ask you all about your thoughts on possible future "custom" Heritage speakers. We're talking strictly cosmetics here - finishes and grilles. What finish / grille combo(s) would you love to see and be interested in for the Khorn / Heresy III / Cornwall III / La Scala II? I'll be compiling this thread and handing it over to key decision makers sometime soon. We are just gauging interest for now, so let's hear it! Oh yeah, these of course would be built in Hope just like always. Thanks!
  3. Pair of La Scala's located in the Boise Idaho area. https://boise.craigslist.org/ele/5784933327.html Not Affiliated
  4. So I got lucky. There was an online auction where a listing said "Klipsch La Scala" but showed pictures of some old Yamaha PA speakers worth next to nothing. I knew nothing about Klipsch speakers or La Scalas except that they can be worth some money. I bid on them and won. $400. The company said the listing was wrong and let me chose between the La Scalas and the Yamahas, so obviously I picked the La Scalas. They are in generally good shape, just some scratching to the finish. I have cleaned them up some, they wreaked of nicotine. I was directed here from Audiokarma. So far I have found out I have probably joined a cult. Also that my La Scala are industrial and they have the AL-3 crossover. Now I want to know more. I can get more pictures if necessary. I'd love more specs. What's the difference between the industrial and the home version? Was $400 a good price? What have I gotten myself into??
  5. Last Friday and Saturday, I drove 1,030 mile round trip to pick up a pair of refurbished La Scalas from Mathews. Left around 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning. First stop was U-Haul to rent a package of furniture moving pads. Two day rental was $10.00 plus tax. It's not a bad deal all things considered. Didn't have any old blankets or comforters as a big load of them went to Goodwill just a month ago. Decided to take the southern route, Cinci to Louisville then up to St. Louis and across to Columbia. Wasn't a bad drive but after 8 hours I was a little road crazed upon arriving at Matthew's house. He sensed my dazed condition and provide a nice cup of coffee and some tunes. Love the way the La Scalas sounded through his wall of tube goodness. Just magical. Spent the night in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, 3 hours east of Columbia. Driving through St. Louis twice in one day was not well thought out on my part. Rained both times. Traffic was heavy. Typical stuff. Here are some pictures of loading the speakers: La Scalas in the CRV: Proud new La Scala papa: All bundled up and ready to go Home, unscathed, in the garage: On temporary duty in the family room waiting for the music room to get painted Sounding great.... Glad I had the opportunity to meet Matt. What a nice guy! Listening to these beauties right now. So happy I pulled the trigger and bought this wonderful looking and sounding pair of speakers. Mark

  9. From ad: I am selling a pair of Klipsch La Scala speakers in pretty much mint condition. I am selling for a friend of mine he passed away and his wife wants to sell these so what they go for new and what I'm selling them for it's pretty much a steal just make an offer. Text me for pics..computer screwed up Type LS BLS Chuck Text: 847-636-6763 http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ele/5742685628.html No affiliation. They are from 1985 with AL crossovers. 13. I tried my best to purchase Matt's La Scalas but the distance made it tough (I'm in Montgomery, AL) and by the time I figured out my pony express they were gone. But alas... the wife and I were headed to Atlanta for dinner and a show this past weekend and on a whim I thought... I should check the Atlanta Criagslist! LOL Found a nice original pair from a gentlemen in Marietta (see my post in alerts for his Chorus he has for sale). I'm not sure of the year yet... if they are like the Heresy date code, I think these are 1980 or 1981. They are all original with a couple of dings and scratches but darn nice for their age. Left our hotel Sunday morning in downtown Atlanta and went and picked them up. It's a 3 hour drive home with a good chance of rain so moving blankets and a tarp were in order. Made it home just in time to beat the rain. I plan to rebuild the crossovers but they sure sound great as is!! I loved my Heresies but the La Scala? WOW. Very nice. I'm a happy guy! I'm driving these with an M-504 Onkyo Integra right now. not sure which system will eventually be "the one" but for now this will work. My room is almost 700 sq ft as it used to be the garage so I have plenty of room to open them up. I have a pair of Cerwin Vega CL-215's running in the rear of the room as well. The La Scalas are so sensitive, you can barely here the CV's! LOL This is a good thing in my book as they just add a little bottom end to the room with their dual 15's.
  14. I'm just asking for someone's opinion on the value of two brand new 1970s La Scalas still in their original shipping boxes. I'm undecided whether to sell them and need some guidance. I picked them up at the factory in Hope Arkansas about 40 years ago and they've been kept in storage since then. I believe the cabinets are unfinished birch.
  15. There's a pair of Classic RF-7 speakers for sale in my area, with factory-upgraded crossovers. I'm interested but not finding much info on them. Can anyone tell me: - How do Classic RF-7's compare with RF-7II's sonically? - Are Classic RF-7's better for 2-channel music or 5.1 home theater? What types of music or movies are they best suited for? (my AVR is a Yamaha A-3000, my 2-channel amps are Odyssey Stratos Monos) - When would you choose La Scala's over Classic RF-7's or RF-7II's? Thanks in advance for enabling my latest obsession...

