colterphoto1
ARRRGGGHH, A good friend, I mean REALLY good friend (or he would not be alive today) came to my place last night. I'm trying to get over bachelor-itis by inviting folks over every couple of days. Keeps me a bit more accountable for housekeeping and thus far it's working. Place is getting shaped up. So this guy's a bachelor too, tons of money, way too tidy condo, gold records on the wall, etc. Got Bose systems in every frigging room, 50" plasma hung from mantle, etc. Real stereo junkie, except that all his beautiful Pioneer Elite gear is hooked up to tiny cubes. He's over last night and we're watching the Roxy Music DVD and Yes Symphonic and I've got the Corns cranked and 16 hz organ pedal notes are rolling across the floor and we're talking music. He turns to me and says 'yeah, I'd put Klipsch right up there with Bose' . I wanted to rip his head off right then, but I knew it was pointless. DrWho
lol, sounds like you've got a deaf friend.... how bout this....the next time I come over invite him to bring his Bose over to demo for "the young college boy" ...basically baiting him to "show off." They're tiny cubes, it couldn't be that hard to transport. Then we can even bust out the comparator and do a side by side for him! man that would be hilarious. I promise to be good mannered ....where's the "mischevious grin" smiley?
psg
My sympathies... Really.
DrWho
I was just thinking...I got the same reaction from my dad....he thinks his bose sound identical to my chorus II's! I think he's being stubborn though....he did make one comment after I ripped everything out when I moved off to college: "hmmm, where'd the bass go?" lol. So perhaps your friend is just being stubborn and is delluded by the thought that he has the epitomy of everything...after all, he does have "Bose"! hahahaha Btw, if he turns down the demo offer I suggest you offer to haul your cornwalls over to his place for a little comparison. DrWho
Better yet....invite him over when I come over and I'll just casually bash bose like we always do, just to spur a reaction of course. And then we can kindly tell him our reasoning and ruin his listening enjoyment for the rest of his life []
Olorin
He turns to me and says 'yeah, I'd put Klipsch right up there with Bose' . Michael Yeah, I'd put Toyota right up there with Kia. Yeah, I'd put Yamaha right up there with RCA. Yeah, I'd put Fender right up there with Washburn. Yeah, I'd put epoxy right up there with Elmer's glue. Yeah, I'd put dogs right up there with earthworms. Yeah, I'd put Maui right up there with Topeka. Yeah, I'd put Led Zeppelin right up there with Jessica Simpson. brennyE
the only bose products i have auditioned have been the supercube system and a pair of $2500 bose floorstanders. the floor standers had some sort of inbuilt amp for the bas driver, and it was the worst loudspeaker I have heard at that price range (it was like the bass and treble were set to the extreme!) TBrennan
Colter----I dunno, a guy who can listen to LaScalas and Heresys rapping Bose? Bose may have their faults but they don't sound like, well name your favorite powertool or process. How's about a boilermaker arc-gouging with two strapped cells from a Miller 8-pack cranked wide open?

I am probably one of the few that knows EXACTLY what you are talking about![] We air arced about 100 feet of weld out of 1 1/2" plate a while back and there wasn't anywhere you could go in the building to get away from the need for ear plugs..... and it is a large building, say able to house up to 15 Goodyear blimps at the same time with lots of room left over between them. Michael, that guy was just trying to pay Klipsch a complement the best he knew how. A side by side demo is really needed as the precise reason you built your comparer is to avoid the lack of audio memory we have. Good luck! Spkrdctr
What you guys need to remember is that some people just don't care about quality of sound. He bought Bose and he likes it. That tells you right away that all the demos in the world will not change anything, as he is basically deaf. People with serious hearing problems buy Bose. So a demo will NOT help. They will not "hear" anything different. Sad to say, but many people just can't hear diddly..............
Bill H.
Michael, Sorry that your friend couldn't hear the difference............. The best complement I have received, was from my daughter........when her friends were over. My daughter turns to them and proclaimed "My dad has awesome Klipsch speakers".......... made my day that she could hear the clarity! travisc
If he's truly a good friend then its your duty to lend him a pair(not like you dont have something kicking around not being used). let him come to his own conclusion with some good old a/b comparison in his own home. I had a pair of Bose 601's? huh dont even remember anymore. Anyways 6 somethings. Forte II came along quick a/b test, and the Bose where history!! Def Leper
You can scan though magazines and put together a nice condo, nifty furniture, cool TV's and all that stuff. But you can't develop a good ear by buying what you see in magazines. Face it, people with no artistic discernment, tin ears, and bad taste need things to spend their money on, too. That's why there is a place in the world for Pontiac Aztecs, iPods, Hillary Duff CD's, hip-hop, and yes-- Bose speakers.
TommyC
Hey the "expert" at our local Best Buy/Magnolia told me that the reason Klipsch was out on a metal rack next to the Bose display was that Klipsch was way more comparible to Bose than to the "High End" speakers in the Magnolia rooms! Must be true, he had a name tag and was at Least 22 years old!
el jopez
Figures he would have no comprehension of Hi-Fi audio products or the history of the market. I guess if it looks good, then it must sound good. After all Jessica Simpson sells quite a few albums everyonce in a while. Now go forth and spread the message, making disciples of many, and correcting those in error. Joe
TommyC
Now go forth and spread the message, making disciples of many, and correcting those in error. Joe I have actually been asked to leave this particular BB for doing just that in the recent past!
