The first reasonable statement I've heard regarding the recall. Have you seen his recent political appointments???????? 260 in how many weeks?

Not to make any political statements or anything. Also, doesn't mean I'm a Terminator supporter either.

This country is in deep sh!te. We're down to a nice, slow spiral into the abyss.

I used to be a Republican -- now I'm just embarassed. I'm apolitical now. There is simply no representation for moderate views anymore. It's either Fascism or Socialism. It's so utterly depressing.

I believe the recall has been a good thing. Hopefully it's a wakeup call for politicians in the other states that have similar laws. While it was boosted by some big money conservatives, there were over a million and a half people that took the time to sign the petition. At the same time I seriously doubt another recall for whomever is elected if Davis is ousted will gather any steam. It's my opinion that GD screwed up, plain and simple. Like the Beltway Boys always say, "It's the ECONOMY, stupid!". Governor Davis let the people of California get played like an ATM by a host of special interest groups. Big oil, big energy, big gambling, big insurance, the trial lawyers, you name it. If they gave money, they got favors. Now he wants to buy back his job by pandering to a host of different constituencies at the last minute. Is it a good idea to let illegal immigrants have drivers licenses? Maybe so. But who's going to pay for all the insurance? I'll give you one guess.

Sorry for the rant,

Chris

(very happy to be living in California, even now)

Really ? - In a state where there are over 30 Million People, you don't think anyone could find another 1.5 Million pissed off people?

This recall is a joke - Changing Governors will do nothing. The problem is not the politicians - It's uneducated voters!

A cowboy would be cool. I like cowboys.

Gee, I always thought the problem was uneducated politicians -- it's not like they give us much to choose from anymore. At any rate, not only do we have the problem of uneducated voters, but we have voter's who think they're educated because they listen to Rush Limbaugh.

We are not a democracy, and the reason we aren't is because folks like Adams and Jeffereson knew how uneducated voters would be. Of course, now the "representatives" are as retarded as most of the voters.

Heh.... Too true. Actually, almost painfully true. The past few years have been an interesting lesson in what the American public questions or understands about what is going on in the World, or even in their own country. From bait and switch to simple appeal to the emotions, the American public seems to have little defense and even less comprehension. Sadly, I dont really see the light at the proverbial end of the tunnel...unless it's the train.

...and the worst aspect of it all that it is happening in the only remaining so-called super power! If it was some kind of obscure backwater -who'd care? But whatever the US does causes repercussions around the globe - and then the American public is surprised that the reigning President doesn't get a favourable press abroad??? Hopefully there will be some/remain 'open-eyed' people to correct the outcome of your last general election. But the Arnold phenomenon raises doubts.

Sorry for this 'outlandish' comment - after all our politicians AND voters aren't much better!!!

Cut Throat,

You're could very well be right on all counts except changing Governors doing nothing. I totally disagree with you there. What we don't know is if the changes will be better for large groups of Californians. There are some very serious issues out there that aren't even on the national media radar. Like water policy, term limits challanges, UC admissions, Coastal Commission reform and a host of others. Even so, I'm still glad that people are talking, arguing, ranting and the like. I just got back from my polling place and it was packed! We still have punchcard machines and most people were holding up their ballots to the light, checking for hanging chads. It was fantastic! Think about it. It's possible that over 70% of the state's 15.3 million voters are going to do a very American thing today, VOTE! There will be an almost certain majority decision on the question of the recall. It's the much smaller number of people that may decide on a new Governor if Davis is recalled that worries me. Still, California remains a very dynamic place and it's exciting to witness this process firsthand.

BTW, as far as "uneducated voters" are concerned, just how much and what type of political education would make the electorate acceptable to you? And I'm assuming that you consider yourself amongst those with acceptable levels of issue awareness. Correct?

Regards,

Chris

If you are defending the knowledge of the average American voter, I disagree. When over 95% of American Voters cannot name the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Over 84% cannot name their U.S. Representative and over 76% cannot name one of their U.S. Senators, I have got to believe they are a little fuzzy on the issues also.

Most of these same people can name the people that were finalists on American Idol. They will get all the information they need from the Rush Limbaugh show and the National Rifle Association ads on who to vote for.

If this recall was democracy in action, what was last years election in November? - Maybe you'd like to have an election every 6 months.

This should be a signal to the dems. They are bringing it on themselves. ILLEGAL aliens are eligible for in-state tuition at California colleges ...but U.S. CITIZENS from other states DO NOT QUALIFY !!! What kind of crap is that??? Liberal democrat crap ...that's what kind.

They need to pull their heads from out between their buttocks. If they are going to make a mockery of working taxpayers, they deserve to get bounced out on their bums.