  18. I just pick my first pair and 1/2 of La Scalas and wanted to remove the woofer to sand down the bass bin unit. My question is how can I pry the lid off without messing up the veneer? It feels very tight and stuck and I believe there must be a glue holding them together. Also, what is a good wood putty that accepts stain well, any help would be appreciated.

  20. I am cobbling together all of the electronics equipment that I have to put together a home theater. I don't think these components go together particularly well, but maybe someone can shed some light. Here is what I have: Yamaha RX-V1800 7.1 A/V Receiver A pair of La Scalas for the Front or 2-Mission 774 Floor standing Loudspeakers A pair of Klipsch RP160M for the rear Additional Surround options: 2-Bic Venturi V52 Surround Speakers or 2-Boston Acoustic CR55 Surround Speakers Klipsch Synergy C2 Center Speaker Velodyne CT-100 Powered Subwoofer My problem is that my room is 11X20 and I want it to do double duty. The La Scalas currently are connected to a Marantz 2045 and a Music Hall MMF2.2 turntable which are located on the short far wall of the room. The sweet spot for listening is right smack dab in the middle of my sofa about 10 feet away from the speakers or 12' away from the wall. So there isn't much room for additional speakers up front. I could place Mission 774s in between the La Scalas just on the outside edge of the flat screen that is mounted directly on the wall. The receivers and turntable will go on a crazy stand that I am building just below the tv or at the back of the room behind the sofa. (I haven't decided yet.) My preference would be to somehow use the La Scalas for the front (home theater) and for listening to vinyl. Then I can use the Synergy C2 for the center and the Velodyne CT-00 sub. Finally the BA CR55s surround and the RP160s in the rear. Thoughts? Should I scrap the idea of using the La Scalas for the home theater front channel? Would it be wrong to stand the 774s on top of the La Scalas (Maybe I can put some carpet in between)?<-- seems like a very bad idea.
  21. Hello everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently, about 6 months ago, acquired a set of La Scala's via CL at a very affordable price. They were road speakers (maybe) and covered in carpet. They sounded awesome but looked pretty rough (NOT wife approved for the living room). But the sound brings tears to my eyes (in a good way) with certain music. Sooooo I decided to modify the La Scala's (gasp). And one of the main reasons I modified it to a Khornish is because we just moved into a new house and the living room has large cubbies on either side of the TV that will act as a large corner for the doghouse. So I made a new front end on the backside of the La Scala so that the horns are now forward and the bassbin faces back into the cubbies. I painted the exteriors with Duratex and layed some rosewood veneer on the front. I also upgraded to Crites 120 tweeters and the new crossover to boot. I've included some of the pics. I should be done with them tomorrow morning and be able to test them out then. I have no skills (I'm good at demo) so this was a test for my meager skills and patience. Have to have the wife help me align the speakers for mounting and then we are all done! Any questions or ideas (or criticisms) are welcome. Enjoy the speaker porn I christen these the Mini-K's!

  24. EDIT: Black La Scala Sold see new post here: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/159993-fs-klipsch-la-scalas-fastrac-crites-xos-1900obo/ I have 3 La Scalas for sale near St. Louis, pickup only. All horns have been upgraded and will come with sale along with original K-400's. I do have the crossovers currently upgraded to Crites but they will not be included in the sale as i have another project in mind for them. However if you would like to have a listen we can arrange so you can see how the puppies sing with the new crossovers. I also have the original type AA crossovers that will hold their own as well and are no slouch. I had these setup for home theater LCR and they were amazing. Currently have 2 setup upstairs in stereo and 1 downstairs in a temporary center channel til i finish my project. The veneer is starting to peel on the bottoms but overall these are nice pieces and i get complements. The center channel is painted black as you can see in the photos. Good pieces install new veneer or paint. I'm currently doing a DIY project just because and am not getting rid of these for any other reason than me being bored. I'll post a link to the craigslist add as well. Looking to get $2400/obo, will consider trades for mono block/pre-amp combo. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/5274176256.html Thank you for looking, Justin A.
