You forgot speaker efficiency and current draw. If you fuse the speakers, have you ever looked at the resistance of a fuse? Discussing wire in this industry is a quasi-religious experience and has nothing to do with the science. More money is wasted there than any other part of the reproduction chain. End of story for me.
Yep. I was assuming the current draw would be the constant in this equation then length is the variable and the result is how much voltage drop is acceptable. The rest of the hype of one speaker wire over another is floobydust.
FuzzyDog,
Dual subs w/cherry veneeer? for <$1500. Sounds like used or DIY. I was able to come in at $1400 for my 2 used RSW-15s. But it was a 6 month process searching and waiting and going to pick them up. And at approx. 10 years old already who knows how long they'll last.
Yea, I don't have the horns yet. And when (if) I do I will have the Jub bass bins as well . With the ALK ES networks the crossover is at 400Hz. And signal is down 30 db an octave below that. So I think it will not damage the driver to try this on the eliptrac horn?
While reading another thread I learned a couple of these used drivers can be purchased at a reasonable price. So with the intention of someday having 402 horns to put them on I jumped and bought a pair. But for now I am wondering if I could put them on my eliptrac horns paired with KHorn bass bins(or Lascala bins)? So how low can you safely go with these drivers? I have ALK ES networks on both the KHorns and Lascala.
Around here, the permit's main function is to raise your property tax when they find out that you made improvements.
That's it function everywhere. F them. Sorry I had SO MANY bad experiences when I built my house. Jerk Offs.
Cool. I was going to ask if you were concerned about how music is going to sound. Because if that's important to you(as opposed to just background muzak) then the front speakers ARE important to you. Again just IMHO.
There are many concerns that enter into this equation not the least of which is how your wife or significant other wants the room to look. IMO the front three need to be "real" front firing speakers. The surrounds and rear surrounds can be in ceiling, again just my opinion. Since you are building you could also consider an IB sub in the ceiling.
BTW Welcome to the forum. Let the madness begin.
on the TE Connectivity (Tyco), and Panduit. Thomas and Betts is another excellent manufacture. Much preferred to the parts express branded products mentioned. Whatever you decide, a proper crimp is paramount.
Not going to argue quality, but the PE parts I called out are sure purdy.
