  1. Every year for Christmas my daughter gets a 16 GB (or bigger) thumb drive which contains all 5,000 photos of our family. She lives in another town, so even if a bomb wipes out my city, the most pictures she would miss out on would be those from the last year. +++ I did not know that a "dead" SSD could be recovered, that's good to know. I have taken dead HDD's apart and physically spun-up the platter to get it into a recoverable state. I think you caught a break, Earl.
  2. If you go to your local drum and bugle corps show, pick about 22 rows up, then higher rather than lower. Anywhere between the 45 yard liness will give you the best seat in the house, and between the 35's are still great. The drum corps idiom is features young people HS to college, with a world class 150 piece brass and percussion show. This is not "sounds of Sousa" anymore, the winning corps Carolina Crown last year played "Einstein in the Park, and Copeland's 3rd Symphony (Fanfare for the Common Man) and the runner-up Blue Devils from Concord, CA played Stravinski's Rite of Spring. http://www.dci.org/schedule/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjadtT78NsY
  3. Near the top of the screen, there is a thing called an "address bar." It usually starts with "www.blahblahblah.com" and some other words or numbers, with some slashes. Right-click in the address bar, it should turn BLUE. Right-click again and choose "Copy." Then go to your own post, right-click and choose "Paste." Hit <enter>. The link will now show up in your post with a color and an underline, and is automatically a hyper-link. The next time you find some nice Klipsch speakers in West Virginia for a hundred bucks, I expect you post a hyper-link for me, and then we'll call it even.
  4. I presume you are talking about his wife?
  5. Two things: Kudos to the mom for being right there, providing proper supervision to her son. I'm sure there is a good explanation why she ran away at the end, after checking on him. And two, I really could have done without the graphic video of that leg wound. Yuck. That cat really saved the day. Good for kitty.

Your link didn't work for me, it complained of "missing parameters."
  7. let me tell you why MOST people run them as small. 9 times out of 10 (so not always) your subwoofer will produce better smoother bass at 80hz and below. After much experimentation, I am also in the "run small, and cross over at 80 club." Our most used listening environment is in a med sized living room, with low volume. There is a legitimate reason for running them "large" and as far as I am concerned, it is totally personal preference. If you run "large" there is a setting now available to you called "double-bass" where both the sub AND the speakers are sent the lowest frequencies by the AVR. Some will like this kind of sound, some will not. I would compare it to running the LOUDNESS button on the old receivers. At higher volumes, I think double-bass is a bit more fuzzy. My SUBJECTIVE opinion is the double-bass option will give you fuller, more even bass throughout the room, and a more full sound if you listen to ultra-low volume, as I do since my wife HATES anything loud coming from the speakers. She likes to listen to TV at conversational level or below. We can get away with listenable LOW volume due to a 5.1 setup, since the center speaker makes sound very CLEAR for dialog when watching TV. Have fun experimenting. And make sure to include the wife, but understand that SHE will have the last word.
  8. "Personal" v "Private?" Not sure I see the difference. If it is "personal" that means those who I do not want to see it should not. "Private" means the same thing...a conversation between the sender and the recipient. In any event, it is neither personal nor private as the Terms make clear. I don't "know" you except on this forum, but am I correct that you are, or were a lawyer? I'm making that assumption based on the fact that you argue BOTH sides of the argument! And, you make your arguments very well, IMHO. +++ Oh, and if you aren't a lawyer, I apologize in advance for calling you a bad name. And if you want to discuss this further, feel free to send me a Private Message..., uh, Personal Message....., uh, oh just give me a call. +++ BTW, I am a therapist off the air, so if you are a lawyer, you can tell me all the ways I am wrong, and then I get to ask you how you feel about that... +++ (edit:) I know it is hard to always know the intent of people who post words without seeing their face, but know that I always post with a smile on my face. Or in this particular post, laughing at myself, because sometimes I crack myself up!
  9. Nice review, thanks. In your honor:
  10. Back on topic: Kevin, have you removed the top woofer yet to look inside? That might help you figure out what is going on with the tweeter. If nobody here has had that experience, try the Klipsch Owners Discussion Board on AVS. Maybe there is a somebody who has worked with that kind of problem before.
  11. There's no error, I saw what you posted Derrick, and I happen to have a very good Memory. So are you going to help Kevin out with his tweeter removal problem, or are you just going to sit around and listen to show tunes while this poor guy suffers? Kevin, I have no idea how to remove your tweeter, but all of here on this board feel your pain, blowing out two tweeters. Ouch! For Derrick:
  12. Is your living room and entertainment area two different places? I'm not sure if you are setting up one room, or two. Also, do you already know what you want, in terms of 5.1 or 7.1 sound? I have a 7.1 AVR, but I prefer a 5.1 setup. I think the consensus would be to timbre match the Center to the L/R's, but in my living room (lots of TV use) I have a pair of horn driven L/R's with a high quality but mis-matched MTM center with a dome tweeter. I love the quality of spoken voice that comes out of my center, so the mis-matched set worked for me, but I am in the minority on this. I have also seen posts from people who do NOT run a center, but use a 4.1 setup and let the AVR set up a phantom center. They swear by the phantom center as a great setup, but I think that is also a minority opinion. My point would be, you have some options and how your setup sounds in YOUR room and sounds good to YOUR ears is ultimately what you should go with.
  13. I like the tech on the 929, superb choice. You will have options! If you would, update us on how you eventually set things up and how it all sounds. I'm not sure but I think you could probably run 11 speakers, wife permitting. I have the 717 (7.2) but I am running in straight 5.1. I have tried bi-amping, and frankly I could not hear much difference so I switched back so I could get more familiar with how it sounds before switching again. Then I think I would like to try 5.1 with bi-amping, and run wides. I'm not interested in 7.1, but I lose the 7.1 if I run bi-amp so it's not a big deal to me. I have plenty of speakers, it's just a matter of swapping speakers in and out of the living room without affecting the WAF in a negative way.
  14. Yeah, that's pretty much why my wife won't let me go shopping by myself at Sam's club. Because I'm with you!
  15. I know nothing about screens and projectors, so I have a couple of newbie questions. If you upgrade the size of your screen, do you also need to upgrade your projector? I would think "yes." And two, are projectors/screens good for general TV watching? I would guess "no" for this one. I would think a good upgrade would be to 4K when prices drop and 4K content becomes available, and I would think that upgrading the screen to accommodate bigger/better/more speakers would also be a good reason to upgrade.

