  1. Nice of you to donate your La Scalas to the High School Music Department way back then. You were a good influence on many young musicians, some of them probably becoming Klipsch fans too.
  2. The staff at Data-Bass.com has done some serious subwoofer testing. They tested the Gjallarhorn and the Othorn, but I did not see the THT name on their list. What would be the equivalent of the THT?
  3. Thanks to everyone for making me aware of these different subwoofers. The JTR Captivator 4000 ULF subwoofer has very impressive big specs. It is fun to read about products like those, as well as the efficient folded horn designs that jason str recommends. The very large size of these high output subs makes any purchase a heavy commitment, so it is good to learn from all your experienced opinions.
  4. HPower, That collection of cut wood pieces looks like a good amount of progress. I am always curious about how K-402s are fitted into home listening rooms, because reading the forum makes me think that I need some.
  5. @HPower, Can you bring us up to date on your system?
  6. I look forward to reading more about your speaker project. What is the crossover frequency of the B&K CS 500 connected to the 16 Ohm Faital HF200 ?
  7. I posted this picture on another thread earlier, but this also seems like a good place to share it.
  8. These simple banana plugs accept 12 gauge wire and the two set screws keep it tight.
  9. This picture of the orchestra, as seen and heard from the fifth row, represents the sound of my Klipschorns in an acoustically treated room, much better than I can desribe with 1000 carefully chosen words. Equally satisfying to me is that after listening to several super-fine, very, very expensive stereo systems at the CES 2017, my humble Klipsch speakers still impress me by provide an excellent, realistic listening experience.
  10. I have listened to the SB-16 and it sounded really good. The SVS exhibit also had a PB-16 display with a cutaway unit so you can see the internal construction of the heavy duty cabinet. Very impressive. These are very large cabinets that may not fit well in some listening rooms, as is the case with many high output subwoofers, but if you want serious bass and can find the space, go big from the start and avoid buying and selling a bunch of smaller compromise subwoofers.
  11. The three way version places the tweeter at about 72 inches above the floor. That may be a bit high in elevation during seated listening, so the two way configuration with the right high frequency driver is probably ideal for most home stereos.
  12. RSVRMAN, Congratulations on your Jubilee order and purchase of the EV DC-One. I use a DC-One for my Klipschorns. You can input all settings from the front panel buttons, but it is so much easier to connect a USB wire to your PC and type in the crossover setting numbers. The equalizer display mode allows you to point the cursor, click and drag the EQ profile of your desires, or you can type in the exact recommended numerical settings. My picture is showing an extreme profile for illustration purposes.
  13. California Black Walnut on the new Klipsch Forte III, as seen at CES 2017. The exhibit space partition was constructed of large thick slabs of solid hardwoods with the bark still intact. Nice how the Forte III was placed next to its matching tree slab.
  14. The RF-7 III has Tractrix flare bass reflex ports and an internal baffle creating two independent woofer chambers. Smooth powerful bass response.
  15. I listened to the Forte III at CES, one pair in an enclosed demo room, the other pair out in the open convention center with thousands of people chattering in the background. They sounded great in both environments, with the two different amps. All my thoughts about the Forte III are positive. As a bit of contrast, I also listened to dozens of other very nice loudspeakers that were set up in their individual luxury hotel suites with massive power amps and thousand dollar interconnect cables. Most sounded impressively fine, but many of those exotic speakers lost their finesse at moderately high sound pressure levels which led me to believe that they are short on dynamic range, and some of those speakers cost as much as a new car. So I think the Klipsch advantage is the great sound that gets better as you turn up the volume. The Forte III is a really good speaker at a good price.
  16. This pair is finished in California Black Walnut , and much better looking in person
  17. Yes that seems like a good reason for not pre-loading the miniDSP, I was also just thinking the software download may be their way to provide the user with the latest version right from the start. I should have stated that we turned up the amplifier gain, my point was that I did not hear any hiss.
  18. I listened to a system yesterday using the miniDSP 2x4 HD. The owner allowed me to pause the music and turn the volume control to max. I did NOT hear any hiss. Considering that and some of the above comments, the HD version is probably a better choice. I think I will buy one for my next Bi-amp or subwoofer project. I believe you also need to purchase for $10. and download the applicable software, is that correct?
  19. The Forte IIIs on display at CES were the Matte Black finish with the 70th Anniversary grill cloth, and the California Black Walnut with Lambswool Linen grills. Both were very attractive in person, and sounded really good.
