Third cup of Community. Decided it's the biggest bargain on the shelf. Got this pount at Albertson's on sale for 4.99. I've paid three times that and got no more pleasure. Highly recommended for price/performance. Haven't yet gotten my thoughts together about the boogie woogie performance last night. Texarkana isn't just a hidden gem in American music past, it's rich, rich, rich in the musical presence. John Tennison did things with a Roland piano that bend the mind. Programming for pentatonic and what he calls "quantonal" that yields slight changes in pitch and other characteristics combined with a complete ownership of all the ghosts of the great boogie woogie artists of the past yielded a performance of past, present, and future from the hands of a complete madman whose entire body was thrown into the performance. You hadda be there... The drummer, George Buckner, melded with John's totally manic freeform boogies in a way that made it sound as if they'd been playing together for decades. If that weren't enough (and, in fact, I was already in sensory overload) they were joined for the last two sets by a c. 20 year old local boy I am going to make a very weak attempt to describe as a Hendrix with classical overtones. Try to process that! He did one 12 tone blues improvisation with John and George that reached every fibre and nerve one has. John was so blown away he turned James loose on the last tune and videoed it. The middle aged man who suggested to John he let the kid play said he was "better than Hendrix," which I mentally went "yea, sure...probably good BUT???" Gents, he may be better. Completely mild mannered, self effacing, and I'm told that as opposed Hendrix and others of that genre prone only to teetotaling an occassional glass of wine or couple of beers. I was so moved I stood up at the end and told the audience they could have been in LA, Chicago, New Orleans, New York, London, or Berline last night and heard nothing as good. Yep, that good... Still reeling. Dave9 points

Thanks guys. It is the perfect combination hobby of my love of audio and woodworking. By the way, the Roksan is a table I built for me. The others are tables I have done for some of my local friends. Today I'm going over to a friend's house and move his Pass Labs amp for him. It is too heavy for him to lift. He has severe back issues from his days in the military. We'll grab some Thai for lunch and listen to music after things get rearranged. Ya'll have a great day!7 points

Good morning everyone :emotion-44: Luther, they look GREAT, the first one looks SO massive ! Is that a Rega type arm with Exact cart in the last one ? Reminds me of my rp6 arm... Ok Chuck, I will get some photos from yesterday's work... I actually got side tracked and worked on a vintage Sony Superscope 8 track which needed a new belt, I had put it off for a number of years because the old belt had broken down into a black soupy tar like mess, if you even so touched it, it was like sticking your finger into a black inkwell !! Any way, I took a series of photos of that work which I can post. It was my mom's from the 70ies, but still looks like new.... actually got it playing, but the track solenoid is needed lubrication, as I can't change the tracks at this time... More later, coffee coming up here soon - breakfast etc.... ..........Gary7 points

Luther those tables are all works of art....just beautiful I just joined a sub group on FB called "What's On Your Turntable Right Now", about 4,000 members. Sort of like our RTM thread. Those guys would be drooling if you joined and posted those pics. If you ever start pairing down the collection let me know.7 points

o.k....I Really dig these! I like wood and you don't see much in turntables. You likely set them up with top notch components & technical perfection and balance, right? Probably out of my reach, but I am interested if you are taking orders! Thanks for sharing your craft! Beautiful!7 points

That is a real open ended question. It depends on what materials are used. You can make one out of MDF and parts from an old turntable (dual, technics, rek-o-kut, etc) for not much money. The more exotic the wood and plinth material, the higher the cost. Also what tools you own or have access to. If you have to pay for CAD drawings or CNC machine time, the cost goes up more. So far on this one, the wood was $70 and the paper stone was a piece leftover from a counter top. $200 for the Fairchild 412 turntable used for parts. Still need another tonearm and the spike feet.6 points

Evening all.... Just got caught up on all the posts.....lots going on.... Well me and the wife took a drive today to pick up a fire proof cabinet for the shop. We had a guy from out insurance company come out to the shop a few weeks ago. He gave us list of all kinds of shitt we have do. It's a bunch of crapp. Also my parts washer needed to be serviced, it's the type of parts washer that recycles the solvent. It's a great machine. So with the cost of the cabinet and the service call for the parts washer, not to much profit at the shop this week....oh well....cost of doing buisness.. Anyway wishing all the best.....good night all.... MKP :-)6 points

On a high note, my wife called Lowes Corporate and they said they will warranty it. The local people don't have a clue, so the corporate customer support said to give anyone who questions it their 800 number and they will handle it. They have logged it in their system, so anyone can pull the support ticket. I guess you have figured out from this that my wife is my better half and the one who takes care of me and she like audio. I love this woman. I did cut the wood for the the new turntable base. It is marblewood. It cuts like oak. I still need to add some corner supports that will house the spike feet and a cutout for an IEC power connector. Here is a quick picture during the mockup process using a little homemade jig.6 points

