  1. Point source! Set up right, I have never heard a speaker resolve so much info in a medium size room which most use for 2 channel...... If you want to hear a lot more, on a good recording? Try a pair, it takes work, but I must agree with stereophile in their article "five speakers you should hear before you die" 604s are on their list and they should be, if you want to hear what was recorded... Sadly they are not plug and play, they take a very careful thoughtful execution,,,,
  2. No list is complete without Altec 604's and sadly bose 901's...... A well put together 604 system will make Cornwalls sound shabby...
  3. You lost me at DR......? Dre.................
  4. I would try anything Ortofon, my lowly px3 with one, destroyed a very carefully set up VPI with a much more expensive cart at 1 tenth the price... same speakers twice his place and mine.....
  5. Sadly the title of this thread is commonplace in more important places and faux ideals....wait or is it everywhere?
  6. The ones I spoke of you could audition, but I was thinking more DIY and a little research for you, because these are out of your price range, but can be made for much less. Jean Hiraga's sell for around 22k, Serious Stereos sell for around 18K, there is another company called Exemplar Audio that uses the same driver and they are around 34k.From what i have read, they all received some very good reviews at high end shows. Lots of info on these drivers. Some love them, some hate them, with good recordings they are very special when set up properly which is very difficult. I know a guy who builds recording studios and home studios who uses these often with some very high profile clients, including execs from Sony and some major acts.
  7. A pair of Altec 604 8Gs, look up Jean Hiraga and Serious Stereos abilities with these types of drivers.....and a saw an iron

    What I Got Today!

Those are very nice amps, heard them in a bi amped system on the horns and then the bass bins, in an active, very well dialed in system, full wall and ceiling treatments, with some JBL M9500s vs some Spectron amps that were modded. The spectrons were better on bass but couldn't touch the atsahs on the mid-highs. With the Jubs it might be an incredible recipe being an all horn system.
  9. 3 or 4 shots of wheat grass, then make some juice 1/2 head of kale, 6 cups of spinach, swiss chard, 5 carrots, 5 green apples.....it will change your chemistry...

    Car Thread

Not much of a car guy but I like to go fast sometimes.... Sad story, was at a guys shop yesterday giving a guy a ride home that works for me sometimes, the owner of the "shop" a wealthy gent, likes to buy pre 1920 cars and rip them apart and copy the parts..... there was a 1905 Mercedes, one of only 2 known Bugattis, another very early Mercedes, a 1909 Alpha, a very early Fiat, a nice Rolls, early engines of all types and parts everywhere.... this was hoarding at an extreme for what purpose I don't know.... The smell of Rustoleum and the sight of dollar store brushes confused me. The owner is a good guy but a little eccentric I would say. What makes the story sad is I dont think these cars will ever be put back together...
  11. It amazes that La scalas and Jubs could be compared. My model 19s other then some upper bass notes, were more well rounded then the La scalas and produced a lot more micro details and had more balance. The difference between Model 19s and the jubs...... I wouldn't considering comparing them.......

    Hi Fi... Fo Fum

Awesome isn't a word, expletive enough, I' am laughing so hard....... nice find!
  13. Last I heard there are over 100000 places that accept bitcoin, and in CA they even have some form of ATMs.
  14. You guys should try to buy a preprogrammed dx 38 with the factory settings. With either the k69 settings or the Tad settings, I don't hear the problems you seem to be experiencing.
  15. Thanks guys, sorry for the soap opera! My friend must be confused....
  16. Heard through a friend that someone's new jubs 402s have mump,s and ideas or pictures? very curious,,,,,,
  17. I don't know about this model but some of the jvc amps are real sleepers, I had an axr 551 and it walked over many a amp, preamp combo, some costing used at least 20 times the cost. I bought two top of the line JVCs 2 channel amps that were over 1500$ in the early 90s and the axr 551 sounded much crisper and cleaner. One of the most fun things about this hobby is finding synergy that works for your ears.
  18. Thanks for the great info guys! I truly appreciate it!!!
  19. Wondering what you guys and gals will think will happen. A friend wants to A/B his Altec MRII 594 horn vs the K 402 on my Jub type bins, and then take some measurements. He seems to think the Altec horn is better. I have never heard the 594 but have heard the 394 and it was a nice sounding horn but seemed not to image very well and didn't extend as high as some horns I have heard.
  20. Heard some Altec A7s outside that were using millivolts, and it was loud enough,,,,
  21. I think I am with Chris on this one, jubs sound very good on even modest equipment as long as they have very little distortion, and the amps are quiet and there is good synergy. Some of my other 2 channels systems that I have, and have had, its been a struggle to find amps that would bring out the speakers best sound. Finding amps for my Model 19s was a task to say the least. Once I found what worked it was very good. Funny story, went to the local HIFI store, brought some favorite recordings, listened to some B&W 802s with some TOTL Mac gear and Electrocompaniet gear and it wasn't even close the M19s blew them away in most areas, if I use 10 factors analyze a system, the Altecs would have one 8 and I might be giving to much credit to their "high end " system. My wife and I were fairly confused, funny thing is we brought 3 disks they had 2 of them to demo.
  22. This was the best add for the Klipsch Jubilees in a long time. A copy cat getting rave reviews against some of the worlds best speakers, (and we have heard this before) and they are selling them for 95K. This opens a small door for Klipsch to make a speaker that can compete with some of the best, but needs to look like some of the best, and I am sure they can do it for a fraction of the cost..... I have heard some of JBLs best that sell for much more then Jubs its a just a matter of taste at this point.....
  23. Jerry thanks for joining!!! stick around!!! What a wild way to make a horn bell!!! If each speaker weights roughly 300 pounds per the 6 moons published 136kgs each figure, and you are saying they are 4" thick in some parts in the base bin, and 3" in other places I would think they would weight much more than 300 pounds. My Jub clones bins use 12 inch drivers and are expanded to accommodate 1.5" panels in some areas and weight almost 250 pounds each... something seems off here...
