  1. Your right, you just never know. Just sitting round and the kids were playing a board game, I was bored and was playing with the camera. F5.6 1/15 sec iso 400 300mm with VR no tripod Had to make it small, so when it's enlarged it gets a lot of grain and looks rough. Some great lighting and shadow you caught. Well done Dtel
  2. It was relayed to me in the world of "Splits" they had an old proverb, "Orange Crate" when sitting down, (ear level) the horns are 13 3/4" raised above the base box, just exactly the size of a 1970s Orange Crate. I tried the "Crate" it worked, so I built these. even the wife stated it made a big difference. Wow, that is good looking mod. That looks close to a K-horn level too. Hmm..I have sawzall
  3. and glowsticks Ughhh..... and New Orleans My favorite dub mix line is...... boom....waba waba wabababa wabababa....boom!...waba waba wabababa wabababa wabababa wabababa....boom!...waba waba wabababa wabababa..... I bet you guys have heard this one too thanks Max, I remember that one, oh yes, I remember that one well! it made me reflect of a tumultuous time in my life, a time of years gone by.I shed a tear for it. Aaahhhh the magic of a good Lyric it can send you back cant it? :-) You sound pretty well rounded when it comes to variety. Since there are some music similarities among us, not to mention, exact age...... Lets spread some strange goodness here This one gets good 2/3's in Who doesn't like PJ? And a little rockabilly sound the really old timers here might like And one for the real geezers here.

  5. These look really close to the KLF line. Could it be that these were what led to building the KLF series?
  6. Lets just go ahead and shock the wife. Ebay poster offerings, some are better than others
  7. Wow, I know diddly about tube stuff, but that looks like a few old components stuck in there and hack solder man. Some of those leads joins have enough lead on them to double as fishing weights. I know this because I am an expert at being a hack solder...'er
  8. Forgive me djk. I didn't mean to belittle your experimentation and design in your thread, which I sort of did in a knee jerk response.
  9. I think these are. The cane and blonde color just looks good to me. I have kept these pics for a few years and have yet to see another pair like them. Maybe they are owned by a forum member now? I believe they were on Ebay at one time. Feel free to post other LS's that stand out among the crowd
  10. Green is my favorite color!

Speaking of Dtel. Your neck of the woods http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Pair-KLIPSCH-CORNWALL-CBR-Speakers-Cane-Front-Grilles-Sequential-Serials-/171266634896?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item27e0497490
  12. Yes it is! I'm no expert, but ...... I think your '81 Cornwalls have Atlas drivers with phase plug modified by Klipsch, rather than by Atlas. Google " 'Speaker Builder' Klipsch Interrview" or the like. In that interview, PWK describes the modification, as well as why they later temporarily stopped using Atlas drivers (I think) There was a Dope from Hope (c. 1980) on the difference in the frequency response due to the new phase plug. Atlas may have later adoped the mod themselves, or improved on it. I think the K55X in AK4 Klipschorns is made by Atlas for Klipsch, but Klipsch gets it out of there by crossing over to the K77 at about 4.5K (instead of the old 6K), with steep slopes (compared to the old ones) at the crossover. I don't think the X has the phase plug mod (?), but it may not need it because of the new crossover frequency. The X may sound like the X is supposed to sound only if you have steep slope crossovers at 4.5K, or close to it.. Somewhere there is a printed history of all the changes in the Klipschorn ... maybe on this forum. The last letter "E" in K-48-E = they were made by Eminence on the woofers. Pyle made the "K" series for Klipsch. Klipsch had several different woofer vendors over the years. Example: K-33-E would be the "Klipsch", part type 33 (15") woofer from Eminence. The suffix letter code generally referred to the Klipsch assigned origin/ manufacturer of the driver. B = CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply), Brownsville TX P = CTS in Paducah KY (woofers only) R = Rola (an additional "R" either stamped or handwritten also indicated replacement (often seen on K22's and K- 24's) D = K-77-D; From 2006 to the present. Essentially a K-77-F (see below) with an integral recessed mounting flange. Permits flush mounting of the tweeter from the rear, per the “Z” brackets for pre Feb 1983 Klipschorns (KH Update kit: part # 1006969) F = Philippines supplier that purchased the EV tooling (e.g. K-77-F) EV = Electro Voice (early K-33's e.g. "EV-15WK", also EV 1828 was used as the K-56 for Cornwall in 1974) G = Atlas (for K-55-G for Cornwall 1981-1983) J = Jensen (Also used for University drivers in mid- 1950s; e.g. K-5-J - University model 5A HF, and SAHF) H = Heppner (K-52-H in Cornwall-II’s) K = Klipsch (Pyle - Klipsch purchased Pyle and drivers were assembled in Hope Arkansas and at Pyle in Huntington, Indiana) E = Eminence (Primarily woofers) V = Atlas (see also notes below) M = Electro Voice (also for the Eminence K-33-M in 1967) X = Atlas (e.g. K-55-X) Ti = Titanium series (new design with titanium diaphragms) Interesting.... Thanks for posting Moray!

Im betting those woofers are..... A OK, unless they are actually torn. Here is an old thread on the powdery white residue that shows up on them. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/55381-discolored-rubber-of-forte-woofers/
  14. The K-horn cab has to be one of the most sophisticated builds out there and a tough one to actually get correct, when it comes to production speakers. Now back to the LaScala, I applaud all the guys out there looking for improvements and a real break through, IMO, nothing has been a clear winner yet. I like your blower reference, it is a good point and shows how not only application uses have changed, but rotor designs have been improved much with new helical rotor designs. However, the LaScala is still the LaScala and just like anything else, if there was some sort of mod that actually made sense, wouldn't we would all be doing it?
  15. The poor LaScala. It seems its always being bastardized with an idea of some magical Swan Song Bass mod. I can surely appreciate everyone looking for a clear breakthrough in performance and keeping the low distortion, but somewhere PWK has to be smiling at all these attempts that never are a clear winner above his original design, given the cabinet space.
  16. Since I don't have any wall treatments, I have sound that seems to "gather" in the mid horn of my La Scalas that are my rears, but only when listening to two channel audio from my mains. I never noticed it when the La Scalas were my fronts and Chorus's were my rears. I don't think this is the same issue you are having, yet I hear some funky things from time to time. I could swear sometimes I think Im listening to 5 channel audio, yet Im not. Maybe some fabric on the La Scala mid and tweet might help?
  17. Who needs horns when you have a set of those? Im listening to my horns with my ears amplified by horns !
  18. Some may have been here, but loads of cool and strange horn setups http://www.audiovoice-acoustics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168
  19. Thats no problem. Im not in any rush. I really don't know what the AK-2 upper Network and the bass caps are worth for an outright sale, but I will get a photo of them. Maybe Dean will know what a fair price is. They do already have the female terminals for your drivers so you could just plug them in on the second set of tabs on the drivers. You would however have to cut the wires on your current driver tabs to remove the upper network because they were soldered from the factory.
  20. If you could teleport them to my house, I would send you a PayPal +3% right this minute
  21. Did I miss the guy that hit you in the head with a sledgehammer? Glad you're OK!
  22. What you need is a diversion tactic! A Diamond, some Gold or both! Every woman has a weakness
