  1. Was it worth taking the day off to wear the most uncomfortable clothes I own, driving an hour and a half through Dallas traffic, fighting my social anxiety to be part of a crowded room full of strangers? For this man and his family, most certainly yes. I am truly grateful to have been a small part of today's events, to meet Boxx's family, and to celebrate a life well lived. In overhearing conversations, his eulogy, and brief conversations with his family is was evident that Boxx was the same here as he was everywhere else. A wonderful husband, a doting father, a loyal friend .. he was goofy and loved to have a good time, always welcoming, intelligent, and most certainly a music lover. So the Boxx we knew was the Boxx everyone knew, and that warms my soul. Alex, the soundtrack you put together was a perfect amalgam of his favorite artists and it was as though he made it himself. Great selections that had me tapping my toes and recalling fond memories of late night jam sessions. His eulogy was presented by his best friend and also included a beautiful message by Boxx's daughter Genevieve. A few musical selections were played as well, including "Time" and "High Hopes" - I think Boxx would have loved these selections for not only the personal importance they have in his family's life, but also the fact that he got a full chapel of multi-generational people to sit through two very slow Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd songs. I cried the whole time. Dave and the PAW: you guys knocked it out of the park with the flowers. Thank you for taking that initiative and making it happen so quickly. Forum guys: It was both weird and humbling to represent a whole segment of people that could have easily doubled the number of people in attendance. I know this forum, and all of the love and support put forth by its members, means a great deal to the family. If any of you were there, my apologies for not seeking you out. So many people in such a tight space started to overwhelm me and I needed to duck out. Boxx family: Thank you for alerting us so quickly and allowing us to support you and grieve with you. It would have been just as easy to let us know retroactively, or not at all. It was indeed a privilege to to be there in honor of your husband and dad. Alex and Genevieve: I sincerely hope you guys stick around and interact from time to time, continuing your dad's legacy and leaving your own mark. I really appreciate you taking the time to speak with me and I'd really like to get to know you more, here or "offline". I thoroughly enjoyed your dad and it's clear that his influence is found in you both, and that makes me think I'd enjoy you as well. Michele: Thank you for sharing your husband with us. He spent a ton of time here, but it should never be considered a wasted effort - our lives are enriched as a result of knowing him. I have no doubt your support network is vast, but please don't ever hesitate to reach out to the brothers of Klipsch if you need anything. Stay thirsty my friend. - Michael

  2. Hey Chad....I'm going to need some more "likes" today! Already read many good post and have used my quota and its only 6:45 am. Heading down the road with four friends for a little field trip to this dumpy little store next to a river in the next county......bar-b-que on the menu. Only a half hour each way. 25 degrees headed to a high of 40 today. Need a second cup. Cheers Gents

  3. Michael, My father would have been touched to read your write up. I know I was. I enjoyed creating such a thoughtful and meaningful playlist in honor of my Dad. These are the songs that I will always remember my Dad playing- it is so funny how sometimes it's the little things that remind you and shape your memories forever. My Dad was a unique and genuinely awesome person. I look forward to carrying on his legacy here in the Forum, and by reading and writing about things that will remind me of him. It will certainly help to keep his memory alive. Please message me anytime. I would love to chat with you. Thanks so much for attending, it meant a lot to me. -Genevieve

  5. mornin' guys. Snowy morning in Denver metro but should warm up later. Aubrey is doing fairly well but probably another 2 nights in the hospital. Looks like it's part of a respiratory virus hitting kids and old folks primarily and spreading through our state and others. ABC did a piece on it. Hopefully we'll be back to 'normal' (whatever that is) shortly. Happy Friday and cheers to all.

  8. It's strange, even when everyday can be Friday or Saturday night when the real day rolls around it still feels better, like you should do something special. I guess it's all the years of training ? But on the other side of that Sunday nights mean a whole new thing now, much better than before.

  16. Greeting Friends and Welcome … The Lord allots us a certain number of days in this life—it would do us well to take the time to do some serious self-examination as to how we are going to use them. If we choose to spend our lives solely in pursuit of selfish gain, always putting ourselves above others – this room will be empty when our time ends. Boxx chose a vocation that has the goal of helping others. Why? I wish I could have sat with him, listening to tunes and talking about life; perhaps then I’d know what made him such a kind, caring soul. So I will just consider Boxx to have been a blessing. One of those people that you meet and walk away knowing something good just happened to you. Just because Boxx was a forum friend, doesn’t make him any less a friend. If we’re genuine, so are the friendships that we form here. Undoubtedly, if it had been one of us, Boxx would have been one of the first to say something poignant. He contributed greatly to this forum, whether it was a kind word or an epic .gif – he was here, for all of us. Miles away; but, still reaching out. Words can’t fully ease the heartache that we feel right now – I don’t think they’re supposed to. Words aren’t magic. There is a lesson in our pain. Boxx was a teacher and through his passing may he continue to teach us to value our friendships. May he teach us that we must not take for granted our time, our purpose, our relationships—none of which we created, none of which we own; but all of which have been entrusted to us. May he teach us that we are all just passing through this life and we should strive to leave each other in a better condition than when we met. Mourn, it’s okay to do that; but, don’t only mourn—I suspect that Boxx would want us to smile when we remember him. He tried to make the lives of others better … and he succeeded. I salute you Boxx. I miss you, and I’m grateful to have known you my friend. Steve

