Saturday night, we set up a 42" monitor and played the first 4 or 5 tracks on the AC/DC Live at Donnington concert DVD at concert SPLs.  A little hard to see the screen from 40 ft back LOL, but it sounded great.

Yea that's when I put my earplugs in and went inside and started reading PWKs biography. It's all good, just not MY cup of tea. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it. I'm just too old I guess...no wait I've never liked AC/DC...someone singing(screaming) at me that hell is a good place? No thanks.

That covers a lot of ground Tchaikovsky - AC/DC!!

Anything in between that just stood out being played through those wonderful speakers - Outside!

I am heading out to the wilderness this weekend with a small flatbed full of speakers and was looking for something to add to my playlist. Something a handful of sixty something guys would appreciate.

It's so much about what you're into and good source and recordings.  My sources for testing and auditioning speakers utilizes a ton of Steely Dan/Supertramp/Vaughn Bros./Chaka Kahn (don't laugh until you listen), Chicago, AC/DC (certain tracks), Pink Floyde (certain tracks), Earth Wind and Fire, Dire Straits, Roger Daltrey (under a raging moon) Dave Matthews, Bonnie Raitt, Power Station (Get it on and Some like it hot will rock), The Firm, to name a few.  We listened to most of those listed, but not all.  There's so much music to experience, and there are a few artists that I had never heard of, but will be listening to, because I got exposed to them at SWAG.  Great freaking time, and I'm so sorry I forgot to pick you up.  Can I get a commitment from you for the next one?

This may sound a little odd but the differences between all the speakers was subtle at best, at least to me.  No apples and oranges which surprised me.  The bass on the EV's wasn't as tight as the LSI's or mini punches but was a bit more tactile.  Clarity was great on the EV's especially with vocals but minis' and LSI's had a bit more sparkle.  LSI's wewre extremely good at detail and nuance.  You could hear everything.  Minis were no slouch in that regard either as both sets of speakers had MAHLs.  Honestly, I could be happy with any of the 3 sets and fortunately I own 2 of the 3:wink:.

My review would have been no doubt different if they were listened to without a sub but personally I never listen to any of my systems without one.  Others may have different opinions than mine however and they'll be just as valid.

That IMHO is a really accurate overview.  Funny, how we all hear things slightly different, or have different preferences, as you and I found out, but in the end, good is good, and it's the tweaking to your listening preferences that makes everyone favor one over another.  Like you, I own 2 of the 3 and after listening to the LSI bass bin (with the braces, and I think that does make a big difference from the other LaScala's that I've hear) and Dave's monster horns.................I'm thinking about some kind of build????  LOL

the mini punch was placed with the 2 woofers in line ,  I wonder if the projection changes if the cab is turned 90 degrees -

Carl asked the same question, which prompted us turning them that way.  In a room, I really didn't notice a big difference, and outside, at the levels we were listening at, tough to tell.  As I now get to building the top hats for the mids and tweeters, I will do some listening both ways and some measurements and report back.

I'd forgotten that it was this weekend.  Would have loved to join the rest of you middle agers.

Looks and now sounds like you all had a great time!  That's fantastic.

Getting old sucks!  LOL, so that's a firm yes for the next one from you, as long as we remind you when it is?
