  1. Pictures are definitely good as that will show if there's something burnt on them or not soldered in right. Personally, I wouldn't go crazy on the crossovers unless there's something visually wrong with them. Now, if there are electrolytics in the circuit, those would maybe merit a change. Resistors can make a little bit of difference but it's all about how much you want to spend on them to chase that last bit of %. If they aren't sounding like you want them to sound, find speakers that do. I personally haven't heard the 1's or 2's since they were first made but barely listened to them as the "stars of the show" were the 3's and 4's. I've owned 3 pairs of 3's so far and have version 1's now.
  2. I did do capacitor and resistor changes on the CF-3 v3's I had a few years back and noticed some differences. Not major, though. Now I have a set of CF-3 v1's and they're going to stay mostly stock. The only caps that have been changed are the caps in the woofer circuit as they are electrolytics and had drifted over time plus a resistor that was charred. They were replaced with polyester caps with the same values and were tested. Like @Chief bonehead (Roy) has said plenty of times... "It’s about the WHOLE network and voltage transfer curves" I'm good with that.
  3. @Marquez If it's a free offer, wouldn't that be a personal choice thing for anyone interested? Why question free? (excluding shipping, I believe) You've been a member here since 6/2019 and that's quite the interesting first post to me, I guess.
  4. Jeez....another set??? Great speakers for sure. I know for a fact my CF-3 v1's won't ever leave now. Even if I came across a set of CF-4 v1's for reasonable, I feel like I need to keep the 3's, too. But like everything, that's subject to change with minimal to no notice. Congrats!
  5. I would imagine all those yellow polyester caps are still in spec and I bet the blue ones that look like what came out of Heresy II's are as well. I left those in my CF-3 v1's versus changing them out, this time.
  6. Seems like I've read where someone in this forum was an income tax person but I may be wrong. I have what might be a simple question about a 1099-NEC and how much it changes our taxes by adding it in, which I do know to do, of course. Ok, the basic of it is me wondering how this makes sense. My wife and I file Married filing jointly. I do some side work for the Dr she works for and got a 1099-NEC. We end up doing the standard deduction because itemizing is lower deduction and, in doing so, show to get back $984 between state and federal. Now, when I add in the 1099-NEC, I realize there will be taxes on those earnings but I guess what threw me off is it goes to us owing $1,023 which is a swing of $2,007. The 1099 is for $5,520 so that equates me to paying a tad over 36% in taxes on that amount? Maybe that's right and how they stick it to us.
  7. How about them Hogs! Guess it's Gone-zaga now.
  8. Those guys sure do love their measurements.
  9. Blown like voice coil burnt or locked up? Or is it a sound you're hearing? These woofers do have issues with the glue coming undone on the dustcaps, occasionally the surrounds, and also the spider. Is it just noisy?
  10. Placement as in how far apart, distance to listening spot, distance from speakers to back and side walls, toe in, etc?

    Cf-4

Everything is crazy priced anymore....new and used.
  12. One system upstairs in our new house and nothing anywhere downstairs. Unless you count a mix of 8 Google Nest Hubs and Minis in various rooms. It's nice to have gotten rid of a lot of clutter but it was fun in the earlier years.
  13. Pull the 6 rubber cups where the speaker grills attach and the screws are behind those.
  14. Well, that would be an easy trip for me since I'm just a little under 3 hours away from Hope plus access to all sorts of vehicles. Now if I can just get drawn....lol
  15. The question is....can YOU hear a difference in them or is it something that you "think" you hear a difference in them because they're slightly different?
  16. 40 point margins at sheet. I wonder what early pay term discounts were on the line back then for them. Seemed like we had close to 50 point margins on Paradigm and JBL back in that era but maybe it was less.
  17. Me personally, I'd leave the stock poly caps as they are on those and replace the electrolytics with some polyester caps and call it good. That's what was done recently on my CF-3 v1's, per Roy's suggestion, and they sound just fine. As the Chief says, it's all about the voltage transfer curve on the crossover as a whole. As far as that back panel goes, knock that joker out of there and re-attach it back in. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/159405-klipsch-epic-owners-group/&do=findComment&comment=2673811 But, regardless, I'd be glad to help out. I can wield my Hakko soldering iron no problem. lol
  18. I've got a set of CF-3 v1's that are satin black and the paint looks awful. Not scratched up really...just bad paint job. I'm going to strip the paint off, square up all corners, and re-veneer them in either ribbon mahogany, walnut, or cherry. Easy on these as there are only 3 sides to cover on each and no front facing trim. Me personally if I had your Fortes, I'd strip them and re-veneer. I'm not as much a fan of seeing all the black paint left in the grain...and especially if that's oak underneath (which I already like the least of all grains). If they weren't gouged up much, my other option would be to paint them back black. That's a black satin paint on them....not stain.
  19. Were these used as a midrange for your Klipschorns or as the whole HF section? I sometimes think I want to build a set of Jubilee clones and don't have room for 402 horns because of the sloped ceiling upstairs.
  20. Those are for the CF-2. The CF-3 & 4 take the K-63-N which I'm fortunate to own two of for my v1 CF-3's along with a "new in box" Neo 10" woofer.
  21. Someone bought them that night. Hell, I was going to make the drive and get them for the $40. I've wasted far more money on things through the years plus who knows....could have repurposed the cabinets if they were original. If not, those tops were going to come off. I could have always walked away, too.
  22. Wow....that room is about the size of our master bedroom closet (10 x 14).
  23. They couldn't sound much worse than those 2 different pairs of Altec Valencia's I had years ago.
  24. I came across this and thought.....wow. Not sure what else to say just yet. No affiliation but for $40, it's almost worth it for the cabinets...."if" they are true LS cabinets. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1006131763332511/ For posterity...
