csinsc
Hello, I just picked up a set of Cornwall I's that I believe were built in 1982. Looking for recommendations for Caps and perhaps a good place to order from? Thanks in advance, Chris

Alexander
On the chance that the price point for those high(er) end caps are too high the same vendor also offers less expensive examples.

Agree with this. Nice looking Cornwalls.
mark1101
Those are what I have in my corns from probably 10-12 years ago. Still excellent.

JohnA
I'll bet your Cornwalls are 1981s. If '82, they would be early '82. That tweeter is post '79. A K-55-V is generally pre-'82, though that was the transition year.
csinsc
John, you are correct, they are not 82's, they are actually 1980's. Thanks for making me look again!! Chris
Frzninvt
If they were built later in 1980 they will have the desirable K-55V's with the solder terminals and dual phase plug.
csinsc
Mine are soldered, but what is the dual phase plug? Thanks, Chris

Deang
Lucky you. Extended and smoother response between 4000 and 6000 Hz.
csinsc
I feel fortunate to be able to buy them. I had been looking for quite a while but it always seemed that the reasonably priced ones were 4 or more hours away and the close ones were near 2k. I did order new driver gaskets this afternoon, and I may pick up the SMAHL V2's. I understand those are a great upgrade. Thanks to all, Chris
PrestonTom
Congratulations on your "new" speakers. I am sure you will enjoy them. Other than refreshing some capacitors or gaskets, may I suggest that you do NOT start with the "upgrades". Just listen and enjoy them. Experiment with their placement (distance from the wall or corner, listening angle, toe-in, etc, etc). This will be a tedious process and is not done in a single afternoon with a couple of beers. Rather, be systematic about it. This will provide much larger gains in performance. Listen, evaluate, enjoy, repeat, repeat, repeat. Sometime later if you can articulate some specific deficiencies, then come back with a clear description of what you want to change (not a nebulous statement of I want it to sound "better"), Then, you can get some reasoned advice from many of the members here. The urge to immediately "upgrade" is filled with problems. Good luck, -Tom
csinsc
That is good advice, thanks. Chris
