  1. Current ride: The one before: And the one before that: Before that the list is over 40 vehicles long dating back to 74.
  2. Just poured my second Crown rocks. The Heresys are belting out Mr. Clapton's Reptile at a level that will probably get a knock on my door. You're right. Highball number 2 does indeed taste better with Klipsch speakers playing. Cheers!
  3. HMMM... 3592 miles round trip. 54 hours. I have access to a pickup truck. ~$360 in gas + meals + rooms. Oh... Wait a minute... I don't have an money. D@MN! They're beautiful. I deeply regret selling my Belles. Good luck with your sale.
  4. http://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/ele/5113658921.html No affiliation other than I wish I had the $$ to take a run at them.
  5. One box did both Cornscalas, a couple of pairs of Heresys, and I sold what was left over.
  6. When I built a pair of Cornscalas I lined the inside of the cabinets with two layers of this: http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-656/Paper-Cushioning/Cellulose-Wadding-Roll--12-x-175?keywords=S-656%20Cellulose%20Wadding%20Roll%2012%22%20x%20175%27 Worked very well and easy to work with.
  7. The purchase has not yet taken place. I'm still in research mode. From what I've been most drawn to the budget is shaping up to be in the $20 to $25K range for the entire system. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. That places the turntable budget at around $5K. At the moment a VPI Prime with an Ortofon 2M Black is at the top of the list turntable wise with the remainder of the $5K being spent on albums. I'm currently looking for a way to do an A-B-C comparison between La Scalas, Palladiums, and Reference speakers. I'm leaning toward La Scalas because I've previous owned a pair but I'd like to hear the other options. Also in the running is a pair of upper end Magnepans. I've owned several pairs of them and while their sound is VERY different from Klipsch speakers it's a sound that agrees with my ears. As I'm currently living in a fairly confined space my current speakers are a pair of Heresys. In my storage area is a pair of Magnepan SMGa. I swap them back and forth from time to time. Shoot me if you want but my ears like Maggies and Klipsch horns pretty much equally. I could easily live with either. Each changes the front end hardware as Klipsch like tubes and Maggies NEED power.
  8. Voted for your story. As of right now you're in the lead.
  9. Can't seem to get to the Klipsch website from here. Anybody else seeing the same?
  10. I'm getting closer to making a considerable investment in what I hope will be my LAST 2 channel system. Plans for that system include a pair of La Scalas. Having previously owned a pair and knowing that they don't go very low a subwoofer or a pair of them is also in the plans. The idea is this. Build a pair of tapped horn subwoofers working with the width and depth dimensions of the La Scalas. Build them such that they act as "risers" for the La Scalas. Yea... I'm sure someone here is going to suggest doing the LS ported riser mod. I tried that with the pair I owned. Yes, it did improve the bass output but I felt like it took something away from the sound of the La Scalas. The inspiraion for this idea is a friend of mine who DJs for a living. He has a pair of smaller Danley Labs tapped horn subwoofer and I've been amazed aout their bass output. So should I go back on my meds or what?
  11. Congrats!! Nice looking ride for sure. The Genesis Coupe is at the very top of my list of cars I want. It'll happen just as soon as I can afford one. When they first came out I almost bought one then changed my mind at the last minute. Good thing I did as 3 months later I was unemployed. Would have sucked to have had a BIG car payment and no job. Be sure and post when you get your first speeding ticket.
  12. As luck would have it I do know a thing or two about turntables. Over the the past 40+ years I've been dabbling in audio I've owned everything from a basic BSR changer to some pretty spendy Clear Audio kit. My concern is that a high end cartridge will reveal the weaknesses of a low end table and a low end cartridge will not be able to take advantage of the advantages of a high end table. Just as an FYI the $3K reference was simply a "talking point" and NOT my budget. At the moment I'm thinking a maxed out Uturn-Audio table and an Ortofon 2M blue or maybe a bronze.
  13. Soon I'll be putting together a new 2 channel system and I plan to include a turntable. Budget is not yet set but that hasn't stopped me from shopping. I'm pretty sure that there's a pair of Cornwalls or perhaps Cornscalas to be driven by some tube amplification in my future. The question is about "balance" when buying a turntable and cartridge. Specifically what should the cost ratio of the turntable / cartridge be? Many years ago I worked for a boutique audio reseller. Real high end stuff. During our sales training we were taught to advise customer to spend 50% of their budget on speakers and the rest on whatever equipment was going to be feeding the speakers. I'm wondering if there's a similar rule on turntable / cartridge cost. Assuming a turntable budget of $3000.00 and assuming that I won't need a phono preamp the options would be (1) a $1.5K table and a $1.5k cartridge, (2) a $1k cartridge and a $2K cartridge, (3) a $2k cartridge and a $1k table, or (4) a $500 table and cartridge combo and $2.5K worth of albums. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
  14. Does your email provider support IMAP? If so migrate your POP account to an IMAP account. Doing so means ALL of your email is stored on their servers and can be accessed by any authorized user from any PC. No "Exchange Server" required. This kind of stuff is what I do for a living. If you need more info feel free to PM me to hook up by phone.
  15. The last place I worked at used Rackspace. A little spendy but wicked fast and GREAT support.

  17. Poorly and I know it. I don't need another "test" to tell me just how poorly I hear. The fact that I DO hear so poorly is the reason I scaled back my primary music delivery system from a big $$ tube kit driving heavily modified La Scalas to a very pedestrian Pioneer receiver driving a pair of Heresys. If I can't hear the difference there's no reason to pay for the difference. I truly envy those who can hear well. There was a time when I did. That time is long passed.
  18. So I've been listening to my pseudo-heresys driven by a Pioneer AVR pretty much every night for about a month and I'm happy to report that I was completely wrong. I really expected the Pioneer AVR to totally suck sound wise when used as a 2-channel receiver. As it turns out it doesn't "suck" but rather it does what an amplifier should do: Take a small signal and turn it in to a big signal without any form of coloration. Color me surprised. No matter... I'm back to listening to my favorite tunes at a volume that pisses off my neighbors. They can just get the #$% over it. I really need one of those "pissing off the neighbors since..." T-Shirts.
  19. Missed me by a thousand miles or more but I'm not surprised. It placed me in the mid-west between Denver CO and Wichita KS. Truth is I'm in Florida but spent the first 15 years of my life (where I learned to talk) in Ohio. I suspect I have an unusual "dialect" being a melding of northern and southern. There are some things that I pronounce distinctly southern and some things that I pronounce distinctly northern. Fun little test though.
  20. They are 1N3966 Diodes. Available at a few places. Here's some NOS ones on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTOROLA-1N3996-10M5-1AZ10-ZENER-DIODE-New-Old-Stock-/310801587181
  21. Be sure to pick up a chimney charcoal starter. They work great with lump charcoal. I too prefer to cook over coals. But since most of my outdoor cooking is for just me the convenience of a small gas grill is hard to ignore. If I'm grilling for a group I break out the charcoal gear.
  22. Nothing to add, just moving this thread back to page one.
  23. I didn't know they had a "day" but as it turns out I had one for breakfast this morning. It was stuffed with a fried egg, a slab of sausage and a slice of sharp cheddar cheese. Yummy!!!
  24. Airfare from Orlando to Cleveland round trip ain't too bad if booked early enough. I'm in assuming everything comes together early enough for me to book a cheep flight. Klipsch community or not I've wanted to visit the R&R Hal of Fame for a long time now.
