  1. Pair of MC 30's that I originally purchased for 50 dollars each. A buddy of mine picked up 4 Mc 30s for 200 bucks at some sort of surplus store, and sold me two of them. I used them for years and for some stupid reason I sold them to buy a solid state amp. I have learned my lesson. As much as I move things in and out of my system, I do not sell the McIntosh equipment!
  2. A very cool analogue limited edition 45rpm Corey Chisel "live in the studio" recording. Great recording great music
  3. Great Mod! I have owned a number of integrated amps and receivers that allowed for the use of the pre amp section or power amp section. Its quite common. I have found that flexibility very useful.

    What I Got Today!

The re issue C22. This is awesome!
  5. I agree with the Beatle haters’ ( aka the nice gentleman in the suburbs of DC) perspective. I believe that everyone should get paid fairly for what they produce and I don’t think that the streaming companies do that. I have a number of friends who are musicians many who have backed up on what one would consider successful records and it’s like a bad joke when they get a check for $1.69 . Yes in the heyday of vinyl they needed to sell a lot to make good dough but this new world is ridiculously unfair. I certainly admit that It is hard to maintain this ethical stance given the plethora of good music and curated play lists available on platforms such as Tidal. I still buy music and have for the most part resisted the allure of streaming. But I have to admit that buying a CD and then ripping it to my server and storing the CD feels way more cumbersome for me these days than it used to be!
  6. "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts" Attributed to Einstein but who knows if that's accurate. It's a great quote for audio and for other places where art meets science!
  7. Curious, Do you use something similar?
  8. Cdinmb I know you asked Jim .... but here is what I use on my vintage amps. I have used them on fishers scotts and macs. They work great. http://www.ebay.com/itm/8pcs-x-Spade-Banana-Fork-plug-Mcintosh-Amp-Eico-tube-Adapters/221341662899?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40130%26meid%3D1f3fae100c0f4677957927bd9ec2e36d%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D170752980683
  9. Great. Choice on the mc 30s. There are differences between the vintage macs but they all are awesome. What are you using for a preamp? Are you going to be playing vinyl?
  10. Thank you for this thread. I put my MC225 back into service and wow what was I thinking. This is one sweet power amp. This thread also forced me to order a new c22 preamp. Cant wait.
  11. Hello. Is this still available? If so I will commit to purchase. Let me know and I'll send you the dough!
  12. In case you have not noticed, people on Internet forums occasionally recommend what they use as a solution to every newbie question. I would suggest you take some time and as suggested peruse the talkin tubes section and ground yourself before you head down one road or another.
  13. In the olden days on the forum the most aggressive arguments were among the tube aficionados themselves. SET vs Push Pull. Those were some fun conversations to witness. The thread would normally last about a day and go on for three or four pages before it was shut down. In regard to the question at hand….until recently I was 100% in the tube camp. I have owned and still own a number of both vintage and modern tube amps and I could never find a satisfying solid state amp. Recently with the Benchmark AHB2 I have to say I am more than satisfied. But reading jimjimbos post about his new MC225 had me interested in putting mine back in the saddle. In fact I was planning on doing that this evening but ran out of steam! Probably will do so this weekend. So maybe I still do prefer tubes! I see in this thread that jimjimbo prefers solid state macs driving his chorus’ . So jim what are you driving with the mc225? and I am curious about what characteristics of the different speakers do you think lend themselves to ss versus tubes? I can say that I definitely prefer a tubed phono stage. Haven't found a solid state one - at least that I would want to pay for - that would match my current phono. IMHO Your mileage may vary.
  14. Really depends on how much you listen to records. If you a fairly large collection and you enjoy the experience of futzing with Lps. Then upgrade the tt. Otherwise go the other way! I don't know a lot about the Tt you have so I cannot say that a 700 dollar option would be significantly better
  15. The style of music you mostly listen to will dictate the species of cacti that will provide the best or more appropriate needle. Certainly there is a lot of love for the saguaro when mated with a proper arm is magical for acoustic jazz and girls with guitars. For Jumpier music the choice is always the Cholla. At least that is my experience . Yours may certainly vary.

  17. I have never seen a plinth made from rubber. I do use rubber feet for my turntable - recycled tire rubber. I bought them at a nursery - they are used to put under planing pots. Best isolating feet I have found and certainly among the most cost effective! Not sure if a plinth made from the same material would be substantial enough to hold its shape. But the isolation would be second to none! I would be interested to see what you come up with! Josh
