USNRET
So I go to a meeting about my son's upcoming H.S. band trip / performance at Disney World and throughout I am staring at flown LaScalas. Later I swapped emails with the band director and asked him about the Klipsch. They were installed when the band hall was built about 1980 and are used to play a metronome to the students .
BigStewMan
Took three toys to my grandson--he’s back to normal. just as quick as he got sick, he’s fine now. I guess he was eating all day long. While i was leaving i pulled out a hearing aid because my ear was itching, dropped it in the driveway...now it doesn’t work. Warranty long ago expired. Hopefully it is an inexpensive fix. Now that i have these things--i’m dependent on them.
USNRET
Now that i have these things--i’m dependent on them. My wife is my hearing aid. She tells me that everything I need to hear comes from her (and she is deaf even after 3 implants of those stirrups, anvil, ear part things).
Moderators dtel Posted May 12, 2016 Moderators Share Posted May 12, 2016 That's very cool, especially the pattern. I learned something today! I used that burn technique on horse stalls a few years ago, but I used a flamethrower type of torch, 500k BTUs! The routing is not hard if I could do this on the first try, with practice it would get better, I would hope. I was bored and stuff happens when I have nothing to do. The vertical boards are red cedar, it's a 24' bench with a garden pond on the other side, there are railroad ties behind those boards, I need something cheap to cover the creosote ties so no one would rub against them. This was 6' fence boards @ $3.50 for 6 ', cut down to a little over a foot made it cheap to cover the front of the bench. The top of the bar was burned also and covered with many coats of marine spar varnish. The burning turned out to be easier and cheaper than stain., so I burned everything.

Specialist offered to do a stapectomy on me--cut out the bone and replace it with metal. he said it wouldn’t restore hearing but would keep it from getting worse. however the tech at the hearing aid place said it can improve hearing as much as 30%. Probably about time to research it--have plenty of insurance.

Doesn't every high school band have La Scalas? Several years ago I bought a pair of bar beaters from Michael Colter and refurbished them for our sons' high school band room.

That's a shame, I wonder if they ever tried playing music through them, they may be surprised.

DizRotus
I wonder if they ever tried playing music through them, they may be surprised. The day we hooked up the pair at Birmingham Seaholm High School, the director put on Back in the U.S.S.R. and turned it up so loud it could be heard throughout the building. What's a metronome? DizRotus
What's a metronome? Dude did you really ask that? No I didn't. It was sarcasm. It was intended to illustrate the wastefulness of using La Scalas to merely keep time. Apparently, it didn't work. oldtimer
Excellent. But quite frankly I would never complain about a metronome through LaScalas.
akdave
So it took a picture of a nice set of boobs to bring Steve back. I'm OK with that. Now we know what to post next time he disappears. OK another pic for Steve since he is a Raiders fan. . When my brother and sister in law moved here from Alaska and decided to stay they had to change license plates and they gave me the old one's, this is from his wife's jeep, she is a Raiders fan but I still like her. What town did your brother live in?
DizRotus
Doesn't every high school band have La Scalas? In case you're curious. I don't really believe that all high school bands have La Scalas. Before the director asked for my advice, some other father suggested a Bose surround system for $4,500. I asked, "What's you budget?" When he replied, "$2,500," I choked and then said, for that money we can make their ears bleed. He and the students love those speakers. IMO, it would be a shame if "tick-tock" replaced music from the La Scalas. In the interest of full disclosure, at the request of the director, I later added the braces shown in the attached photo to address sidewall flex in the bass bins. At the volumes sometimes played, the well known La Scala problem was clearly evident. I also later performed the djk bass mod. I highly recommend both modifications. Before anyone asks. No, the La Scalas were not really used in the Miata. Call me hyperbolic. Edited May 12, 2016 by DizRotus
