jpm
I never missed vinyl when I converted to cd. When I hear vinyl played in the boutique audio stores, it invariably sounds dead and lifeless.
garymd
Gee. Mine sounds completely different then you describe. It all depends on your gear I suppose. Have fun with your CeeDees![]
mark1101
I'm not going to say anything about the vinyl, but since you gave it up (something I did a couple of years ago), get a good sound card and fast PC and plug the PC into the system. There is great downloadable music out there in lossless formats such as SHN and FLAC. You can either make the CDs or play straight from the PC. It's the future whether we like it or not, and a lot of the tunes out there sound pretty darn good "made at home". It's just another fun thing to experiment with since the vinyl will be gone. I never saw myself as the "downloader" type, but once you find software that you like for doing format conversions, it's simple. I was surprised at how good some of it sounds. nuclearay
I'm wit'choo Duke. Got a ton of wax been sittin out in the garage for years. Before that it was sitting in a spare bedroom for years... before that it sat in storage -- for years. I just don't have the desire to listen to it: Reasons are numerous. Probably never had the right equipment, but nevertheless, not going to get it now.

Timmikid
I could not do without vinyl. With a good set up, c'mon, sure it sounds great! And yes a good setup new nowadays is more expensive than a new cd player. It's fine mechanical equipment that needs fine tuning. That's harder than a well thought of IC multiplied a million times. Don't forget a record often needs good cleaning, if you put on an old thrift store piece with peanutbutter out of the 1950's sure it sounds like a campfire! Next to the sound, ofcourse it is also nice to have a thick cardboard piece of art with a nice story on it and readeable lyrics in your hands compared to a piece of cracked plastic. O well... At least we all enjoy the music, do we? [ip][H]

edwinr
You'll regret it, Duke. I got rid of all my vinyl a few years ago. Now I'm building it back up. And vinyl isn't necessarily the domain of the SET fanatics. Normal people appreciate vinyl too.[6]
bookman
My feelings about vinyl are mixed. I'm old enough to have grown up with it,so naturally I have alot of records. Some of this music probably won't be digitized and that keeps me hanging in. Duke is right about the sound of digital. With more 5.1 out there every day and DTS HD coming, I'm not putting any more into VINYL.
