minermark
Morning gang Easy 90+ today Only 10 fires in the state, down from 17. Wall cap stone "Plug" in first stage of fabrication. Why build one when you can have two for twice the price. Since we are already casting rocks, another mold(s) is no biggie. I understand some of you may NOT know the process of "Tooling up" parts that cannot be bought. So this is the first step in creating what will be a finished concrete cap for my Rock wall. These are two wood plugs, they will be tooled to exact fit on the wall, "Plugs" is what the trade calls them. This first stage is where you dial in every detail you can think of. These "Plugs" will be used to make the mold(s).
Tarheel
Reading Neil's thread on forum behavior got me thinking about the most memorable threads here over the years. Do you guys have favorites? I have to admit that the NBS thread where Mark was saying there were striking similarities in the NBS and his preamps was entertaining. I also had fun with my UFC thread where forum members battled each other in single elimination bouts. Some of you may not have been there at the time but we had fun. We only had 3 women , Amy, Christy, and meagin so their bouts went quickly. What woman said " if she tries to flee I'll take her in three"? I have also enjoyed build threads that are well documented. I do get a little lost with all the physics and mechanical drawings however. The "Got Tomatoes" thread was fun and went on a while with great photos from dtel and others showing their "crops". Then there was the thread of mine that eventually was locked. The Michael Vick thread. He had just been charged with all the horrific animal abuse and I could not let it go without comment. A forum member, mas, and I got into it and it got heated. Not one of my finer moments. The "oldbuckster" thread and the "Boxx" thread left me in tears. Two of the forums most loved members gone way too soon. So as I approach year 12 here in a couple of more months I have to say it's been entertaining, informative, sad at times, and an opportunity to make some good virtual friends. Here's to more to come.

Considering most of the youtube videos iv seen, im doing right, or better. Did NOT count on inventing my own cap stone, or tooling up a mold for them, but hell when you cannot purchase anything that looks half decent, might as well make exactly what you want.

I admire your willingness to work, and that's a lot of hard work, I do that for a living. Labor prices around here are $10-12 a square foot installation, that coping would be about $8 a foot to install. I try to talk people into using flat smooth limestone as coping, it's about $10 a foot for 14" wide. I'm sure your labor rates are much higher there.

We researched for a couple years on how/what to address the 30 year old retaining wall. We have the best looking house in the hood because it was a flipper house. The last owner put a ton of upgrades from the outside / in. But this wall is butt ugly, A guy down the street tore his wall out, replaced it with "Real RiverRock" and when you see it you think "Good Idea", Bad Install, looks like CHIT. If he would have ask questions in the stone yard or at least a couple videos, it would have looked great. Im afraid our wall, when completed will not make him too warm&fuzzy. Doing what iv done so far, i admire Masons, one bad azz trade. im taking it slow, tips/tricks trickle in.