    Johnny Football....

The poster boy for troubled receivers was Randy Moss, and he is a native WV guy and played well for Marshall. No doubt he could catch and run, but he really had problems off the field starting in HS.

    Johnny Football....

Dallas gave Romo a $108 million extension last year. I doubt they could afford another #1 QB. Johnny FB is still a bit of a gamble based on his off-field behavior. Can you name the last QB with behavior problems who became a great player? I can't. +++ Steelers and San Diego fan here, but I follow Steelers much more closely.

With only a couple of modifications which MG bolded, I think Post #64 has the text of the original CL listing.

In any case, a guy called and took it all off my hands for $500, so I don't have it anymore. The guy said he only brought $500 with him instead of the $850 I was asking for, so that sounded like a great deal to me so I wouldn't have to pay someone to take these big ugly speakers away. The foolish man paid me with 500 copper pennies, which is worth more than 500 in paper money since paper money will soon have no value. I'm from Ohio and I kinda feel bad about taking advantage of him that way, but that's his fault, because what do West Virginian people know about Klipsch speakers anyway?

I think you've lost your mind! You've gone completely over to the crazy side! I'm predicting the guy you have apparently tormented will report your ad as spam, and it will get removed in 3 - 2 - 1 ... We shall see.

I totally agree! LOL! You managed to get a complete, random stranger so worked up that he felt obliged to post a RESPONSE on CL! I don't think you got any "real" West Virginian's to respond, because you didn't use the traditional West Virginia catch phrase we'all use at the end of every CL listing, even if it's a pile of parts laying on the floor in pieces; "works good."

YOU HAVE GOT TO CHECK THIS OUT! It's a response on my local Craigs List in Parkersburg, WV, to Mustang Guy's CL listing of some $850 Speakers using Earl's CL template. It's just too funny! http://parkersburg.craigslist.org/ele/4458187891.html Mr. Mustang Guy should have had the honor of bringing this the Klipsch Forumite community, but this couldn't wait, and besides, it's his fault for not being on-line here 24/7. +++ Should I respond to the attack post, telling the complainer that the speakers turned out to be LaScallas, that the guy didn't know what he had, his mother told him to get them out of the basement, and I got them for 100 bucks? Or one of you guys can do it, if it brings you pleasure.
  23. Buying speakers? Easy. Getting them past the wife? Now that takes some skill! Good job! (on both)
  24. Me too...I passed on wood shop...didnt even consider it...possibly one of my biggest regrets to this day... I took wood shop in 9th grade, the shop teacher made all the cuts. I'm not sure you missed out on much by not taking three months to learn how to nail and sand a bird house (or, since I am from West Virginia, a gun rack! )

You post those Jensen pics and you'll probably get a sale! I swear the ratio of car speakers and "dual subs" to home speakers in our local Craigs List is at least 50-1.
