Could sound better
Try a Jolida jd100. Mine sounds great, I recently rolled some Voice of Music branded 12ax7a's in and I'm hearing stuff on my favorite songs I've never heard before.
MeloManiac
Marantz ND8006 combines CD with future proof network capabilities. The Marantz CD5005 is barebones entry level CD player. The CD6006 is, according to What Hifi, the best available CD player. It also has usb.
parlophone1
I was also loorking at Marantz 6006. Sony stated above is much cheaper, but of course it is stock. And there are newer models now if going to buy new. So..., would Sony 170 model be a wise decision against Marantz 6006?
Trippigs
Update.....the Sony arrived yesterday in very good shape. Hooked it up and listened to a Harry Connick light jazz CD and highly enjoyed it. No harsh highs or ear fatigue. This fills my needs well and I appreciate all the advice....especially Moray!
glens
That's a utilitarian equipment rack!
Trippigs
Yes it is and this is my workshop! I have 40 feet of this ugly industrial grade shelving full of stuff including my stereo. I hung white bedsheets in front of all the shelving which I think helps tidy things up a bit. My LaScalas are in corners about 3 foot off the floor. A couple of big easy chairs finish the decor! I think it sounds good so not much real work happens in my “ workshop”.

I’ve built, refurbished, and repaired many projects in my garage/workshop for years having many audio systems there and really enjoyed it.

I add filtering to the supply and to the drive motor and the servo control of the laser lens.

I have a Sony c333es modded at modwright 18yrs ago and still going strong. Had to run a cleaner thru it last year, but still sounds great. My brother still has the first Sony CD he ever bought in 85 and it still works well and still sounds good.
Dr Morbius
I'm another huge fan of the Bluesound Vault 2 system. Best thing since sliced bread with some cheese and a nice Chardonnay!

I loved their picture tubes, and I've got (in storage, some already known to not power up any more) or had various media playing / recording equipment, but their electronics have fairly consistently proven short-lived. Of course I must say I've never reached higher in range than middle-of-the-road so that's likely a major factor.
