I've been eyeing this Alvarez Yairi for a while. It's a DYMR70SB, a 12 fret neck, rosewood back and sides. I love the slope shoulder guitars. Sweetwater has it discounted about $700, but that's still about $2000 too high.

I need it like I need a hole in my head... but the Yairis a beautiful instruments.

I used to play 40 years ago, was never particularly good but enjoyed it. Life marriage and everything else pushed playing right off the table. A friend of mine here in Yellowknife is moving down to the south Monday on a one year secondment (he's a fed). He is leaving a couple of his guitars with me for both storage and to practice on. If I'm able to pick it back up and enjoy it, I have my eye on a G&L ASAT.

He will be dropping them, and a small modelling amp off later today.

Caught up with a friend of mine from Wisconsin. He sent me pics of a guitar he had built by a local to him luthier. Sinker redwood top with cocobolo back and sides. he came up with the idea for the inlay on the headstock. You have to ignore the reflection of the fluorescent lights on the finish.

A high school friend of mine played a Harmony Sovereign, until we both picked up our Martin D-28s. They were (and still are if you can find them), pretty nice guitars. Also has a rather flat bottom. (I got this pic off the web)

My first " good " guitar was a Harmony. 67 ...maybe

There is potential here.

I needed something a little lighter than my Jazz Basses.

The stock el-cheapo strat pickup is pretty bad.

I’ll probably route the body for standard size J-bass pickups and repaint it.IMG_0508.thumb.jpeg.be77a96bb75d2b47494d70cf4a1afc41.jpeg

That's for Mammas n Pappas music. 😀

I tried to play the guitar once. I could play the "A" and "C" cord but when I tried "F" I said to myself---"This is bullshit".

My fingers couldn't reach that cord without the bones separating.

I don't know about that... What's not to like about a slope shoulder, mahogany, steel string? If it was a 14th fret you could challenge a J45.

The Yairi costs a lot more though.

Perhaps you like the Martin DSS-17 better...

Why buy new, when Used will do. 😀

I agree... both of my Martins were used. 1951 D-18 and 1963 D-28.

and my '91 Taylor 812C. My Kalamazoo Oriole lapsteel c. 1940s.

I have bought new ones, too. My '74 Guild F-30R and '96 Taylor 615 maple Jumbo.
