Not only that, even CDs sound better on a later model Blu-ray player.  Better DAC?  Who knows, but I couldn’t miss the difference when I upgraded from a 2005 DVD player to a 2018 flagship Blu-ray player.

OK I give up. What is a 2018 flagshp Bluray player called?

It's the one in my sig line, the Panasonic DMP-UB900, at $850CAD.  The next year, 2019, Panasonic released a new flagship, the DP-UB9000, at $1300CAD, while the U900 was replaced by a slightly stripped down version, called the DP-UB820, at $500CAD.

I considered an Oppo, but went with the Panasonic because the company was continuing to make Blu-ray players, unlike Oppo.  I'm pretty happy with it.  As I mentioned, CDs sound better, with more clarity and bass presence.

Well, the build-in DAC get improved every year. I guess, once i get a Blue Ray, i´ll play my CDs on it as well. Will be interesting to compare the Panasonic UB-824 to my Marantz DV7001.
