  1. Congratulations, I've got a pair of those puppies too. What I read here on the forum years ago is worth a try. Roll a towel around a scrap of 2 x 4 the width of each LaScala and put it under the front to just aim the cabinets up a little. This helps eliminate the standing waves with the floor and aims up the tweeters a little more to ear level rather than the navel (pole dancer humour here). My LaScalas are in from the outside walls about half the distance that is between them (1-2-1 ratio) so the horns have room to spread without hitting side walls too soon. Slainte. Hamish
  2. ditto to Hammertop in Wisconsin. Salisbury has got some great bass lines. - not to mention some great wahwah pedal.
  3. Hey Amy, Trey & Mikey!! This guy deserves first prize for most original thread. What a riot - the photos look they are from some old Hipgnosis Pink Floyd cover - all it needs is the mushroom cloud in the background. Thanks for sharing, G Kennedy. Slainte. Hamish
  4. And the 'Trail of Tears Golf Course' - Firesign Theatre could mix a few words together that would very quickly create instant imagery in your mind, or drop a wickedly true social comment in your lap, then - poof - you were on to the next one. You really had to pay attention, but after 35 years, it still sticks. Slainte Hamish
  5. pauln - I'll be on your doorstep about 4 in the morning some day. BTW, Buckster, "When the Battle is Over" is a pipe tune. Slainte. Hamish
  6. Hi hygog. One thing I do (that I learned on the forum here years ago) is two get a couple of 2 x 4s cut the width of the cabinet, wrap them in towels so you don't scratch the floor and you get a little cushion effect, then prop them under the fronts so the cabinets are aimed up a little at the front. This helps cut standing waves with the floor and brings the horns a little more to ear level. I'm using this setup with the LaScalas in corners right now - and get a good bottom end. If you were going to suspend the LaScalas, it might be an idea to try them upside down, so once again, the horns are near ear level, and they would really need a sub. They aren't the easiest things to move around, but it might be an idea to play around with placement on a temporary basis, before they're locked into a permanent (ie-stands or suspended) mode. Good luck. Slainte. Hamish
  7. I've been using a Yamaha RX-V1300 6:1 receiver for about 6 years with Klipsch RF3s, RC3, and RS3s for about 3 years. I've been quite happy with the sound, performance and build of the Yamaha as it gets a fair bit of use. My system is used for HT a fair bit but I also use it for the dts audio CDs and DVDs. 'Strange Days' by the Doors is awesome. For overall versatility, it is a combo hard to beat. ditto to Mikey on buying from the local dealer/boutique. When I bought my Yamaha from a local dealer, they were competitive with a quote from a box store plus the advantages of dealing with a real person, warranties, and etc. Have fun and keep us posted. Slainte. Hamish
  8. I run Cornwalls with my Marantz 2235. The Cornwalls dig deep for bass - especially in a corner. The Marantz gives a 'warmer' sound that goes with the music I like - female voice - Celtic - classic rock. So I hope you enjoy your setup as much as I enjoy mine - Slainte. Hamish
  9. Welcome to the forum. And a great pix of your setup. I'd ditto what 'oldtimer' is saying. I have rs-3s for back surrounds and like having the option of changing placement if I wanted to. With ceiling and wall speakers, you're really locked in. I don't have a centre rear Klipsch either (sigh) but would like to stick a RC-3 or updated version in there. I'm wondering if a couple of gimballed and adjustable ceiling mounts could hold your Rs-3s. They would be out of the way but also adjustable. What kind of movies and music are you listening to? 10. to our buddies in the US - Have a great Birthday!! Slainte - Hamish
  11. It's amazing!!! It's the mears.
  12. In the next dimension, Malcolm will be waiting for you at the gate. I'm sorry for your loss. Take care. Hamish
  13. Here's a scenario I read about a couple of weeks ago. A limited nuclear engagement (if there could be such a thing once the genie is out of the bottle) of about 40 weapons would create a nuclear winter to negate the global warming trend. Heck of a world we're leaving our kids. Hamish
  14. durabond and windshield washing fluid is quick
  15. duplicate post - I can get an animated gif in the message box, but not on my avatar - stoopid computers Hamish
  16. This is supposed to be an animated ITCOTKC gif if it runs. Apparently, the McDonald and Giles album, Birdman, had a lot of tunes that were out-takes from the ITCOTKC and were released as a separate recording. Still remember the first time I heard ITCOTKC - downtown Burlington in a little record shop, when I was just recovering from being banged up in a car accident - and that music still blows me away. 17. Nice find Edwin, I used to have one of those years ago. There's a few bargain TT's out there as people 'upgrade' to $30 DVD players that play CDs. Here's some of my TT finds - most recent a Dual 1229Q with Shure M91ED, Thorens 125 Mk II with a Empire 400XL 1, a Bose (yes Bose!!) Model 360belt drive TT with a Audio Technica cartridge on it. For all this stuff, I'm into it for $30 so far. Half the fun is finding the stuff. Have a Foster's for me. Slainte. Hamish
  18. Thanks for posting, BobbyT, and Heideana - your reference to "Relic" was quite clever, although I'm feeling a bit that way myself these days. And about Sid getting all his royalties, PF treated him like he never left the band - and many albums have some oblique reference to Sid. Wish you were here. RIP Sid Barrett Hamish
  19. Thank kew, Gilbert - very cool write-up and I agree full ditto to all the above comments. Animals is one of the great under-rated PF ventures and I still enjoy it (as Meddle and Atom Heart Mother). I love the question and answer guitar riff at the end of Sheep - quintessentially pure rock and roll - got to love it.
  20. Your attitude says it all.... way to go, Joe
  21. ......and the wheels on the bus go round and round........lol....what a riot that is....thanks for sharing...... Hamish
  22. Hi, Congratulations, You'll love them as an addition to a great setup. In the photos, your room looks quite large. That gives them lots of air to voice in. Try a little pillow or piece of wood wrapped in a towel under the front end of each speaker just to toe them up a bit from the floor. Helps eliminate some standing waves. Hamish
  23. The album was 'Keyboard Tales' by Michael Perlitch way back in the seventies. Anybody ever heard of him and have the LP? Thanks. Hamish
  24. hey tpg, If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, walks like a duck.......it's probably be a duck. And if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. So beware. ebay is a scammer's paradise right now - better to hold off and wait for something to come your way that you're sure about. Take care. Hamish
