It's not funny how the big teams don't get a real playoff but the next division has had one for years that seems to work.
JL Sargent
Are you fatigued with the success of Alabama or the SEC in general? As far as playoffs go in college football, it is evolving into something resembling a structured playoff system. How many team should be included though? Everybody at Navy has to be in an extracurricular activity and the Naval Academy used to bring their drum and bugle corps. They were always exciting to listen to as they played the marching music of our country and of course their signature tune, Anchor's Away. If your definition of "seems to work" means "nobody watches" then yeah, the little team playoffs work great. These are college kids and of the hundred or so college teams only the top 4 will be in a playoff. The financial returns are huge and a top 16 playoff would detract from that. Personally I like the old bowl game setup. I know, it's not coming back.

As for a playoff system just look at the one in place for the next division. We all know the hang up is the antiquated bowls. As for the sec I'm not seeing a lot of great teams lately, but the reputation for the polls allows them (and a few others like fsu) to just win baby, while anyone else has to beat the spread or drop in the polls even when they win in some cases. That is completely disingenuous. They are second tier football schools so of course they don't have the network big market audience. Provide a real argument. They are college kids supposedly there to get an education not bring in money for a non profit organization. Detract from that? Holy pistoli where are our values. oldtimer
Example: There is the college baseball world series. It involves the big schools, and is a true playoff. Example: There is march madness for basketball also involving the big schools and also a tournament/playoff format. What is the matter here? The money would be just as great with a playoff system but here's the rub----the money would go somewhere else besides some big bowl executives pockets and more would actually go to the schools! oldtimer
Already answered in a previous post. More money would go to the schools if the bowl committees were cut out.
wvu80
Michigan 78-Zip over Rutgers with time left in the fourth. I think Michigan has covered the spread.

DizRotus
Great win for NAVY. Bad for Louisville. Beating an undefeated Houston would have been Louisville's big win. Now it can't happen. Anchors Aweigh!

wvu80
OSU vs Wis...I'm on it. I thought OSU defense was missing a lot of tackles. That's not like them. OSU QB Barrett looks unstoppable while running.
