  1. You may want to look at Great Plains audio.... Then look into what Jean Hiraga did at the Munich Hi End show... Then look at Serious Stereos, RMAF reviews... Lots of good info and reading.... All old or new speakers.....
  2. Great thread looking forward to it. Still cant understand how some builders prefer the horn on top of the cab with 2 15"s below placed vertically (maybe ease of construction)? Some say its best to split the woofers and place the horn between the two, others like Jbl in their newest TOTL Everest project place them horizontally with the horns on top....
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But WAIT, I am the BONEHEAD, I didn't get JUBILEES sooner.......THANKS!!!! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. lots of great Bach out there.....

    ALTECS!

Awesome find!!! I love Altecs even if they are a pain in the *** to get right. I have been an Altec fan for a long time, it took Jubilees to tear me away from them. I still have 3 pair and still miss them for some recordings.... Someone go get some of this stuff....
  6. Great video Maynard, I have seen what your wife has seen at some of the schools where I live. The way some eat today is truly sad...... Two of my sisters step grand kids eat horrible food. One is a very fine goaltender the other very good runner. Last week the boy shattered his collarbone sledding and just landed on the ground (don't know how you do this) his sister in the same week found out she has a compression fracture in her back, and doesn't know how it happened...
  7. The Marantz 8B is legendary, I have what some consider the "poor man's version" the Pilot sa 260 with the 210 preamp. I have tried dozens of combos of well regarded SS and nothing has touched it. I have only used it on model 19's and not khorns, but I am sure it would be a great fit....
  8. And our EARS. As we (I) age I notice that one of my ears has slightly better hearing than the other. All my systems have either separate gain controls for either channel or a balance control. I can move the sound stage right where I want it. Always a good idea to be careful with your car windows when they are open, often people have damage to one or their other ears, depending on which side of the pond you drive on.
  9. Maynard is the man!!!! one of kindest, most generous people, I have ever met, but, I never have in person. I hope to someday!!!
  10. Holy cow that thing is right as rain, find its balance point, looking at the crown and the trunk, decide where you want it to drop, notch it, and then let loose from the opposite side, with one of your bigger saws.... Start running when I hear that CRACK..... Wait I am WRONG, I am sure your FIRE PIT or BURN PILE, can handle that STUMP....and there is no digging and covering up needed... GREAT WORK COYTEE!!!!!!
  11. Thanks Mustang Guy!!!!! They look pretty good!!
  12. Does anyone have these, and are they as good or the same as the older E models?
  13. I would take that bet!!!!
  14. Great explanation, can these types of parameters be found in medical isolation transformers? My friend keeps wanting to cut hole in my floor and run a dedicated circuit from my circuit panel and then run a medical transformer that weights about 80 pounds......
  15. For those who haven't heard M19's, they are huge STUDIO MONITORS, and are flatter then Khorns and don't have that pleasant Klipsch sound......get the right recordings and you may hear some things you have never heard before, they are way too picky for most listeners, and your upstream has to very good and your space. Also they need to have a bunch of corrections to the crossovers with bad r&d, mixing al with steel, and new caps as they have aged. These are not smooth speakers, they are in your face, how did the sound engineer do his work, let me know what he or she heard whilst mixing, and where they were taking the mixing, if they get it right they are right...
  16. I don't know if this will work, because I don't know what compound was used on the accordion edges of Klipsch speakers of this type, but with Altecs people balance the goo, that resides there, and sometimes puddles in places, with acetone and the right stiffness brush. I think acetone would kill mold?
  17. I'm using a K-402 with a K-69-A presently. I might switch to another compression driver if budget allows: I'm looking at using a TAD TD-4002 or, even more interesting, a bi-amped dual-diaphragm BMS 4592ND (i.e., the full-range version). Those last two types are premium compression drivers that have extremely clean HF performance. Whatever happens, I can recommend the K-69-A (or similar P.Audio BM-D75 Series II driver at about $170US) as solid performers. The B&C DE750 is also a nice driver (about $300US) - which I believe is also available on a K-402 assembly w/stand as an option--it's also been called a "K-69". Note however that I'm not disappointed in the K-69-A at all. In fact, I'm amazed at how well everything sounds relative to when I used the K-69-As in my Jubs. Chris Chris if you want to borrow my 4002's you are welcome.... you are just moving progress forward, a great thing! The BMS driver I have heard, it can be spooky, yet was soft in the two systems I heard, but I like it a little hot in some areas of the spectrum, and it could have used some eq for my tastes. I like piano to sound like a piano, and strings to sound like strings.... then I look for recordings that sound balanced and good with my space, system and lowly gear... There is nothing like a point source speaker...
  18. Interesting read on the Diyaudio forum under "Another Unity Horn" . Tom Danley has some fascinating things he talks about. On page 9 he discusses levitating things with high spls.
  19. A shame about the price change, I had hoped Chris was going to start a cottage industry cutting into k 402's and doing exotic things to them. I know I would be first in line.
  20. I think we need a top ten list for audio trolls, we all know who's number one, but 2-10 that's the tough questions..
  21. Catching Bonefish here in the Bahamas...... Nice fish Cut, now show us some more fish!!! I am sure the fish thread in the "lounge" needs some more great catches.....
  22. I always thought it was sad over the years they sold less and less diy electrical stuff. In Minnesota they have this store called the axeman which is a surplus supply, they have millions of electric parts sorted in bins, its so insane you get dizzy walking the isles, my max is about ten minutes before I get uncomfortable. I have watched people collect parts for tube amps based on the tubes they have in stock, which is usually a few thousand.
  23. Has this 285 price been confirmed? I thought they cost much more than that...