Hey gang. Will have to catch up on 'likes' (esp the georgeous turntables) later. Much to attend to, incuding my daughter in law who had a miscarraige last night. It was an early one but pretty upsetting to her. Will check back later or maybe on Monday. Take care and have a good day all.5 points

Ok, before I start my music work for the day..... (then more playing around with the Azur pre) Dave, thanks for the well explained review on your live music experience!, sound like a great time there... Mark, thanks for joining me in the Starbuck's brand... Which roast do you drink? Still have some of the Italian sitting in the burr grinder.... We have been doing the Melitta of different grades and those have been very nice. Anyone else here try the Melitta brand? I am sure you have it in your local markets. We found it plentiful in N.C. OK, I will stop in later and hopefully have some photos to upload of my 8 track cleaning/belt change project.... Enjoy your morning everyone, FOURTH MUG going down now....4 points

Hey Ben, nice to see you. I’ll take one with the gals for memories sake. This will actually be the first time meeting them; but, i know Brian May, who i’ve met and talked to several times, said once (not about me) sometimes he’d rather someone approach him as a friend and just shake hands and say “hello” rather than want a photo or an autograph. makes sense to me. i will not ask for autographs or photos…i’ll let someone sign something if they offer; but, i will not ask.4 points

Guess I'm the minority. I have own the RC-64ii and have owned RC-7. I've never felt the RC-64ii was inferior in any way from the RC-7. Both are fantastic speakers and IMO, the RC-64ii sounds a bit more refined.3 points

Husqavarna still makes pretty good chainsaws. My brothers ex-wife's step son's significant other, Scott, is/was a lumberjack and said Husqvarna was one of the best along with Jonsered which is what we had since 1978 until around 1998 when we bought a new one after Dad passed away. The old Jonsered still going strong but could no longer get parts though I think Mike's co-worker and pastor made what he needed. he place where Dad purchased it still had on file that Dad had bought it in 1978. Wore out the ancient McCulloch. Got new one. Killed it in a year or two. Dad bought the Jonsered. It cut through hard dried maple better than the new McCulloch could cut soft green wood. Never saw anybody as good with a chainsaw as Scott. Had almost forgotten that they're supposed to produce shavings and not saw dust when cutting. Saw a bit. Sharpen chain. Continue. Somebody stole our new Jonsered a few years back so Mike bought another pro grade from a different store but son of long time friend of Dad's. I think Scott said that Husqvarna, Jonsered and this other brand now all made by the same company? Love our Stihl straight shaft string trimmer and think of them as maker of very good trimmers, chain saws, etc.3 points

I was looking at their trimmers glad to kno2 i should purchase the warranty.Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk Luther.... this is why you should spend a few more $$$ and buy good power tools from a REAL dealer with a service department and not a big box store. Have not had any issues with my Still FS85 bought new back in '98 with minimal maintenance. A few issues with Cub Cadet lawn tractor bought used - the electric clutch went out and muffler was too rusty to re-use ... has worked fine since though needs a new battery or more acid. Only a few issues with pro grade Simplicity walk behind snow blower. Mostly my own making - tried to push a railroad tie through it. Janked things up pretty good before it broke the shear pin. Then tried to push slush through it .... bad idea - bent up 2nd stage on that one. Other than that let it get out of adjustment bad enough it didn't go. Felt stupid on that one as I took it to a localish dealer as the dealer in town bit the dust. Great mechanic.... terrible at running a business. Good luck with your yard gear. I did have to "fix" my mower deck. Some ID10T had mowed over an old t shirt and get it wedged really tight into the blades and pulleys. Changed blades and much better... had previously mowed a chunk off the top of a rock I hadn't seen and had been clubbing grass for a while. Highly recommended to buy from store / dealer that services what it sells. Can't wait to see TT plinth pics. I have a vintage Garrard AT6 Mk II from a console with Shure M44E? or something like that. Has manual and plinth template. Worth using a good hunk of cedar, other word, or marble to make a new plinth? Need to inspect and clean up. Looks to be in real good shape. Have to get out my magnifying mirror etc and inspect the stylus.3 points

LF was in South Carolina yesterday and filled up for $1.93 a gallon. Gary.....can you take pictures of the tt maintenance you're doing as well as the new pre? Pulling all the vinyl down from the cabinets....man I've got some good stuff here I'll have to listen to one day Sorry about the lawn mower Luther....things like that frustrate me. My grass has slowed a bit. May wait till Monday to mow.3 points

I love Vodka and Cranberry...Never tried Pomegranite.... You have given me inspiration Mine consist of a short glass chocked full of ice with vodka poured to about a 1/4 inch from the top, and then just a drizzle of cranberry/pomegranite juice, sip, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.... I find it less sweet than cranberry alone. Okay...Im in trouble with this...on number 4 already and want more ...Tall glass, Ice to the top 1 1/2 shots Ketel One and 2 1/2 shots Nortland Cranbery/Pomegranate Juice2 points