  17. Good for you, sounds like a good shop and I agree with what you said and your right if you are fair with people they appreciate it. Most people are happy to just not get ripped off and are willing to pay a fair price. Have fun, a job doesn't have to be a pain, the works hard enough already. A good mechanic is hard to find is more true now than ever. Especially one with Klipsch speakers in their shop. Good fortune to you in the new year! Very true, and yes MKP, hope you and the wife have a great year at the shop, have fun, laugh more, tell her how much you appreciate her.(it never hurts) Or crazy neighbor went to a shrink once and he gave her great advice. "Enjoy yourself, have fun, this is not a rehearsal this IS your life, don't waste it making yourself miserable and angry" She hasn't changed a bit, it would be very sad to be on your last days thinking how much better things could have been, what could be worse ?

  27. Not sure how it works either...never spent much time here. However, wanted to mention again Boxx as moderator. Most of us enter an iffy situation here as though we arrived at a fire in a gasoline truck, even when we are really trying to simply calm things down. All Boxx had to do was show up and things usually improved. That's the kind of man he was, and I so with I were. (blub) Dave

I did sneak in an airplane sized bottle of Apfel mit Korn (Apple Schnapps) that could discretely be consumed. It was the smallest bottle of anything that I had. See you guys at 4. I'll be the bald guy in the corner sipping discretely on a styrofoam cup.

  40. The WiSA modules are inside these prototypes, so technically the bookshelf version could become surround speakers for the towers. WiSA technology has very very low potential for interference. It's hard to add anything to that! All I will say is that with powered systems you can do things that just aren't possible with passive speakers. Had PWK had access to the type of electronics 50 years ago that we now have at our disposal, I imagine he would say the same thing, and the hardcore Klipsch-o-philes would be quoting him as saying such. And instead of bothering with crossover tweaks, they would be hacking the DSP. (Hey, I'm entitled to my opinion , no offense intended.) That said, all the stuff about horn loading, dynamic range, reducing excursion, increasing radiating area still applies, just like it did in 1946. Yes, these prototypes borrow heavily (very heavily ) from the Stadium acoustics, though Dave already has plans and has been working on improvements to the donated acoustic package - that's about all we can say at this point. Suffice it to say that the improvements work, I've heard them. If it's going to use something like apple airplay it's going to have to be wifi. I would look at the Klipsch Stadium for some of this info, as it is what the speaker is based upon (and Heritage of course). The Stadium uses Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth. I don't see why DNLA wouldn't be included as well. I wonder if there will be a transmitter sold that will connect to your AVR. Maybe Apple AirPlay already does that, but I'm not up on that system. All I have is an Apple TV in the shop, which uses something like AirPlay. Yes, the Stadium is DLNA compatible. There are a few Android music apps that will work, and Windows Media Player works too, using the "play to" function. Right now PD is calling for WiSA and Bluetooth in this design, but I'm hoping for a WiFi version as well. I'm of the opinion that in 10 years, speakers (even high end 2-channels audio only systems ) on your network will be ubiquitous, just as laptops, tablets and phones are now. We might as well get started. The biggest hurdle right now is that people think it's hard to get things connected and use them on your network. I think they just don't realize how small the learning curve is. On the Stadium you connect the USB cable to your iPhone and into the USB port, push a button, say "Allow" on you iPhone and you're done. Before that is was: connect to the speaker via WiFi, open web browser, type in and IP address (that really confuses people for some reason), select your WiFi network from the list and enter the password. The other hurdle is that since it's "electonics" prices should be coming down not going up with the passing years... in a way that is true... as mentioned we can do things now that even 10 years ago we couldn't do at any price, however, unless you "fake it" somehow (an there are a lot of people out there trying). Example: the DX-38. A fantastic piece of equipment... we still use them. But now we have other things, in 1/10th of the space and 1/10 of the cost (or less), that does the same thing, and a lot more, on a lot more channels, a lot faster. And we can put it in every unit we sell. But I digress, to complete my point, the most expensive part of amplification is the power supply (and in high-end amplifiation, the chassis -- the fancier it is the more expensive it is) and you still only get what you pay for - material costs are definitely not going down. 100W/ch 7-channel receivers don't have transformers any bigger than they were 20 years ago when they were just 2 channels. In many cases they are smaller now, so what does that tell you? (I'm speaking of 50-60Hz transformers). The laws of physics haven't changed... if you want 700 Watts, you need a 700 Watt power supply. So how do you get there? You give up headroom, or you put in a bigger power supply. Or you bi-amp. (or tri-amp, as the case may be.) And then you save the cost of the chassis entirely (ok, mostly) and put the amp in the speaker. Of course this goes against the grain of the traditional audiophile thought process. We fight this battle on two fronts here - tweaking (people wanting to swap out components or upgrade) and a potential for obsolescence. It is a paradigm shift, both in the market and corporately, but looking to the future you see it coming.

I found out about heaters with an open flame in that green house, I went to check the temp in the middle of the night and make sure the heater was still on. I started to get a headache in like 5 minutes so I went back in the house, after being out of it I noticed I was slightly dizzy. I went back in the morning realizing what happened to turn off the heater and noticed all the leaves on every plant was curled up. the oxygen got so low it was affecting the plants, that's pretty bad. Glad your watching it.
