  1. If the price is right, it could be worth it. I am just now completing a Heresy cabinet rebuild and I used the front and back boards. they came out fairly easy with minimal damage. I see no reason why you couldn't remove rotate and reinstall. Fairly easy. Good luck.
  2. That's when I realized, we don't watch the same movies!
  3. Sancho, what are you up to? You have revived two threads for horn loaded subwoofers. I just ordered a couple woofers to build a couple of the Anarchy Tapped Horn subs earlier today. Must be something in the air. Just finishing up a rebuild on a pair of old Heresey's to clear the deck for the sub builds.
  4. Best performance I saw live was Marshall Tucker w/ Charlie Daniels at the Mississippi River Festival @ SIUE (Edwardsville IL) doing 24 Hours at a Time. Not sure how great it actually was, but it floored me at the time. (1979 ish) Thanks for the Heart video doing Stairway to Heaven, never saw if before and it was excellent. As for video live performances, this one stood out to me last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toSWIFioFmw Bruno Mars doing a tribute to Amy Winehouse.
  5. make something "idiot proof" and they build a better idiot!
  6. Allman Brothers Dave Mathews Band Allman Brothers Marshall Tucker Band Atlanta Rhythm Section Marshall Tucker Boston Pavlov's Dog Santana Stevie Ray Vaughn Bonnie Raitt Mamma's Pride Boston Crap, this is hard! Better hit "Post" before I drive myself crazy!
  7. PE has a Dayton chip amp for under $30. it can run off a few double A's. It is plenty of power to see if something is seriously wrong. I have brought it with me a couple of times and tested speakers. I use it in my office with a pair of KSB 1.1's when not taking it on the road (come with an cord also)
  8. Sold a pair and got to keep a pair plus musicook got a new pair! Win / win / win! That was a great deal. They are almost identical to mine. I didn't get quite as good a deal, but don't regret taking the plunge at all. Drove 6 hours each way to get them too. Let the debates begin as to how to upgrade. I switched my AB crossover to the 4500hz model from Bob Crites along with the tweeter and there was a major improvement. Get to know them first so you appreciate the upgrade. Great score, glad it worked out for everyone.
  9. Matthews, did you ever hear back from him?
  10. The 15" dayton series II woofer has a spl of 91 db the Dayton PA 380 that he posted has an SPL of 96? why would you say his choice would not keep up and then suggest a woofer that is 5 db's down from his choice? Also the series II woofer is only good to 1000 hz where the PA 380 is good to 3500hz? I'm not nearly as crazy as you may think. He edited his original post. Originally he listed the link to the Dayton 15" Classic which has a lower spl than the pro model that he switched to after my post. One of the dangers of letting posts be edited. Compared to the classic, the series II is a little more sensitive and handles more power and covers the frequency range he was originally looking for. I have used both (12" not 15) and the series II has much more punch. The classic is still a great value.
  11. if you get better info, let me the location and I could possibly stop by for a first hand look/listen for you. I saw this add and thought about your quest for these, but like wvu80 was skeptical due to lack of actual photos and information. There was also no specific location given. I'll help if I can. Not sure why you would go to KLF30 from LaScala, but.......
  12. I would save the extra $100 and stick with the 300w. You don't want to invest too much in a free sub. the extra 200w would only net you out an additional 2 db +/-. The 300 performs very well. I have used it and liked it very much.
  13. If interested in the R115SW, Matthews has a pair for sale in the garage sale section. He has two, might divide, check it out!
  14. I have used most of these components or a similar one by the same manufacturer. All should perform well. My first concern is that the woofer you chose will probably not keep up with your horn. It is a very good woofer for it's price point but will not put out the db's that horn will. If you want to stick with Dayton the series II, or their professional version both will give you better output. Looks like a fun project. Others with more experience will chime in with more suggestions, I'm sure. Good luck with the project.

    Ask Sancho

Dear Sancho, If Momma Cass had given her ham sandwich to Karen Carpenter, would they both be alive today?
  16. Great craftsmanship. These will become an heirloom I am sure. How do you plan to seal off the inside of this cabinet? I am sure when you seal the wood on the exterior it will fill any gaps in the dovetails, but you may want to do some extra work on the interior to keep these bad boys from letting out too much air. Heresy's were never totally air tight or acoustic suspension design but you don't want to have it leaking in too many areas. A good dampening on the inside may also help deaden the reaction of this hard wood. Again, very nicely done.
  17. the house was built during the depression so not a lot of frills, but the fireplace was different for sure. I rarely notice the colors except in photos. Maybe its because I have been here for going on 27 years now. Solid brick home built to last.
  18. I'm sure I will be pleased, I am already "fairly" pleased with the bass produced by the Belle's now. I will do a build thread when I start. I pretty much hijacked this one. Thanks
  19. I do not know Tim and am very afraid to meet him!
  20. Can't speak for everyone, but that's what I am looking for. I will build two to start. I will use a cnc router so additional units will be ez after I set up the file. Rockhound has basically the system I envision in his "LaScalla-LaScalla II or Belles? What's next?" thread. He ended up with the LaScalla II (prototypes) and has two Anarchy 25hz tapped horns with them. Change the Scalla's to Belle's, lay the tapped subs on their side, put the Belle's on top of them and you have what I planned. thanks.
  21. thanks, I have seen two of these. I need to do some homework. there has been a fairly thorough thread on the Anarchy 25 hz design. I just thought the 6 1/2 would not keep up and was looking for something "next size up". Although I am a big fan of the Tang Band 6.5 as I have used it several times in boomboxes.
  22. this was the one I referred to. I have not researched this yet, just used for discussion.
  23. There are many tapped horn designs available. One quick search for drawings shows a design that has the cabinet @ 37.56" tall by 30.75" deep by 13" wide (for 12 inch subwoofer). This cabinet laid on its side would be 37.56" wide x 30.75" deep and 13" tall. A good base for a Belle that is 30" w x 19" deep. Do this for both speakers and you would have a great amount of added bass. I was not dead set on a 12" subwoofer version, but those were the first plans I found. I could not read the specs on the Anarchy smaller version without going inside for my glasses! I guess I'm just stubborn. I have a pair a Heresey's in another room that I can add the sub to if it doesn't work out. I've seen some very positive reviews of these little subs and just want to give it a shot.
  24. You lost me. Neither the OP or myself are looking for reflex vent mod. We are looking to set our mains on top of a horn loaded sub. He stated he had tried a reflex vent mod and wanted to go a different direction. Am I confused?
