  1. It’s only 365 miles one way from my doorstep, a mere 90 miles more than my longest speaker roadtrip to date. I’ve done nine hours return just stopping for gas and a coffee (and coffee “recycling”). I’m up to it. BUT it crosses an international border and that is “messed up” right now. You couldn’t build a pair of these for the asking price.
  2. Something that usually (always) works for me is to remove all the screws from the panel and then insert a couple of them in the corners and angle them so they catch the panel, then use them as levers to pull the panel off. As if the side without the screws was hinged. Works on the Heresy and Cornwalls with the removable backs nicely too.
  3. @Woofers and Tweeters, congratulations on your astute purchase. My 17 year old guitar playin’ son prefers these over the Chorus 2s and La Scalas.
  4. @pcbiz, have you tried the ALK Universals in your Chorus 2s?
  5. ^^^^ What he said! I F’d up the tops on a black pair of La Scalas with these grip liners. You should have heard the gasp I let out when I realized what I had done... It eventually buffed out with Antique Oil. Not sure how lucky I would have been on a natural wood finish.
  6. ...make sure you have a pillow on your lap when you hook them up to soften the blow when your jaw drops
  7. Thanks for the reply, that is the sort of thing I was referring to as “tiny little accessories”, lol. It is certainly inexpensive. Good point about WIFI, now I’m wondering about that too?
  8. What component (streamer?) does everyone use to connect a bluetooth source to their preamp? For example, phone > ? > preamp. I have seen tiny little accessories for small change and components that match my system for more than I have paid for any single item in the stack so far. The one that caught my eye, a NAD C658 had a DAC in it as well, but also went for 2 large and I don’t need a preamp. I am thinking by now there are probably some good deals on used gear but I have no idea what to start looking for. Thanks, as always, for any input on this.
  9. My kids are taught about this in school. Humbling to be sure.
  10. Just give me the damn “Predator” mask already... A little button for extra oxygen when I’m fatigued. Anti fog lens. Thermal imaging and night vision. Maybe another button for a shot of nitrous oxide (no smoking sign flashes) when I turn on the news...
  11. Now add fused terminal plate to the list of things I have never seen on a Cornwall 1.
  12. Vincent, you appear to have some VERY unique speakers, if they are stock. I have never seen a factory K-43 OR the side handles OR that front grille on a pair of Cornwalls. The very rare CP-1 came with a K-44 and round ports.
  13. ...yup, gotta be the final force in the great reset trifecta, the aliens. That’s why we all have little stylized space rockets beside our profile. We’re all Starship Troopers!
  14. For what it’s worth... I had read all of the horror stories about AL (and their kindred AK and AB) crossovers. Had such a great impact on me I made sure my first pair of La Scalas did NOT have that crossover. Even went so far as to snag a deal on a pair of A/4500 crossovers and CT-120 tweeters BEFORE even owning a pair of La Scalas in anticipation of having to swap ‘em out. My first pair had AL-3 crossovers. Sounded so nice to my untrained ears I NEVER even tried the A/4500s or CT-120 tweeters. Sold the LS with the AL-3s when I got a pair of LSI Splits with AL crossovers. But not before doing a little head to head for a few weeks. Honestly, the AL crossover did not make me run to my desk with my ears on fire to replace them with the Crites mods I had waiting in a box for just such an emergency. The AL accoutred La Scalas were nothing to sneeze at.
  15. Second dose of Pfizer on July 31. Really sore shoulder for a couple days, but I could feel the needle being pulled out so I knew the muscle would ache. NOTHING else. ...except, I am starting to believe everything on mainstream media!
  16. Welcome to the forum, I think you will find just about any Klipsch will scratch that itch. Some will just leave a bigger smile on your face. 500 bucks should get you a pair of used Heresys, the gateway drug to Klipsch. If you are really lucky you might find a pair of Tangent 400/500/4000 or even 5000 for less money. Keep your eyes on the for sale ads in your area and chime in with whatever you find. Lots of experience on here.
  17. @rickstersas, not sure how far along the Klipsch journey you have gotten, so there are some fundamentals to clear up. Belles are “horn loaded” bass and Heresys are “direct radiating” bass. The two are different in their design and resultant sonic presentation. EVERYTHING about the two speakers has been engineered to take the sum total of ALL of the parts and cabinets into account. Swapping Heresy parts into a Belle will produce sound, but it will fall far below it’s awesome potential (it will sound like crap). Horn loaded bass is fast and punchy and clean. Big dual woofer direct radiating speakers can do it too. As mentioned a 12” woofer would be a fail in this bass bin. Also as mentioned, if starting from scratch the Kappa 15C or Crites 15” woofer would work nicely. Again, as mentioned, going 2-way with an active crossover would be the cat’s pyjamas if just starting fresh. If not for the ability to custom tailor EVERYTHING about the driver’s response, the price of new crossovers and components has leapt off the table recently. As an aside, whatever you wind up with will skip a valence with the addition of a good subwoofer. It is important to note that due to the physics of folded horn bass bins they do not play as low say your KG 4.2s (?). Off the cuff, you are probably looking at a minimum of a grand for a 3-way with a passive crossover if you get lucky in the used market. You could drop all the guts of a La Scala in them if you don’t mind the mid horn sticking out the rear a couple inches. The K-500 that belongs in the Belle seems to be a rare bird.
  18. How far is Cinnci from Connecticut? @Jvitti1970 has what your after. Looks like a heck of a road trip though, even for me and I can drive most of the day without even turning on the radio. The bass from the K-48 in the Chorus lineup responds favourably to more watts, and a little low end EQ staying tight and clean.
  19. I have used the marker below with outstanding results on woofers, passives and dust caps. I also pretty much refinished the veneer on a pair of black Chorus 2s with this marker and some Antique Oil rubbed in. It’s what I had lying around and passed the “test in an inconspicuous area first” with flying colours.
  20. This forum is filled with the accounts of others that share that experience. Put another way, you get what you pay for. For an analogue solution I have noticed the Schiit Loki get favourable reviews.
